It’s not just amateur motocross, it’s most youth sports that are screwed up. Travel baseball, basketball, gymnastics.. Parents going all in on their kids sport. The average kid is better off focusing on competing on the local level instead of state/national stage.

Just raced the amateur classic there this past weekend. That track is so gnarly, like chocolate cake on steroids in the morning. Then at the end of the day it’s like a warzone. Not one inch didn’t have a rut or a bump. Kickers on the massive jumps too. I made a last lap pass in gravity cavity, shit like that is what I do it all for man what a feeling!

I raced that race in n the 500 class. My son was a baby and I bought him this shirt. My daughter and grandkids have all worn it. I still have it.

You know I’ve watched the entire MXGP season so far on TV and I can say this - having far fewer riders on the gate makes absolutely zero difference to the spectacle. In fact when you watch US Nationals and MXGP back-to-back on the same weekend one thing becomes very obvious - the leaders in MXGP aren’t battling groups of 2-3 lappers in the back half of the race. I'd love it if holeshot devices were banned tbh. Would cut down on first turn crashes, separate the field a bit, and require more skill

I don’t see Mitch wanting to take on basically double the workload at this point in his life. Dude has been there and done that 100 times. We’re lucky he’s still involved as much as he is.

I bailed on the final practice of the day, but thats not the point, its sitting back at your pits twiddling your thumbs for an hour before its your go back on the track.

Loretta Lynns, while well-intentioned, has really had a negative impact on amateur motocross. I started racing in the 1970s before LL was a thing. Promotions were instant when you acquired enough points (15 to go from C to B.) Win 3 races or get a handful of top 5 finishes and you were moved up. Back then, A, B, and C gates were almost always full or at least evenly distributed, unlike now when the C classes have full gates and there are only a few riders in A and B. Peak Sacha Coenen today. Blazing fast in practice, blazing fast first moto with several crashes and coming back until the end. Holeshot moto 2, lead the way, get sketchy a few times, win the moto in dominating fashion. Just amazing to see these two brothers going for it and live their dream

You can hate the kid all you want, I’m not a fan of his podium antics etc.. But you can’t deny he puts in the work, he was worlds better than last week, his first moto start was great, and motored his way into third in the 2nd moto.. he set the bar very high with all the pre-season crap, but if you look at it how it is, this is a solid rookie debut

Jett came along, the bar got raised and what was good enough to win before 2023 was no longer. Yep. Ken was notorious for being a bit of a headcase with setups during his Honda years (never as bad as Chase) but it seems he's learnt in recent seasons to build a bike that's 'pretty good' and comfortable everywhere and then leave it the hell alone so that it doesn't constantly surprise him and he can let his talent do the talking. Most vet riders are on the heavie side and they go just as fast on basically any full size bike...the rider is the deciding factor. Unless you're a solid local intermediate (most vet guys aren't) the bike is the least of your worries most of the time.
