I really like JT on podcasts as well as TV. He sometimes gets words wrong in his vocabulary but I don't fault him much for it. He's always working toward expanding his knowledge and value. Can't bat .1000....

So many Vitards think they can do a better job. Why are they wasting their time on this forum when they could be applying for a job with the TV crew?

They don't call em Vitards for nothing ™

This we can agree on. :o)

I'm a big fan of JT and think he does a great job trackside. But I wouldn't put him in the booth. Th  few times I've heard him in the booth he's way too monotone and comes across as if the race is boring him. He might be trying to offset Malin's excitement but I think he over corrects.

They are like teammates in a bigger picture.  The broadcast gives them a specific job to fulfill.  Will C isn’t going and talking to riders because she came up with the idea.  It’s a role given to her by production.  Her and JT are trackside “insiders” who give the viewer a sense of understanding the riders story more as the night unfolds.  Whoever is in the booth gives the play by play and they have specific guidelines as well.  It’s not a free for all.  And blaming JT for talking about riders or Will for having spoken with riders that night is hilarious feedback.  If it weren’t either of them there’d be someone in their place doing exactly the same job.

Also, people become fans of a sport or athlete because of their story.  You think NBC isn’t using decades of research to run productions like this? They want the casual viewer to hear something about one of these guys or the season or sport and become a fan…because that’s what brings people back.

"Casual viewers"   are near non-existent.    This is a niche sport....always has been, always will be.   DV12 discussed this at length in a past interview.

The "dumbing down" commentary week after week is an insult to the true fans of the sport.        I have no issues with RC, Leigh or anyone they usually have in the booth....in fact, I liked Ralph and Fro.

The fluff pieces DURING the race are useless and take away from the actual racing action.

Call the race, show the race.      The JT/Will crap can be done in the downtime between races.

RC will have some really good insight, but its like one in a hundred.  His interview with Gypsy was really entertaining and I thought he did a great job, I wonder why he chokes on his words on the broadcast and is a little all over the place.  I think JT does a good job, and we could MAYBE see him in the booth years down the road, who knows.  Look at the hoops their making Weege jump through, and hes been at it for a while.

That's a great thought, but it's already been proven that Feld we only have champions in the booth. Look at Blair. So much talent and insight, but just got disrespected and kicked out because he was embarrassing RC with his talent. Could you imagine how dynamic the broadcast would be if it was,  Weege, Blair and JT for example? Free flowing opinions, and a professional use of the English language. Enough with these  puppets that can't get a sentence out, or it's all chopped up bullshit just because they've won 150 races. It's Crap. I'm all for guys that have been there and done that like Tony Romo, Shaq, and charles ECT, but they deliver. They are themselves when the camera at their face.

Blair said it was an exec at NBC that was blocking him (he never named who though). Feld was pushing for him to be in the booth.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, RC is the GOAT of MX but he is a C class announcer. If he wasn’t the GOAT he never would have lasted this long in the booth.

I agree that JT is a big plus for the broadcast.

Someone needs to tell him it is time to give up on the Phil and Lil haircut though...That shit is cringe.

I have supercross watch parties with friends uninvolved with the sport often.  You know what gets them invested in the outcome of the race?

The riders stories.  That’s it.  Whether you think it’s net zero or not, NBC isn’t abandoning prouduction structure because of the hardcore fans who would watch no matter what.

That's cool you host parties....but of those people in the parties., how many are becoming actual/invested long term fans of the sport?

My wife and I used to attend the races together, and she's watched a few of the recent mains in the last 4-5 years.   She did that stuff for me....not because she is into the sport.       She was "casually" listening while cooking the other night when I was watching the 450 main.      She was laughing at and commenting on the announcing.  Then she asked why I was muting the show....   so I unmuted, looked her way and let her figure out why.     What I got was "oh....that is baaaaad".   It was rambling/screetching Will.

The whole production is an amateur hour hot mess...and it's been that way forever.

Can you imagine presenting a broadcast like ours for the NFL, MLB etc?

As fans, are we just to sit back and let them shove garbage on our plates because "we will watch anyway"?     Seems like a recipe to cause a loss of interest.     I tuned out last year and just watched highlights because it got so bad.

I’m convinced he only posts for rage bait. Just about every comment is the same copy and paste “Vitards are idiots” no matter the thread. Somehow this place is so bad yet he can’t keep himself away from it.

I don't mind JT. Does he look like a guy in his 40's trying to stay cool with his tight shirts and haircut.. sure. But he is good at what he's doing and doesn't have an annoying voice. Ill take that all damn day over Will's annoying ass voice and long winded fucking stories while I'm trying to concentrate on the race or find why the crowd is going nuts. Spare me the "mute your TV" crap too. I shouldn't have to.

Diffey can fuck off too. He especially annoyed me the week Malcome won. James is trying to get out his emotions while Malcom is crossing the line and that douchebag just starts yelling and James shuts up. It was already an epic moment and who knows if it could have been even more epic had James got to say what he was feeling. Anyone that knows this sport knew the significance of that moment and i feel like James, Malcom and us fans were robbed of a little something there. We all look back on certain moments with awesome calls and Diffey ruined that one. Get rid of Will and Diffey PLEASE

On another note, have you noticed that AC has changed the way he speaks on race day live? He sounds more monotone now than he was before. I especially noticed it on the Detroit broadcast. His enthusiasm (or at least the way he expresses it) seems to be less.

Probably scared for his life being in Detroit

JT and Daniel Blair both were really good. Did not work out so well for Daniel Blair.

Let's hope the people that make these decisions give more time to JT instead of  throwing it down to Will for a minute and 20 rant.

JT - he’s has gotten a lot better over the years. He does a good job saying something semi relevant in the 5 secs they go to him.

Weege - everyone likes him. No hate there.

Diffey - I honestly don’t think he follows smx the way an announcer should. I guarantee he couldn’t name dudes running 15th and below. When he is in the booth with RC it’s a nightmare. A bunch of screaming with nothing informative.

RC - RC is actually really good on podcasts and pre race stuff. It’s just when the race starts everything changes. He screams into the mic and talks so fast he loses his words/thoughts. I think he’s more in “fan” watch mode vs broadcasting mode. If he doesn’t scream and just slow down he would be fine. Pairing him with Will also hurts him.

Will - she ruins the broadcast. I honestly think if she isn’t there, RC doesn’t get as much hate. It’s something about their high pitch voices and no broadcast chemistry. She also talks wayyyy to long. Why is she talking more than JT and sometimes weege? Everything she adds is pre race, post race stuff. Just having her talk about how Jett really want to win and has been eating seaweed in the morning while someone is making a pass just kills me.

If they just got rid of Will 90% of broadcast hate would stop. When she is not on the broadcast for a week, you rarely see broadcast hate posting.

I liked him as a racer.  He raced alongg time . I would check cycle news to see where he finished & others.  I don’t watch much pro sx a high light race here & there.  He seems kinda serious.i,m sue that’s the part he’s told to play.  Don’t watch much pro mx either . A high light of some races.  Because i don’t hv time work 7 days a week for months straight. Then work on bikes & ride.  I mainly just watch 125 races .

JT and RC both get a B. That aint bad for dudes who learned on the fly and have been racing primarirly since they were 5 years old. So RC gets hung up on words at times, we all do.

JT needs is a bigger shirt!!!

More often than not JT is the ONLY source of analysis during a race. RC is just a sound board with a pulse.

JT definitely has the gift of clear and relatable articulation. It goes without saying that Weege is in a similar category. They both can talk and the words they say sound good.

RC is in the booth because of what he accomplished, not because he's skilled at commentary.

It's not like Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski are the sharpest tools in the shed. Listening to those boneheads commentate is enough to make anyone want to stay in school.

Hammertime, back to bringing the heat lately 😘

JT has brought a lot to the broadcast team, and obviously he's worked hard at it.  It does feel, to me anyway, that he still is finding his voice and at times seems to be trying a bit too hard such that his erudition suffers from prolix volubility. 😇

JT's only going to get better, strikes me as a very disciplined goal-oriented person.   He and Stew definitely have raised the bar, much respect.  Stew is so good at picking apart moments in the race, and seems to me anyway comfortable just being himself.  Bailey is still the gold standard for me in term of pacing his speech while giving insight.  GL was very good, but like Reed sometimes the commentary feels more about them than the race.

Weege is terrific.  I don't really have an issue with the others, it's easy to turn them off.  I'm there for the racing, not the commentary.  RC in the past seemed to have worked hard to get better but now seems to have regressed over the last couple years, and he could offer more.  Will doesn't bother me, but she probably could benefit from not using 10 words when five will do.

You complain about a handful of users that have hurt your little feelings needing to get clipped....meanwhile 99% of the forum is wondering why you haven't been clipped.

Like I said in another post Magoober, if you find yourself always in a situation of getting your feelings hurt or thinking the other people are the problem/assholes.....maybe it's time to self reflect, what is the common denominator in all of these situations?

It's YOU.   Have you ever had the self awareness to think that maybe YOU are part of the problem?  Or have you lived your entire life playing the victim like a little fucking bitch?

P.S. We both know you are reading this and we both know that I'm 100% right.  Let us know if you're ever ready to be a man and admit it.

RC puts effort into his delivery and vocabulary; the improvement is subtle but noticable. If you watch a race he called in his first session vs a recent race, the difference is profound.

I agree.  He has worked and has improved.  But it's also clear that no matter how much he knows about the sport and may be able to articulate in say, an interview on a podcast, it just doesn't come naturally when he's on tv.  Compare him to Stew who is so much more of a natural.

JT is ok.  He shines with the current line up but hard to say if that's because he's good or Diffy/RC and Shrill are just so bad.  If we're going to complain about any of them, Shrill should get the most hate.
