Only $10 for all 2026 SX, MX, and SMX series.
Too much discing and grooming and not enough bumps, holes, chop, whoops and braking bumps.
Is Hughes right? How many of us don't ride in the rain anymore? I don't, don't like the mess of cleaning up the bikes after.
But this was me in the early 00's at Bremen. I remember vividly how badly I wanted to ride that day, in spite of light rain and 40 degree temps.
When I rolled up that Saturday I was the only person there other than the gate lady. She said ma'am you can ride for free today, knock yourself out!
We're still listening to Ryno?
Well he isnt wrong. All I can see from AMA riders practice on smooth groomed tracks. MXGP riders wait until track get rough before they practice.

So.... our guys practicing sx 90 percent of the time doesn't factor in??? 🤣
Commented this the other day and got obliterated as well.
Dudes racing in America are riding Supercross literally September-May right now. That’s 8 months. I’m not sure why that’s so hard to comprehend.
So what used to be perceived as a big advantage, SX timing, ability to jump over obstacles etc., is now your downfall ?
Roczen, Tomac, Webb are all set to go SX only to finish their careers because the skills and risks involved are more quantifiable than outdoors.
Extrapolate that to the focus of the kids.
Not that many years ago they were preparing the hell out of the nationals so it was smoother and that definitely hurt the USA team at the MXoN but then they started not preparing during the day again letting the tracks get rougher.
Here in Texas where it rains, if there’s a chance of rain, they’re cancelling.
I’ve already thought, “This is why Americans suck in the mud”.
Well, yes. They’ve learned how to ride like Americans and bring the same intensity.
They ride outdoors year round on shit tracks, we don’t.
They run a softer bikes than our guys and it works much better outside. Our guys except Jett and Hunter run stiff suspension outdoors.
Who's still wearing neck braces?
What he said!!!😊
Thats a great day for riding!
Even AC mentioned it as well on his podcast last week . The Vital experts will say hes wrong too.
Interesting.. where does Cole Davies slot into this conversation? the kid trained on SX as an amateur, but chased gate drops around the continent.
Id almost argue it (almost) doesn't matter the tracks or training facility, all of it is useless if your not lining up or getting gate drops.
The top riders of out sport talk about how much missing races effects them, even if they are on the bike training.
Why wouldn't it be any different for kids?
Jett and Hunter race SX yet are also the best motocross riders in the world...
Cole Davies is the 250 East SX Champion yet is also the fastest 250 MX rider in the USA...
US riders are spoilt training facility brats. That's why American riders are cooked...
Same here on a clay hilly track 89 muggy & it starts raining. We don’t stop riding & this track is full of square holes & rocks. Much worse than any gp practice track I,ve ever seen. More fun than riding on slippery ice & snow. Because of the jumps & hills. I always thought the northwest ride in it . I better too, just because it rains . You can’t turn into a squid. If you get a pack of riders with some skill. It’s a blast to hv 9 riders trying to roost each other . It’s a blast
Pit Row
It’s certainly part of the equation on why we’re behind. Is it the only reason? No.
Didnt the USA do pretty well in MXON last year considering it was effectively our B team? I mean shit we had RJ on a 450 crashing his brains out and Justin Cooper on a freaking 250 and lost to the brothers, again. SO we got 2nd place to a Australia who effectively live and ride in the US only.
I feel like the USA sucks stuff lately is a little overblown considering it just happens to be that Brother 1 and Brother 2 are the 2 best riders in the world right now in MX. Jett is also the best in SX, and even though Hunter lost the title last year he is, you know, elite.
I think all things considered our guys do well and total normal to have a year or two here and there while some talent drops off or is developing. We have dudes.
As opposed to listening to…..you?
Yes. Ryno knows what he’s talking about.
rougher: drop the tines and rip it 16" deep then dump 500 gallons of water in it so we play slot cars on motorcycles
From their amateur program to their tracks, conditions, practice days, bike set-ups, etc. they are being groomed to be better outdoor riders.
But there’s a caveat to that. It’s not just black-and-white. How do we measure success in that context since most of the times the European writers are racing the MXGP circuit and the American riders are racing the AMA circuit?
Once a year we have the MXoN, and in the last 12 to 15 years, the European teams have had more success than the Americans. But the majority of the time those events are held on MXGP tracks.
When guys like Tom Vialle and Jorge Prado come over to race our series, they don’t have as much success on our outdoor circuits as they did back in Europe. Then you have someone like Sacha Coenen who came over and won three of the four motos that he raced in. Whether that success would translate to full-time success in the states is a different question.
I do think that for the reasons I stated above. The amateur program, bike set up, weather conditions, tracks, etc., etc. that it is easier for the Europeans (or Aussies or New Zealanders) to come to America and have success than the other way around. I think our riders would struggle much more on the MXGP circuit.
I don’t agree with Ryan Hughes that it comes down to a skill issue. The skill and talent is there, but the focus on Supercross and $$ both from the riders perspective, and unfortunately, the promoters who have no interest in developing talent, but would rather line their pockets with money, it is hindering our riders ability to progress to the level of the MXGP guys outdoors.
You know that the Gypsy guy has Ryno on speed-dial for when he runs out of clickbait to push out.
it used to be said the Americans became faster because of supercross.....but let's face it - supercross today is nothing but a jump contest with whoops. i hate the dicing of tracks making it rut-o-cross. four strokes should be able to race fine on hard pack.
Ryno is starting to resemble manny the animal guy from wild boyz. That’s all I got out of this.
They are all fast, it ebbs and flows.
It’s become a “Rich Kid” sport. Last time I rolled in to Chicken Licks Raceway with my bike in the back of my $80k truck, I felt poor.
Why do you need a Prevost Bus and a 40’ trailer for a 65?
Too much little league dad pressure on kids. “Now Johnny I spent $20K on your bikes, you better win”. Let them ride and race for pure enjoyment for a while.
Zero “Mini Nationals” for kids under 13.
There’s a couple of young Aussie fellas and a Kiwi that seem to go okay outdoors despite being on SX for more than half the year. It’s not that.
Seems to me if the US are losing their former advantage, it started in your junior system a number of years ago, and we’re now seeing the difference.
agree ...its the junior system whereby the motos are short sprints (4 laps?) .....cause there's a 1000 races in one day.....due to greedy promoters.
If the junior US kids did longer motos on deteriorating tracks we would see the US MX standard rise eventually............
apart from deegs , chase and Jcoop who other US riders look good outdoors?
No current 250 US guyz that i can see?
Found something quite interesting.
Raced EMX 125 class:
Hunter Lawrence*
Jorge Prado
Dylan Ferrandis
Lucas Coenen
Sacha Coenen
Mikkel Kaarup*
* = 125 junior world championship
Post a reply to: Ryno: Americans are less skilled at motocross because our tracks are pampered and we don't ride when its wet
