Is MXoN 90% profit for the promoter? Expenses must be pretty limited without a purse. I have no clue how many people actually watch it, but presumably it's broadcast worldwide. Surely there should be enough money to pay a decent purse.
Because everyone else there raced each other all year. The event is useless without the US riders. It's the only chance we get to see the best including the US
Back in the day before social media people had to show up and show out , and they wanted to!
The “ Pride” aspect is completely gone. Maybe if it was every 2 or 4 years it would be more special.
Okay..this is an honest question. Does anyone not think this paid in the end in sponsor/fan $ in a pretty big way?
The Shop
Luxon 4-Post Bar Mounts

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
I saw DV post saying “Julien Beaumer should race for France”. lol
This is the least bit surprising. Go reel ‘em in Kitchen, show them that talent on the world stage
Wrong…maybe 5-10 years ago but not now. Agree they should get paid but the race goes on without the US as it has done before. I would venture to guess the Coonens and other Euros are as big if not a bigger draw than anyone the US is going to send. All the top teams should be getting paid, they are bringing the spectators in.
Marchbanks can't go because Kawasaki sees zero value in this event
Actually Fact is - he is worth it and everyone knows this. Like it or not he is the number one draw in mx right now…his social media alone is millions more than the fastest rider ever (Jett) and his brother combined..no one even close to his level of popularity..(realize this hurts feeling in here).
Whatever he would get paid brings huge ROI
This squabbling every year is pathetic. The US supposedly has the biggest moto industry in the world, yet it seems nobody is willing to facilitate getting to the biggest internationa race.
Meanwhile small countries attend every year without any chance of ever winning. How do they do it? Fund raising that starts nearly 12 months in advance. It's not like the event is sprung on anyone without notice.
In the absence of any other willing parties, the AMA should be stepping up.
One, why did Matthes say it was a “rumor” that Deegan is asking for bonus money. Can a journalist get someone on the phone and on the record? Sheesh…
Two, this race is all about pride.Either you wanna step up and prove you’re the baddest mofo on the planet, or you stay the fuck at home. Nobody owes you jack for going. If your country wants to help with expenses, cool. If not, also cool. But expecting to get paid to “represent your country?” That’s some grifter shit that has nothing to do with the spirit of this event. IMHO.
If they are sponsors, is the athlete then not already getting paid by them or benefit of the sponsors already??
If febvre is going then it’s only the US side of Kawi right? Or is it KHI? I only heard about it but never read anything substantial about it.
Typical home schooled rich kid thinks everyone owes him something
Well Deegs did paint himself
It's stuff like this that makes me roll my eyes every time someone tries to argue that Brian is a savvy businessman and self promoter just because they have money.
You will never convince me they wouldn't have a bigger fan base and more money if they weren't doing douchey stuff all the time. They aren't doing this stuff because they're playing some 4D chess self promotion game, they're doing it because this is who they are and they can't help it.
Id offer him a win bonus.
Deegs knows he wont win. Too much talent and more so, a lot of pride out there from other riders.
Remember when Deegan couldn't go to MXON because "star wanted money"? Well observations said star hasn't asked this before if I'm reading it correctly
Pit Row
Didn’t know so many in here are willing to work for free.
Should they also fund the other top 10 teams to go as well?
I posted a similar opinion on here before. They are using the bad boy dgaf image, which proved successful for deegan during his FMX stint. But he needed Travis, whereas travis did not need him to be (even more) successful.
We don't know their deals, and definitely not their deals for each year. They may or may not have been paid for racing MXDN.
Is Deegan on some sort of hourly wage?
I suppose he’s free to ask to be paid. He’s also free to not go.
Eli had his wife and mom hawking merch morning till night all weekend at MXoN last year. I know this because I bought some. He def made enough money to cover all his expenses.
He also raised money for charity too. But lots of merch sold lol.
For the 31 events they’re contracted for. If they get paid to do an overseas race in the off season then whatever. But if they’re paying out of their pocket to do a race for free then I feel like everyone should chip in. You don’t chip in you don’t get to jump on the bandwagon and make your patriotic ads. Like I said, I’m probably being petty about it but that is how I see it.
We need Deegan to race. He's by far the fastest American at the moment. When Tomac gets back up to speed he may take that title back.
I do think though that Marchbanks is the second fastest American right now. I would see how JCoop and Tomac do the next week or 2, then decide on the second rider. I think he'll have JCoop covered. We'll have to see where Tomac is over the next week or 2.
I'm not saying that Marchbanks is as fast as Tomac when Tomac is back to speed, but Tomac isn't back to normal pace yet. The question is whether that'll be in time.
If I had to choose today, I'd choose Marchbanks as our 2nd 450 guy. He's earned it, and he'll fight a good fight.
Shouldn't a rider at Deegan's level have MXdN in his contract?
Manufacturers not paying at least a win bonus for MXdN and HD38s refusing to ride without a bonus are both equally lame.
I don’t think being a professional dirt bike racer is comparable to 99% of what vital does.
So I would agree that I would not work for free but also I have no big following and media presence in this sport. Skipping the most prestigious event of the sport that made you big because you are not getting paid (enough)? Sure you can see it that way. but not seeing it the other way around. That this can be about glory and giving back to the sport and most importantly fans who are the basis for all that?
