Sick ceet cover Bro . I had a red& white zebra striped 1 on my 87 cr125.  Kawi should release a single radiator kx125 for 2,999.00.   Then add a Huge contingency program like no other . Like 500 to win a local race unlimited classes paid.  Then everyone would buy at least 2 & a ton of parts.

True that was such a good looking bike.

Just have to be aware that Beetah wiring has been suspect for some time now.

Here's a Green 2 stroke from around 2018(?).

I'd love to see innovation like this never (series) produced Ossa Pioneer. Hey, Kawasaki bought Bimota, perhaps  they might have 'snaffled' the remnants of OSSA, after their disasterous 'merge' with Gas Gas.

A very innovative 2 stroke design. Reversed and Laid Back Cylinder, EFI - weirdly, the best info I ever found about it was from an English Language Print version of a French Trials Magazine. The engineer behind the bike said it was to use multiple injectors - Transfer Port, Top of Barrel ( so as to be 'near' to DFI), and perhaps on the Throttle body,  so to get the power and revs, And 'cleanliness' above what was required over their Trials EFI bikes. Cassette Gearbox, Cassette Crank - note the 'bump' at the top of the alternator cover - that was for the conrod to come through, from that side of the engine.

PS  : Now That's, a Snail Pipe!

This prototype is from 2011-2012, a couple of years before Gasgas and Ossa signed an agreement to produce the Ossa trial at the Gasgas plant.

What good times, and what a shame that, as always in the Spanish motorcycle industry, all dreams, development and innovation are frustrated by lack of support, investment and management.

I know someone who examined that Ossa in the factory while he was there on business.  He said that the motor was mostly plastic and non-functioning and was told it was made just as a proof of concept platform...He showed me the pictures on his phone to prove he was there looking at the bike.

I was very disappointed!

That's what bikes - well, new products - start out as - proof of concept platforms, with a fair bit of 'fakery'.

It's how it goes - start with mock ups, and go from there.

The article I found, said they'd built one (or 2?) up using the existing Trials engine, with the same (Trials) EFI system. And, that is what brought the discussion of the changes to the EFI system, that would be needed to produce the far more power needed for an Enduro bike, over the Trials bike.

Cripes, you go to EICMA etc, and a fair percentage of the bikes you'll see, are non functioning 'things'.

Though, I have to say, years ago at Cologne, that I was at, when they started up the H2 (Supercharged) Kawasaki, with what I think was a very 'non roadworthy' Exhaust, it was a hell of a thing. It shook the Hall - it was, Magnificent!

I wish I could recall the interesting stuff about the Radiator / Fuel Tank and Airbox on The Pioneer. It was all a bit unconventional, and if I had a guess about their various positions, years after I read about it all, I'd sure as s**t get it wrong 😁

It's just a damned shame that OSSA went under.

One thing you can say about the Spanish MC Industry and Enthusiasts - they have a Go, when so many others, Do Not.

Recent info I've found on OSSA 2025, is they've  new ownership, and  that they are going to be doing E Bikes........

Agree with you Bearuno.
The rumors that were heard here were that only one prototype was built, which is the one that used at Eicma. Rumors say that it was seen riding enduro in the Girona area, but there were never any pics, the doubt of whether it was a functional prototype was always there.
The layout of the engine meant that the tank could be lowered, occupying part of the usual place of the cylinder and thus lowering the center of gravity. The tank itself was part of the air filter box, located very high, where the fuel usually goes.
Others also tried to renew Bultaco with electric bikes a few years ago, but it ended up in bankruptcy.

To be able to take both the gearbox and crankshaft without split the cases would be otherworldly... now that's innovation, only seen in MotoGP I believe. What are the big manufacturers doing in their R&D bunkers? Why isn't this already the norm for bikes with short service intervals?

Late reply, I know, but here's my take:

1 - The ad came out during a SX race simply to reach the largest audience.  Off-road guys watch SX, and so do casual fans.  A lot of MX guys ride off-road, too.  Plus, SX gets much more publicity than any off-road series.  More eyes and ears equals more potential sales.

2 - The bike in the ad sounds like a minimum of 250ccs.  Why would they make a small bore bike if they used that sound clip?  All of us are smart enough to know the difference.  A lot of casual fans are NPCs, but we moto nuts are not.

3 - If Kawasaki is aiming for the off-road market and are smart about it, they'll label it a KDX250 and/or KDX300.  Not a KLX.  No extra X.  Being Kawasaki's two stroke off-road family with such a long and rich history, a revival of the KDX name would be great.

4 - Even though steel is more compliant and forgiving, using the current KX platform would make the most economical sense.  Regardless, I hope they equip it with a counter balancer.  Aluminum is not nearly as forgiving as steel, so vibration would be off the charts without one.  Even steel frames shake like crazy.  It doesn't rob that much power.  When I hear people argue against them, I get a visual of a guy drenched in sweat while driving his hot rod without A/C because it "robs too much horsepower."  Gimme a break.  Personally, I wouldn't want to pay a lot of money for a bike that makes my hands and feet numb after riding it for a while.  My 2006 KX250 did that.  I'm 50, y'all, so I like a little comfort.

5 - An electric starter would tickle the fancy of a lot of people.  Is it necessary?  That depends.  There are good arguments for and against it.  If it has e-start, put a backup kick starter on it.  A lot of people miss them on the new KTMs.  Personally, having bad knees, I wouldn't be upset to see an easy button.

6 - As far as FI goes, I'm on the fence about it.  It would certainly drive up the cost and complexity, but it could be necessary for emissions.  An MX bike doesn't have the restrictions due to it being a closed-course competition motorcycle.  I don't know, though, because the YZX bikes are carbureted.  I'm not 100% up to speed on USFS regulations in relation to dirt bikes, so don't crucify me if I'm wrong.  A carburetor would be a smart move for economic and simplicity reasons.  Emissions on the other hand, I'm sure they're not the best.  I'm not a big fan of the EPA, but they could play a significant role in the final product.

7 - Whatever they come out with will be after careful consideration of their target audience.  Kawasaki has the money to do research for the hard data they need.  They know what they're doing.  Coming out with a revised minibike would be a huge mistake after releasing their ad.  All of the comments referenced were about bringing a two stroke back, not updating an existing model.  That would imply they're coming out with something they don't currently produce.  Also, as mentioned earlier, the sound bite was not a small bore bike.  Sorry, y'all, that wasn't a 125.  But that's not to say small bore bikes couldn't be updated or introduced later.

Take what I say as only my opinion.  I'm old, haven't been on a bike in a while, and currently overseas, but I'm still a dirt bike fan and a potential customer.  I'd love to see a KDX offered in 250cc and 300cc versions with a steel frame (even though I argued against it), an easy button with a kick backup, a counter balancer, and a carburetor for simplicity.  A little bit of new, a little bit of old.  I could see a green bike in my garage again someday.  We'll see if Kawasaki is listening.

“if they’re smart, they won’t label it a KLX”

…you do know that ‘KLX’ was a designation for their four stroke trail bike lines?
Never before, nor ever, will a two stroke Kawasaki be labelled ‘KLX’.

Kawasaki had another teaser video on IG that seemed like it was for the side by side market with a turbo charged H2 engine in it… the comment section had 85% responses that were something like this, and i’m paraphrasing, … no one cares where is the two stroke MX bike, or, when are you releasing the new two stroke!!! 😂

Between an H2-powered KRX and this new smoker, Kawi is going to be getting a lot of my money.  I suspect many are in the same boat.

Yes, I'm well aware.  I was referring to several people in this thread implying they should use the KLX designation.

Your last paragraph would be an almost ideal bike, IMO.  The only thing I'd add is make sure there's a powerful enough lighting circuit to run a Baja Designs headlight or similar.  Bonus points if they can somehow manage to work up a dual sport kit that's plug and play either through Kawi themselves or a quality outside vendor.  There's nothing worse than having a new bike and having to immediately hack up wiring.

Good catch.  I completely forgot about a lighting circuit.  Given a choice between with or without lights, I'd buy one with them.

Salesmen for a huge Kawi store here. Kawi is really on the rampage to take over the market on everything. they brought out a HVAC SXS,a great electric golf cart, and some neat electric bikes for kids. Really think there going after the ktm enduro market with the woods stuff. I expect to see the 300 which our rep is hinting towards. But it may be in two flavors.

KTM made this bike for three years (‘17-‘19 250XC and 300XC). Then they screwed it all up in ‘20 with TPI.

Then KTM fixed it in '23 with TBI.  The new ones rip like the old ones, but better.

I calculate that as approximately 1 month.

The 125, to me, makes the most logical sense.  If you're trying to grow your customer base, and attract buyers to your brand or KEEP buyers on your brand, it addresses: lower purchase price, lower maintenance cost, simpler maintenance, fills a hole in your line-up, the resurgence of, popularity of, recognition of the importance of the 125 as a class and a stepping stone to bigger bikes.

PS:  Nevermind the sound of the bike in the teaser, do you really think the marketing people making tweets are that savvy?  It sounds like a loaded-up craigslist special.

Likewise BARGE. I do Kawi sales in Michigan, and when I mentioned a KX300 our rep hinted toward as well just last week. As an avid off-roader a KX300X is what I told my peers; maybe a 3-something like the 112. Regardless excited for the fresh foot traffic (which will probably late Fall so that works right?)

And yes, Kawasaki is active on many fronts all of a sudden. We just brought in a 20" e-bike and it's a load of fun in the showroom during downtime (or not).

Unless you follow the KTM 125 plan and make it impossible/highly impractical for the buyer to tune/modify without major expense and aggravation, not to mention questionable performance and reliability. Then it sounds like the anti-plan for success.

They brought it up at a supercross and the SX announcers (AC) said it was a full size race bike. A 300cc woods and MX version makes sense to me.

And that’s it? “We heard you…” The only voices calling for two stroke return, and the only voices Kawasaki heard, was for a 300?

Oh, and maybe an updated 85 and 65?

Again. That sucks 👎

I guess now the argument is: Why doesn’t Yamaha eliminate the 125 and 250 and just release a 300?

Well, it was fun to think about, I guess 😏

May have been tongue in cheek but AC said he had one pre-ordered. Don't think he'd say that for a woods bike

He said a 300?

He’s a big guy. A 300 would work for him.
