There might be a few things you aren't getting...

From the MXA article:

A model unprecedented in supercross yet utilized amongst the majority of thriving sports leagues and motorsports series around the world, WSX features an exclusive team ownership structure that allows each team to increase its value over time, while also enabling a host of commercial opportunities on global and regional levels for international and local events. This unique model, combined with SX Global’s allocation of $50 million specifically for team and rider support over the Championship’s first five years, has driven widespread interest for the coveted 10-team allotment, as evidenced by more than 40 ownership applications submitted from suitors across the globe.

What am I not getting? Where does it say they paid? They always wanted a limited amount of teams. The topic in question is if those 10 teams paid to be one of the teams selected. All I see, even in your quote, is where it says 50 millions for teams and rider payouts. Let me know what I missed. Maybe I’m wrong but your quote doesn’t even remotely prove the teams paid.

"...pay me a million for startup..."

I don't think the intent was to pay anyone a sum for a team "to get started".

I believe the "support" they're alluding to is for certain expenses like shipping and team/rider payouts thru-out the season(s).

Oh...and...

How much of that $50 Million ever existed and/or where it went...? That's another question.

I’m not sure what you are debating tbh. I honestly can’t tell. Do you think teams paid the promoters to be one of the ten teams or not?  I think the promoters paid the teams to race the series. Earlier posters were saying the teams paid the promoters to be a part of the series. It seems like you are agreeing with me.

Because they're sick of their world championship being a feeder system for the US national series'?

I don't think they'll do it but if they want to stem the tide they might want to consider it.

Infront is in to make money, not lose boatloads of it at every single race.

"How would it make sense to say pay me a million for startup..."

I'm saying that's not what happened.

Paying the teams for expenses and attending/performing at races was the model that I understood...and most of that was after the fact.

So, yes, I think we agree on the basics...but, I don't recall Adam ever offering-up "start up" money🤣

Not one person in this industry should be shocked.

With how they were operating every single year, cancelling events, paying riders just to show up and also paying them purse money, CARDBOARD TUFF BLOCKS..., New owner after new owner, trying to find money, trying to add venues...

It was a joke from day 1.

With all that money FIM just made in Ernee, even THEY didn't want to save it...

Can you explain how you think FIM specifically made money from MXoN 🤦

The FIM isn't going to let the world championship moniker sit idle for long. Someone will pay the fee and start a new world supercross championship, just like SX Global did after Feld punted the FIM. Maybe Infront, which would potentially pose a much bigger threat.

A well organized FIM supercross world championship that gives MXGP riders a reason to stay with their European teams and potentially drains assets from the US series'.

That appears to be the goal and a challenge. Maybe it's recency bias but Viale/Prado/Coenen/Davies and many others I'm too lazy to type seem to want to come to the US no matter what - more than ever. US Supercross for all it's faults appears to be the holy grail for worldwide moto.

Stoking the WSX fire with premium paid appearances by Kenny/Eli/Deegan only works if it attracts continued good riders and fans.

I do miss the Lacky/Guerra/LaPorte/Moore/Healey/Liles/Trampas Parker/Donny Schmit days of Americans going to Europe for a season or more.

That’s what I’m saying too. I’m saying that didn’t happen. The guy said the teams paid wsx start up money(for lack of a better phrase) In that quote I was saying why would wsx tell the teams to pay start up money and then turn around and offer the confirmed money for transportation, salary, exc.

What a fiasco, what a shame. When this deal started I had high hopes, a low stress off season indoor race series with international venues, like the old TransAm almost, but indoors. Maybe toned down for a couple rounds to get MXGP riders interested. I wonder why the organizers can not just align existing off season supercrosses to make a championship? At least start that way? Shame.

A lawsuit is one thing.
Winning is another thing.
Collecting is another, another thing...amongst I'm sure, other things.

Wait, so you think they were just giving out the team licenses for free? Just any team that wanted a Crack at it?

They created 10 licenses for exclusivity. Team buys a license, they have guaranteed spots. Then they have the option to sell the license, hence the 'investment'.

They're active everywhere, they just get dunked on harder in arenas where it's almost impossible to make money IE moto/motorsports in general

My wife asked me last night why we didn't have tickets to the GC round, I sighted this very concern. Glad I kept my money in my pocket, sad to see some of you have been ripped off. Hopefully AUS championship can grab some of the WSX industry investment & riders or AME can jump in and buy the series for pennies on the dollar.

I don't think it has been asked yet, but assuming they will be refunding those of us who purchased the streaming package for this series?

Where does it say they purchased them? You are making an assumption. I think they reviewed the applicants and provided the top 10 applicants a spot. That’s an assumption by me just as them having to pay is an assumption by you. Maybe they did pay I just haven’t seen anything that’s explicitly said so nor has anyone provided anything that does.

I can't imagine how much planning,  money and effort it goes into planning these races. But im often amazed how little insight goes into the thought process. The lack of top level riders in this series plus the travel made it impossible to succeed.. The same with arenacross and how Mike Kidd started the series in Texas only and grew it into something bigger. Yet it's current status has believing it will soon be gone as well.

They won’t get any ama supercross riders if infront the promoters of mxgp take over because they refuse to pay any start or purse money to riders in mxgp so I can’t see any ama sx riders wanting to do that . Only reason Webb, Roczen , Tomac and Deegan raced a wsx race was because they (WSX) paid  each of them over a million I heard per race . Infront won’t pay a dime to any rider if they took over .

Only way get your money back from a company that goes bankrupt is put a lien on them and take them to court . But all the bigger company’s that are owed money get any if any left befor the little guy . You won’t be seeing a refund sorry but that’s the world we live in

If what they are claiming is true, it would seem obvious that the teams purchased their licenses, sort of like the NASCAR charters. Probably for pennies on the dollar compared to NASCAR, of course, but when they say that the teams stake can grow in value, it certainly implies that they would own something of value (making their initial license an ‘investment’ of sorts).

I don’t think that the cover charge was $1M or more, but stranger things have happened!
