The man is letting us on in some insider secrets from truckin.
Just sold this 1999 KX 250 here in Denver, CO area. Put it on Craigslist for $2650 and it sold within a couple days (they offered 2500 but I gave them a deal as it was a reward for someone for their hard work...I sold it at a loss but I wanted to keep the bike in the dirt). It wasn't a restoration but the motor was gone through, re-plated, new crank bearings and seals, new rear shock, new bodywork, and the entire suspension was serviced with pivot works kits. My ads on FB were a waste of time: one obvious scammer and the rest never responded after they asked "Is it still available". Overall the market is a little soft here so you better be priced right. As for the vintage dirt bikes, they are selling but the market is down a bit on those.
She's a beaut, Clark.
My brother in law has a 2000 KX 250 that I have been bugging him to let me buy, but he likes the way it looks in his garage. lol
I paid $11k for my Beta back in 2014. ‘Ol girl isn’t even worth trading for a beach cruiser. Impossible to sell unless I just give it away.
Thinking I’ll turn the motor into a bitchin go-kart.

Yeah, I printed it out……..in color.
Going to look at a 2022 crf450 tomorrow with 14 hours for $5500. Hope it’s everything it seems to be. Only problem is I currently own a 2020 rmz250 and 2006 rm250. I’ll never sell the rm so the rmz will have to go…. And no one wants a Suzuki.. I’ll have to pretty much give it away, and even then, I’ll be lucky if I can get someone to actually go through with buying it.
Just bought a sweet Yamaha, good price....not coming from my construction work, but savings.
I got lucky last late last fall (Chicago area) and sold yz125 and 250 to a guy who needed 2 bikes . I didn't really want to sell the 125 but going into winter figured why not . I got what I wanted for them , so glad I didn't wait until this year
Was texting with a guy in AZ just scored a 2021 fc350 for $2500. Sounds like a drumming to me
I’m selling an 03 KTM 450 EXC. Is this considered a vintage bike now? Ha
Runs like a top. One of the most reliable bikes I’ve ever owned outside of handling like a pile of potatoes.
Book value says $3,500 which seems outrageous
I have a bunch of vintage/ evo bikes that I have no desire to sell, I love looking at them, and riding some of them. My current modern bikes, I always have 2, one for Mx and one for woods/ gncc / practice ….when they hit 100hrs, its time to upgrade, mainly because I don’t want to get into rebuilding transmissions & cranks…. My 23 KtM300sx has 115-/+ hrs , probably end up being around 130–135hrs by the time I leave Florida in May, hopefully by then, the big KTM sell off will be in full swing and I can pickup another 300SX on the cheap….
Hang on to your used bike a little longer if you can . C19 type of stuff going around, to boost the economy by having everyone sitting in. They,ll be lookin for dirt bikes etc. watch the price go from 2,400 I can’t sell it. To 4,200 gone in a day. Just say this mechanic did a full rebuild.
Keep selling because I love picking up lightly used, lightly modded 1-2 year old bikes for 30-40% off!
My current one is a 23' FC 350 with 36 hours and suspension for $6500.
Add to the collection! Up to 3 now for me!
Got a 17 YZ250F with new powerhead and lots of extras and a 09 150SX 2T that is primo now that ive spent a pile of money on restoring. Wont sell either of them cause I wouldnt get shit and I can't out ride either one of them with my vet skill level. Doesn't cost anything to leave them in my garage even If i decided one day to stop riding MX.
I got rid of my '06. Sold it stupid cheap to my son's friend, but I was in it for essentially nothing. I think I actually made money on it, not counting parts and gas/oil, etc.! Here's the story:
I worked at a Yamaha dealer at the time I bought the bike. My boss gave me an invoice cost deal (before holdback,) and Yamaha was giving out $400 in customer cash or something like that. They also had a "dealership employee bonus" of $100 that I lucked into. So, $500 below invoice, plus tax and registration, net cost. If I remember right, the grand total was around $4500 out the door. I financed it on Yamaha's 0/0/0 program ($0 down, 0% interest, $0 payments for one year,) then paid it off in full before the year was up, using my HELOC on my old house. I lost the house in the Great Recession, and with it the mortgage loan vaporized. Now, I wouldn't recommend that process to anyone for getting a motorcycle, but I essentially got a free bike (some percentage of the HELOC payments I made went toward the bike, but I wouldn't know how to begin to calculate that.)
I rode the piss out of that bike for almost 20 years before my ship came in and I was finally able to buy a house again and get a new YZ. Sold the old one for a grand and I'm happy to see it go to a good home.
I set my bikes up for me, ride the piss out of them for a long time (and maintain well so i can ride the piss out of them for a long time), and sell them cheap. Drives my wife nuts that I sell them cheap, "after all the work and money you put into it". Had an '02 KTM 400exc for 20 years. loved that bike. But my 2021 350fe is sooo much better....
Pit Row
Sold my Ca. plated 2003 WR450 Monday for $2,600'. Full extra set of plastic, extra turn signals, some bling wheel spacers etc. Seat concepts seat and stock seat, workshop manual, fresh brakes, fresh desert IT rear and shinko fatty front, carb just rebuilt by a local shop, new oil and filters, fresh chain and sprockets, extra oil filters and some other stuff, threw in a set of tie downs since the kid had brand new ratchet straps he couldn't figure out lol. After it was all said and done I made about 18 dollars. But I don't have to register and insure it anymore. That was the main reason to let it go, fun as shit extra dual sport but it was too much a month to sit in the garage to get ridden a couple times a year.
I've got 6 and counting
Wish I could have kept some bikes at least.
How cool would it be to fire up a low hour 380 SX and go for a rip now. Or a full race Vertemati 570 supermoto maybe...
I have 10 on my insurance policy.
Wow! Do you ride all of them often? Or do they mostly sit ?
Touché,
To me that seems to be the biggest downfall of buying one of the "off brand" bikes. Depending on your local market, resale can be tough.
I’m up to 4. I’d like to flip one I never ride.
Unfortunately that only slightly reduces the morons that either can't read, or think a seller might be enticed to change their mind when offered a very rare, AKC registered, miniature, hairless, Shar Pei Poodle.
