What kind of forks are on it? Those look like Honda fork guards. Do they have WP like the other KTM's or did they go with something different?  I know the CR fork guards fit onto the older KTM forks. The bikes from around 2010 that had the full wrap around guards that You had to cut off or take the forks out of the triple clamps. So could be older WP stuff.  Is it supposed to be a less expensive option? Or what is the idea behind selling an old KTM again?

Built in Ohio?  Or assembled in Ohio from a crate shipped from China?

Oh boy.  As much as I admire this cat's desire to revive the iconic name and bring something interesting to the scene, this is a massive swing and miss.  At least it will be with THOSE WHO KNOW.  (Y'know, Vitards.)  Dude should have unleashed this on a different audience.

So he buys the rights to the name.  Check.

Goes on Alibaba and finds a bike that can be somewhat customized through the Asian manufacturer.  Check.

Thinks to himself, "What else can I do to make it seem legit?  I know, a Blackwater sticker.  And if one is good, two is gooder."

This is a Chinese knock off with the commensurate overuse of colored parts and some cut rate graphics.

At least we got to see more than the release of a frame or a motor.

I can't believe the Penton clan would sell their name to put on something like this. 🤔

I do not in any way believe this is approved by the Penton family. This dumbass is way outta line , and I hope the Penton clan serves him up a cease and desist order. Asshole.

Just as I speculated in the other "Penton" thread, a KTM knockoff from Asia.  Not ideal, but I hear some of these bikes are not that bad.  Maybe this one won't be bad.  Other brands have gone this route with the latest using a similar tactic being Fantic (it was basically a Yamaha) until they recently debuted the Minarelli motor for it.  My point for bringing that up is that maybe this is the first step to bring back a real Penton where they develop their own bike over time...Or maybe not. I would wager on "not".

From FB:

Jack Penton

This is in no way connected to John Penton or the Penton family. We do NOT endorse or condone this use of our name.

The Importer is legally responsible the bike meets local standards and regulations, Terry will need good liability insurance!

Fantics were a joint operation between them and Yamaha. Fantics are just Yamahas with white plastics. These are Chinese trash trying to be 8 year old ktm’s.

Agreed, I was not implying that the Fantic was equal to the subject collaboration. I think the odds of success for this joint operation between Penton and (likely) Koshine are pretty low. Nevertheless, it's the same strategy to buy another motorcycle, make some changes (even if only graphics), and sell it as your own which has been done countless times throughout motorcycling history.

Not really. John Penton helped design/develop the bikes that he was importing, so it wasn’t quite the same as rebadging an existing fully built bike.

I’m sure that there are some nuances that are not widely known anymore, but the relationship between Penton and KTM wasn’t strictly rebadging.

Fun fact, some of these fork guards are swappable. Knew a few guys with Hondas that ran the KTM fork guards because they wrapped around the entire lower fork tube.

Yup, I know some KTM guys who ran the CR guards .  R-tech has started to offer  extra coverage fork guards that wrap around for a few models now too.
