Udpdate: The latest information points towards the Lake Elsinore track managment lying about the reasons the facility is shutting down, as there's no active lawsuit against the property and operators.
Well, it finally happened, Lake Elsinore is now closing as well. Last five years or so has been rough for the once Mecca of motocross, Southern California.
The track is closing due to a lawsuit. Sadly, the story behind it sucks. Some kid on a 125 was kicked off the mini/kids track multiple times, then snuck back on while no one was looking. He whiskey throttled into a little girl that was riding (around 8-9 years old I believe) and killed her.
I learned how to ride at this track, great times and great memories.

This is so tragic man. Poor girl and her parents. Insane.
So sad about the loss of life. RIP moto sister.
Bummer to lose a track but something is going to give when we have these kind of irresponsible actions in this life.
This is really bothering me. Everyone loses.
I learned to ride there as well. Lived on the same street as the track till I was 18. Dad helped weld up the gates and water tanks for the race track back in the day. Raced there every weekend growing up. Sucks when one dumbass fucks it up for everyone.
They should have booted that goon the 1st time he hopped on the kid's track.... such a bummer.

Very sad about the loss of the little girl.
And bummer for the SoCal moto community on losing the track. Back in the 2000's we used to take trips down to ride and Elsinore was a regular stop. Dirt wasn't ideal and you'd have to wait at least 15 minutes after they watered because it was like riding on ice, but it was fun with all the big jumps.
The first time the little shit went back on the track after being told to get off, he should have been escorted out without a refund.
Cool shot! Haven’t seen that jump for about 24 years😄
Wow. I learned how to ride tracks at Lake Elsinore, too. Met McGrath there and got his autograph at the tail end of his career at Yamaha.
Very sad for the track closing and even sadder for the passing of the girl, so incredibly heartbreaking.
Sucks! And condolences to the fam but I feel idiocracy runs more rampant here than anywhere else I have been. Sucks that a few can ruin it for all!
As a parent, I don't even know how you would continue living after that.
Worst case scenario in every possible way.
Who was the rider who killed her, or how old was he? Who were his parents?
A lot of time spent riding and racing there over the last 23 years. I hope eventually it will open back up. This sucks for all parties involved.
When does this take effect? Thought LEMX had the Elsinore GP and a McGrath Holeshot challenge on the books…
When your kid gets landed on and killed I'll certainly cut you some slack and it's fair game, I'd probably drink myself to death after something like that..... but this is why you don't sue a track when your kid launches himself off a berm, especially when you're in the industry and your kid is back riding before long.
I'm so freaking sad man. Elsinore has been my spot since I was a kid. Like many other people my age it was also the first track I ever rode. The IV and Vet are my jam now that I'm a younger vet rider. I can be comfortable and have fun and not feel sketchy like I do on some of the other tracks around here. RIP Elsinore. Thanks to all of the owners and crew over the years for your hard work and providing such an iconic facility in Socal. I'm depressed.
…hopefully the remaining public tracks here will see this as a warning, and start employing flaggers or track marshalls to separate adult size riders from kids on mini bikes.
The loss of life of a small child is unbelievably tragic, but ultimately avoidable if stronger policies were in place, and attending track personnel were present on tracks where small children are learning to ride.
From my understanding, the individual who ran into the young child obviously did not belong on the track that she was riding on, and should have been escorted from the facility after getting the second warning.
Another issue that I suspect will soon result in disaster is adult riders who allow their small children onto the main tracks on mini bikes at the same time as full-size motorcycles and expert level riders.
I am sure I am not alone when I say that I have dodged a fallen or weaving mini bike rider while coming off of a jump more than once.
from what I can gather, at just about any other practice track outside of my area, practice sessions are separated by skill level and bike size.
I do not understand why some tracks here do not start implementing this policy to protect everyone.
Insurance companies throw a wide net to cover their losses. It isn't always the injured people that sue. I would say that if that idiot was ordered off the mini track but continued to go out then that is on Elsinore for not taking stronger action against him. This sucks from all points.
Pit Row
Looks like the GP will be the last race there
Damn shame, rode it once while over there on holidays- really slippery hard pack when wet, a lot like home for me!
It and Milestone were 2 real fun facilities 😢
Rode it twice on trips to California, will be missed.
Also rode Milestone a couple of time great track as well miss that one.
This. I moved away from CA a decade ago. The lack of safety and control at SoCal tracks is pretty unbelievable. Where I am now, practice sessions have flaggers and are split up by bike size and ability level. As litigious as California is, it is hard to believe that this continues to go on. As a matter of fact, I just learned this week that AMA insured tracks will be banning all pit bikes in 2025. I heard that over 70 percent of recent claims against track owners have been related to off-track incidents in the pits. It really is time for us as a community to take safety more seriously. I grew up close to the Elsinore track, and while it was never a favorite of mine, I certainly had plenty of good times there. I hope this serves as a warning to all tracks everywhere. The availability of insurance is the number 1 threat to motocross at the moment.
You sound like a government.
Willing to implement things, hire people, build more stuff for 'safety'..
When really it is everyone's responsibility to act properly. People are just too dumb nowadays or just don't care. We all need to remind them as a community when they cross the line. Not spend more money and build dumb stuff so you 'feel' safer.
That kid just needs to get slapped like back in the old days
Sad situation, don’t understand how this hasn’t happened at GH with the stories you hear of minis riding with pros with no flaggers.
Along with this, bad things happen when tracks get sued. Unfortunately the industry looks the other way when one of their own are doing the suing (last pulp episode still hyping EKS brand goggles).
There has been at least one minibike rider hit and killed at GH by a big bike.

The Downey family started a safety foundation after this. Unfortunately, not everyone is listening, apparently.
I threw my big stack of EKS goggles in the trash and switched to Scott after I heard about the LACR lawsuit. Rich Taylor writes Pulp a check for advertising every year.
How many tracks have closed in the last few years in socal now?
Such a sad story. Never rode there but it’s lore in the motocross world will live on forever.
I’m surprised club (semi private) tracks aren’t more popular. They keep out the riff raff, everyone gets to know and respect one another and police themselves. The state park track here in Utah can be downright dangerous at times with all different skill levels on the track.
Bummer man, It was only a matter of time, the houses keep moving closer and closer. Nothing like it was in the late 90's early 2000's. I'm pretty sure that pic above it the big step up that took out many people as well from coming up short and bouncing down the landing. As another poster said you wouldn't dare riding right after the water truck came by as it was like ice! This was my go to place before Pala came. Condolences to the poor kid's parents I couldn't even imagine.
Racetown, comp edge. State fair now LEMX, might be missing one up toward Ventura forget the name. Unless the moto industry pulls together and gets some serious organization and funding; I fear this is going to continue to happen. Ride safe, don’t sue. Cheers
Piru or Lemon Grove was that one. Also Comp Park but that was long time ago but after Carlsbad, Saddleback. Another was down in SD don’t know that name. There was also Amago. Anyone been to I5 MX ran by the state lately? At one time it was pretty OK
