Great interview. Love Hannah. He’s a true old school bad ass.
What I’m getting at, is that what’s offensive to some, might not to another and to sit around calling each other pussy gen xer and Boomers is mind numbing and a wasteful use of time. If you didn’t like the word Jap used cool, if you’re ok with it, cool. This is what’s wrong in our society’s today, both sides getting butt hurt over stupidity. Quit giving a fuck about how other think and view things differently and your life will be a lot happier.

For some reason everyone here chooses, not to accept each other regardless of reasons. If you do not fit into someone's paradigm here it is just assumed, you must be an asshole.
Now my grandfather thst fought in ww2 definitely used it in a racist context.
"There is just something about that guy I don't like about myself"
Unless I hear from the trophy chick that she wasn’t happy in that moment, I think it’s best that we all look back with a sense of wonder in the way the word was different then, and that the people who lived in those times had different default values…right wrong or indifferent.
For the term about Japanese, it was obviously used in a derogatory manner while our countries were at war, and that meaning still lingers, but I doubt very highly that bob had ill intent by using it in that manner.
With both of those points aside, he does have an off putting persona - which hopefully is all it is - a persona.
Pit Row
All that said.....man, that was definitely the best interview from WTS and there have been many great shows from Ping.
It's refreshing to see someone like Bob in todays candy-ass society. Can he be an ass...sure....is he arrogant...absolutely. None of that bothers me one bit. Despite his gruff demeanor, he seems pretty likeable to me.
It's always interesting to measure up one of your childhood heroes after you've become an adult.....Bob does not disappoint. I like him for the same reasons I idolized him as a kid
Thanks Ping, GL and of course Mr Hannah for making this happen.
-about the change from Yamaha to Honda
-how was it to ride the HRC bike for the first time (details)
- had he not been injured, what did he think he could have accomplished (honestly) against the new crop of riders
- why didn’t you like Rick Johnson
- talk about your first discussions with Suzuki, and your initial riding session on the RM (details - track that day, that week, mentally what were you going through)
- were you surprised at your MXDN performance in 1987
- what was it like knowing you were this sudden revelation in the sport, becoming famous, all the attention, etc.
I could go on.
you don’t want guys telling stories. you want them telling the minute details they don’t know to tell until you ask them.
Yes, he could be a lil more PC in a podcast, but its Hannah, you know there will be some bombs, so maybe listen with caution.
Boxers talk about the old pros, but in MX it’s like the older generation was a ghost. those guys made it possible for these guys to do what they do! they were the first to pioneer what could be done on modem machinery. it’s easy to go into space now. Imagine being one of the 60’s astronauts.
