I'm a huge Webb fan.      I'll eat my hat if Webb titles, that doesn't include if Jett gets injured.    If Webb were to win due to a Jett injury, I'd call it the same as I call Sextons SX title:  A great big gift.   Read: *.

Jett is going to cruise to another cake title with no real competition.

Just saw this last night , just gutted.

Who knows though. I see the glass half full on this. Chase misses 1 round , he might come back and go on a terror. Also , with seeing so many riders already out of the series, I'm hoping Cooper , AP , Dylan and AC step up their game here.

I don't want to see a runaway this year damn it.

If he has mono/ebv it will be multiple rounds.

Also to the bufoons discounting a concussion I hope that you can educate yourselves on the severity of a simple “concussion” and the possible affects of ignoring/discounting it.  First hand knowledge of it here. My brother had his skull purposely cut open for a few days to allow room for swelling to eliminate brain damage. Back to back concussions a week apart, first being missed diagnosed second being a simple hit to the head.  Thanks for modern medicine/concussion protocols that Chase is being force to sit out. It sucks but we have to be bigger than wanting to see a “race”  over Chase’s health. Don’t be so selfish and/or childish.

Back to the mono finding, means he could’ve been struggling with it at the end of SX, where he finished strong. Kudos to him for his determination. The concussion is a bummer but you gotta think about your full life  and listen to the experts.

It blows my mind that people still do not understand the seriousness of concussions.  I  know people who have to take meds to avoid seizures , I myself notice my short term memory being an issue after having around 7.  And A friend of mine died from a hit to the head. It was a very sad deal. His 3 year old was watching him ride for the first time. And for a while after that the kid thought that anybody who rode a dirtbike was going to go away forever like his dad did. One big hit  can be all it takes. And  when You already have a concussion you are more vulnerable to getting  another or worse. Its a bruise on Your brain. bruises are broken blood vessels. Having internal bleeding on Your brain would be one of the worst things that can happen to you.

Racing with a broken bone ,  You have many options for fixing it before you get to a worst case ,and amputation.  With concussions You risk so much more.  Dr.s bolt bones together all the time. There is no way to fix a brain other than resting and it healing. As far as I know.   Ian Trettel had 1 bad concussion ( as far as I know) that ended his racing and almost more . He had to relearn how to do just about everything.   As much as it sucks that he is sitting out one or who knows how many races, He will be able to be back and 100% again.

Its only been 1 race at a track that Jett rides very well. And Dylan is not gelling with his bike. Maybe Dylan can return to his 2021 form and give Jett something. Bummer for sure about Chase. I was really hoping that this post was not what  it is. I was hoping it was some bad pun or play on words . Glad he is taking the time to make sure he is healthy. How long until people start to say it was Honda benching him so that he did not take the title from Honda to KTM ?? Or maybe people are already saying that.

This is a big blow for the series. There is a very real chance with him leaving Honda that we don't see him again this summer, especially factoring in mononucleosis as stated in the team PR.

This is exactly why Webb got himself on the gate for round 1, he knows he will improve and anything can happen. Don't forget his 2016 250 title was started with a scaphoid that was still healing, he was pretty average then J-Mart got mono and Joey went Joey and Webb won that title rather easily in the end. If Dylan struggles and Jett has any injury issue then Coop and AP are both right there to take this title.

This thread reads like there are a lot of posters on this board who don't know much about concussions and the potential long-term negative effects!

Chases' head hit the ground hard twice (2x) in less than a week and it would be insanity for him to risk hitting it again a 3rd time. There really is no debate on Chase sitting out . . . it's mandatory

Anybody who has had epstein barr virus knows how debilitating it can be.

I call BS on this. Smart move on Chase’s part though. Really no upside to racing the nationals for Chase. I’m sure he’s worn out from the SX series, this gives him time to recover and get ready for the move to KTM and next year.
If true though, what’s this say about Jett’s win if Chase was slightly concussed and had mono and still only finished 1 second behind at the finish!!! How the hell do you run a 35 minute moto at the highest level and only 1 second separates you from winning the OA if you got mono!?
Like I said, smart move on Chase’s part, he wins either way.

So there is not 1 450 rider who has raced every round this year. I wonder how many times that has happened. Paging mr. Fowler

I just remember when champion caliber riders wouldn’t have said shit if they had an injury during the week. They were in it to win it. Chase hits the ground so much and then just rides back to the truck.

was it last year Tomac tweaked his knee in Atlanta and finished the year out for the championship before admitting it? That is what I’m talking about.

And for the other comments, my name is in my profile, not hiding anywhere.

You ar comparing a knee injury to a concussion. I can see medical school is not in your future.

Things got a lot easier for Jett from battling Chase Sexton obviously. But I wouldn't be counting out DF14 just yet. There's also every chance Jett has a bit of drama himself and loses points along the way.

It's certainly disappointing to seemingly lose a title contender early on. But if he misses more than just one day I would put a line through him. But if he only loses 50 points there's a chance Jett and DF throw away points and he can get himself back in it.

Concussion and EBV? I don't see Sexton back before the break. He could be over 150 points down by then.

A traumatic brain injury and a "concussion" are two entirely different things.

The concussion thing is getting a bit exaggerated these days. Either Chase has a seriously debilitating concussion, or mono. The coincidence of having both at the same time is a bit suspect. I think they're leaning on "concussion" because it is perceived as being more serious and a better excuse to sit out a race.

Did you really just say Concussion and TBI are not related, that they are two separate things?? What an abortion of a comment……you can’t be this dumb, can you??

Well maybe you should do some research on the history this sport with your 2023 join date. No one gets to the level of these guys without some injuries or concussions....no one. This isn't golf or tennis. People know damn well what could happen before they sign up for it. We just have a new generation of p*****s that are running rampant crying about everything under the sun. Good lord.

Are you racing Hangtown? You could be there showing them all how hard you are.

I'm definitely not saying Chase is soft. But do you remember when Ezra Lusk broke his arm at a race, got it plated and raced the following weekend? Pepperidge Farms remembers. But that was a different time. One race down and your gonna call it a series sitting out Hangtown? Then they throw in the mono discovery? Hmmmmm?

Broken bone isn't the same as brain injury lol, you can ride in pain with a broken bone it's not going to get much worse, brain injuries are different, if Chase was to go down and hit his head again chances are he would do major long term damage.

But if we want a pissing contest on whos "tougher" what about Jeffery Herlings getting landed on went on to win the race? pretty sure he had a broken shoulder blade.

Here's an Australian football player who has been previous knocked out 9 times, look at what it took for him to get knocked out again, it's fucking frightening, hes number #39.

Travis Pastrana just joined the group chat. These guys all know the risks of racing an f'n dirtbike and this imo is just a reason for Chase and Honda to save face (a poster above already said it). It works for both of them, Chase gets paid to sit out and Honda's new golden boy gets an outdoor title (against what 5 factory riders). I bet Chase won't race a dirtbike again until it's orange. Who the hell gets mono these days. C'mon.

You my friend are a prime example of why concussions need to be taken seriously.

I have never seen you comment with a good take.

Oh..............Laughing  I did not know that (obviously)  When did that change ?  I know when RC won he still ran #4 (At the time I remember being bummed about it because what's the point of a #1 plate if you don't run the dumb thing)  I thought it was the riders choice to run the 1 or their "permanent" number.  Out of the loop again, dang it.

It's been the rule since at least 2012.

Chase seems like he wants to win so badly , it is not a surprise that he would have Mono. He is probable  out training harder and working harder than most of the other guys. I have not really been a fan of his. But seeing how determined he seems to be is growing on me and I am becoming a fan of his. Chase is one of the last guys I would question about sitting out due to an injury. He has taken a lot of hard crashes.  If he's not racing You can bet nobody else would be with whatever he has going on.

It will still be exciting to watch Jett even if he ends up winning easy. There will be others racing for podiums. It kinda opens up the podium a bit. With  Chase and Jett so far out front it might have been those guys  top 2 every race. With Dylan 3rd often  But now there might just be some guys stepping it up a little to fight for that spot on the podium. So the positive thinker in me , thinks that could make for some good battles for 2nd and 3rd  . And I'm sure Jett will have some bad starts, or bad motos here and there. He is improving at such a rapid rate though. So fun to watch. I wish that Eli and chase had been able to be there racing with him. Hope Eli comes back for '24 and is motivated to be at the top again. I'm still excited for the season and how everything works out.

Because he’s not greedy, and probably realizes his body and head needing to heal and recover far outweigh an outdoor championship for the long term.
