Does he have to be such a straight man? He's gotten better at what he does but he's got the ability to say anything because he's the goat. But he's just such a fucking straight man. It sucks. Couldn't he be 20% more aggressive in his delivery With his thoughts and critiques of the riders? A bit of finger-pointing here and there?? Pretty vanilla !

don’t blame him, blame the corporate suites who think they know what’s best (when they don’t)

I’ve never heard the term “straight man” in this context before, strange…

When Hunter went down in the first turn and they were analyzing the replay, Ricky said something to the effect of “he did everything just right.” Seemed that he didn’t to me, but I’m no GOAT.

hes not allowed to be himself and it comes across as incongruent and inauthentic. sorta like the uncanny valley, most people have a negative subconscious reaction to it. normal and natural.

look at his tone and cadence in the Futures race vs. the other races. completely Different (meanwhile Daniel was 100% jazzed up in the futures race).

He seemed pretty straightforward with “Barcia doing Barcia things” Laughing

No, not until the op tells us how he wants to throw glitter in RC’s face and scream at him.

Has nothing to do with what he is "allowed" to do, it's RC worrying about somebody being upset with him.  Stew a couple weeks ago told it exactly as he saw it and will be back for Daytona.  Listen closely next week and it will be clear how bad RC really is when Stew crushes it with only a few races called.

straight man (plural straight men)

(idiomatic) A member (of any gender) of a team of comic performers who plays a supporting role by helping to set up jokes and punch lines through engaging in dialog with another comedian playing a more eccentric or otherwise more interesting character; a foil who plays such a role in theatrical comedy.

I thought you were gonna say why can’t he just say a sentence without starting over.

It’s amazing he’s involved in the sport, he was amazing on the bike, in the booth he’s got some work to do.

You mean he’s got some wood to chop?

Listening to Ricky is hard. It is comical how someone corrected him a year ago, letting him know the difference between someone riding good (wrong) and riding well (correct) and how he has beaten that dead horse relentlessly since.

100% correct. the leadership “experts” have put him under this pressure to fit to their mold, when they would have gotten his best had they given him more freedom. classic mistake that’s ubiquitous to a large portion of corporate leadership mentality.

Vital is off the rails this weekend. Last night it was someone calling everyone a fuck nut in every thread. Today we’re upset about RC being a straight man. This is hilarious. Honorable mention: the hottest dudes in mx thread.

That was a tough lick!

Dudes, he’s not going to be perfect. They didn’t hire him because he was a good commentator, they hired him because he’s the greatest rider of all time and his insight is more valuable than his way with words. Aside from the usual Rickyisms (to your point, must situation, OHHH’s, etc) he’s gotten much better than when he started.

I was watching 2009 Thunder Valley 250 moto 2 the other day (great race) and couldn’t help but notice how Fro would switch immediately from playing the color commentator to calling the actual action on the track, which then left Weege with nothing to say as the play-by-play guy. Nothing against Emig, but some of you guys need to appreciate how far we’ve come with the guys in the booth over the last several years.

RCs "ooohhhhhhh's" crack me up. That's about as as natural and "un" corporate as one can get. If I hear it while getting another beer, I know I'd better get back to the TV for a replay.

RC should watch old replays of when D. Bailey did commentary… and try hard to emulate him. So far RC has not really offered any insight into anything that I can remember…

He brings zero insight because he cannot use his words. He acts as though he starts a sentence, and mid-way through forgot what he was going to say. Anyone with minor knowledge of the sport can explain racing situations better than him.

I think RC has gotten better and more comfortable and he’s going to continue to do so…but how about earlier in the day during the 450 lcq when he said, Kyle Chisholm is smart, he’s not the type of guy that’ll take you and himself out in an lcq….Fredie Noren has something to say about that!Laughing
