Ha, this thread sucks for me now. 2005 crf250x (original owner). "Mostly original". Just had "wife's bike" "top end rebuilt". "Original bottom end". "Engine builder said the crank was in excellent shape". "Fresh oil". "New Air Filter". "Never raced", "trail ridden only by my wife" (and me occasionally). "Some new plastics", (just to spruce it up for her). Etc.,etc..... But it's all true. Hope she doesn't want to sell it. I won't know how to advertise it.
Red flags for me
- New top end or bottom end
- Low hours (no mention of how many hours)
- Picture of the bike in the back of a truck when it was brand new. Extra points if the truck was parked next to a gas pump at the time.
- Higher price than I can buy the same bike for new.
- Poorly focused pics/bike clearly not cleaned at all since last ride.
- Biggest one for me: Still owe on it
Annoying things I see on Facebook
- KX for sale (which one?)
- RMZ for sale
So what I am gathering is that none of you buy ANY used bikes lol. I haven't seen a single ad without any of the phrases from these comments.
Also, why are most used bikes missing side number plates? I don't get it. Where did they go? Why did you even take them off?

“ wanna take it down the road”
"Not answering any questions so don't ask"
Four wheelers in the back round.
Anything that mentions the engine has been tuned is a red light for me.
reliability is probably gone! & it’s probably a ticking time bomb.
Sort of on the same topic, I used to love it when selling a bike that is genuinely in the condition described and well looked after etc and people would contact you to tell you that you have it listed as overpriced and you will never sell it for that money.
Or ask you if you want to swap it for something, like a quad!
Any reference to "front shocks".
When they list original parts as if they are some kind of upgrade...
"Has Showa shocks and a Mikoni carb"
Any mention of panties or ask your mom in the ad.
and then replying with one fucking word to questions!
photos showing dunes
paddle tire is included
monster graphics
the word "bro" in the ad
full rebuild , lost receipts
"Never raced"
"Very fast bike"
And barons
Just needs (fill in the blank) part which is like 30 dollars ,not a hard job to do.

Having just bought a used 22 yz450 about 3 weeks ago… I’m gonna say “senior owned” is now a massive red flag for me. Idk how I fell for that one.
The oil was practically black when I drained it when I got the thing home. The bearings have clearly never been greased. The forks looked good, til I realized he spray painted the bottom lugs to match oem to look fresh. Same with the clutch cover. Spray painted to match OEM look, didn’t realize til my first ride when it started coming off. The bike looked clean and relatively well taken care of when I got it, I can tell now it was all masked.
“My loss your gain”
“Goes hard”
”not raced”
Used to run well
port and polish (or worse, port a polish)
just testing the market
pictures of the guy riding it
good tires (dry rot, missing knobbies)
Foldable levers
reason of sale (I don’t give a fuck)
“Only trail ridden”
every single person I know that only rides trails have the most clapped out bikes by far.
feeling like a douche.
We race a lot so when I sell one I put a "new bottom and top end, bearings, clutch and all wear items (chain, sprocket?s, guides, grips, plastics, seat cover, brakes, sometimes rims and spokes)." I thought people would appreciate that but I've seen a lot of people on the thread don't?
When they talk about it being faster than a bike that is clearly going to be faster than it.
"Murders my friends 450" when talking about a 125.
and
"never raced"
My 06 yz250 I sold I saw it forsale bybl the guy who bought it from me. 6 months later. Only changes he did was blue plastic and graphics and seat cover.
Powered coated the rims blue the hubs shock body triple clamps. Some tan bronze color swapped grips.
The rest of my old parts like the works connection guards and asv levers. Had it all listed with prices like he added them. Levers were worn n floppy. Guards they were well used 15 year old stuff.
Did nothing else to it, it the was as i sold it just more hours. bike had over 300 hrs on it when I sold it needed a rebuild. Listed it for double what I did.
Although there’s a lot of good humor in this thread, you bring up a solid point. I explore any buyer/seller as much as possible on social media before my initial reply to them. Lot of shady folks out there.
“Stage” anything…
”stage 2 jet kit”
”stage 4 porting”
…etc. not sure why this bs became so popular, but it’s everywhere. Trucks, street bikes, transmissions…like there is some form of standard “stage” mod levels.
