I'm anxiously waiting on Yogi's explanation of this on Pulp tonight...

Funny you say that - I've messaged Steve asking if we can have him back tonight to try and explain the lack of penalty/black flag.

- One of the coolest things I've ever seen
- Deegan is a gift to the sport

Cooksey needs to get off his knees to Deegan. It's embarrassing!

Thank you. I've lost count of how many times I've seen it said Eli did the EXACT same thing. Not on Vital but on social media. No, no certainly did not

Absolutely not clicking on that but why are you surprised? The guy is clearly trying to kiss the ring of Deegan and ride their social media coat tails into getting more views on his channel.

so we've had one of the most controversial races in decades...followed by a limp 5 point penalty. Surely we can expect an in-depth interview with the AMA officials responsible for this, along with comments from the involved team managers and athletes themselves, right? (Yes, I know Jo has already spoken a bit about things).

Deegan was stupid in his over ambitious efforts to win. Try it once and if you didn't get it, just keep racing forward. Nothing you can do. But also, you guys act like Vince Freise doesn't do this every single race for way less. Not excusing what Deegan did. But also, this kid doesn't race like that every race like others do. He was going for a title....A complete BS title that has zero worth in my book except the money. I honestly blame Feld for coming up with this dumbass SMX "Playoff" idea. And why tf is it "play off"? We race in this sport, this isn't a lame ass ball sport game. Its "Raceoff" if anything. When you create massive money, double and triple points you are welcoming this exact outcome. Its not safe or exciting, its dumb and unnecessary. Now we have 2 guys out of MXdN because of this series. If they aren't going to get rid of it...make it normal points per moto and no multiplier.

He was already riding reckless in moto 1. Yes Difrancesco spun out but he would have damn near landed on him anyway.

Like many aggressive 250 riders, hes going to get a rude awakening if he tries that shit with the likes of Barcia, Ando, Tomac or Hunter.

Should he have been black flagged?

Yes.

Do I think the AMA would have black flagged him even if he succeeded in taking Jo down, then did the same to Seth? Absolutely not.

Deegan is dumb, but is he really that dumb? He'd be looking at a DQ, fine, and suspension, so ignoring a black flag would accomplish nothing, and at a high cost.

I'm glad to see respected guys that have been there done that, publicly state how over the top Deegans action were. He was slowly ramping up how hard he was hitting Jo. One or the other was going to get hurt sooner or later. Any incident on its own wasn't that bad, but add up the whole day and he was a straight up chode muffin.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is just how bad Deegan's take out attempts were, esp that last one where he hurt himself. Friese and Barcia (and Bogle among others) all are far more skilled at taking the front wheel out. Kitchen showed us last week he isn't very good at it either. I don't suppose many practice this, outside of Friese who probably has take out dummies set up in multiple places on his practice track, but Deegan's attempts were pretty weak. Karma sure did enter the ring on that last one tho.

I thought the same thing. When he did attempt the take out like the bowl turn try. He almost missed completely, then looked back which is why it seemed so obvious what he was doing. Joe was well prepared for it so the difference between expecting it and being blindsided I’m sure makes it easier. I was assuming the Lawerence boys had him on the practice track all week attempting possible take outs to have Joe well prepared for what was coming.

The gentleman's rule of racing is if you are behind the guy you take a shot either you get it done or you don't you just go on and win the race.  Deegs is a garbage piece of junk he is the same kind of black eye on the sport as Ronnie Mac in my opinion.

Someday in the 450s, consistent top 10 rider Haiden Deegan will take out Jett Lawrence because "he'll do whatever it takes to win".

When that happens, I think Deegan will get his shit rocked, and it will be well deserved.

100% obvious answer is yes. On the second attempt.

As I'm reading this...Barcia and Freezer have done nearly all of these in 1 supercross practice session at one point in their careers..

I don't understand why the AMA didn't DQ him, especially since he was already on probation. Giving him a 5 point penalty is barely a slap on the wrist, and certainly won't discourage such behavior moving forward.

I think it's clear the AMA is lost and they don't know what to do. Hiring Exra proves they know they have problems.

Yes, he really is that dumb.  He might be dumber than his fans.

Look at just how lopsided this poll is. 90 to 10?

There is truly something wrong with the officiating at the AMA, when that many people are calling them out on something that was obvious.  It was a BS call and BS penalty.  Someone in the AMA needs a penalty........Fired!

I did send an email to Mike Peletier yesterday and copied Rob Dingman for the heck of it.  Basically asked why Deegan wasn't black flagged at any point during the multiple take out attempts.  Gave some back up info on the overall situation and also mentioned how bad it would have looked if Jo gets hurt when the AMA let DBoy do what he was doing.

Mentioned that I didn't expect a personal reply but there are a lot of folks who are asking the same questions and that they need to do a PR on the situation and explain why no black flag was thrown.  If they don't give some clarification, everyone's going to take that as the AMA knows they screwed up and have no explanation for doing what they did.

Has anyone else sent them an email asking why no black flag?
