Not to discredit the other media guys (Weege, JT, etc.), they’re great at what they do, but if there’s anyone in the moto media that could take over hosting Pulp with the radio-show format, it’s DB by a long shot.

Trying to read between the lines of what he was saying, this is exactly the same conclusion I came to, there was a video doing the rounds here a while back where RC was being a dick to him in front of a group of people.. I think DB is just too classy to throw the blame

He is sponsored by Monster and gets paid by them whether he is on the broadcast team or not. I also believe he is getting paid by NBC as well.
I can say it, because it is exceedingly simple.
Monster pays Ricky to wear a green M during the broadcast. Monster pays Feld to put a green M across the the races. Monster pays NBC to put a green M on the broadcast.
None of these parties have conflicts of interest to deal with because all parties are already compensated by the same sponsor .
I don’t have an issue with anything you just said. I’d just be surprised if he’s only getting a check from monster and not NBC.

Both relationships are only allowed because the sponsor arranged it.
The name of the bank on Ricky’s paycheck is far less relevant than the overall financier.
RC was a great racer. He is not a great announcer.

So RC is only in that spot because of monsters leverage over feld/nbc? Not trying to be a pill just not sure it’s genuine to say monsters paying Ricky’s salary on behalf of nbc without some evidence.

I thought it was very‘interesting’ that DB said in the end his public popularity worked against him.

all i can say is, another year another screech/RC/bondo show and it's getting really really old. it's already getting old hearing Stew call everyone "this kiid" and "dis dude".
yeah first world problems, but we ARE the first world BECAUSE we push for high standards.
most of you that have worked for Big Companies know that many management level execs have Failed their way Up. The talented folks, like DB, and others are held back by the management execs with little expertise in this field. Happens all the time in my biz. The management execs that have failed up, can play the Corporate butt kissing game, the dont make any waves games, better than the talented people, and sadly these backstabbers are promoted up the Corporate ladder. And the talented people dont get the higher up positions they deserve. This is called the Corporate douchebag world. Most talented people have a hard time operating in this system.
Its a real shame DB is not a part of the SX or MX broadcast team, he was fantastic.
There was a post here many months ago, that showed a video of RC with a group of kids/parents doing a SX track walk during the day, and DB walked by, and RC was rude as Fk to DB right in front of all these kids/parents, basicially told DB to get his a__ out of the stadium. Sad to see that video.

Oh boy we've gone full circle and now we're back to it being all RC's fault, even though DB didn't actually say it out loud. If that is the case, why did RC single out DB? Stew is ultra popular with the fans too, as is AC, and JT as well, and Weege also. Is RC going to go after all of them LOL and pick them off one by one? Why did he only do it to DB? Just doesn't add up.... seems like DB might have been paranoid of that, but ultimately it was the NBC executive;s call. Sometimes people just don't get along, and maybe that exec and DB just never saw eye to eye on things.
And as for DB saying that his popularity might have been his downfall.... come on, since when do people in media get removed from their jobs because they are popular with the fans LOL? That;s what the media wants, popular people on their broadcasts!
Why would Steve ever stop? He has enough free time to mountain bike or moto during the week, gets paid very well, and gets to travel the world. I get he jokes about quitting, but really it's not like he's working a 9-5 soul sucking office job.
Traveling every weekend for 3/4 of the year for over 20 years would get exhausting I think. Not saying it’s not a good life but that much travel would wear in anyone.
Blair is a strange duck. On one hand he has operated at a very high level in many fields: Pro MX/SX rider, recording music artist, podcast host (I loved Main Event Moto), factory KTM OB manager, and NBC broadcast announcer. On the other hand, he is a hot mess all over the place. It's impressiv to be that successful in even one of those areas, but he doesn't stick it out.
I mean, the executive cutting down the egotistical talent is a tale as old as time. You're going to let one guy drive you out of your dream job? People grind for decades to get to where Daniel did. Look at Weege. If anyone deserves that shot it's him. But, Weege keeps going. Daniel has a quality in him that he makes huge progress much faster than others, but the flip side is he bounces all over the place.
mostly fair take. corporate ladder you gotta eat shit for an indefinite period of time. he's just not the type. he's not a snowflake either, because we've seen him grind. and the stories he's told about things like his taxi cab venture and shit like that are pretty commendable.
i dunno, some don't wanna take that road, some do. i wouldn't fault anyone either way.
as an aside, it's pretty fucked up RC made his name in a field that rewards pure merit, and turns around and cockblocks DB because he feels overshadowed by DBs talent (assuming he did). but even inaction on his part, not going to bat for DB is shitty. whether you believe in karma or not, those are some hot coals to heap on one's own head. lucky enough to be rewarded for YOUR merit, but play dirty to prevent others from the same.
i probably won't do it, but it's almost enough to make me cancel the nbc sub. fuck you nbc
