I don’t totally remember, we sent RC, Ferry, and Ryno all on open bikes (except Rick on a 250 smoker).

I agree. DV is the man but I disagree here. Eli and Chase should be on their 450s. It's insane to take your 2 best 450 riders off of the bikes that they've been racing and testing (and winning) on.

For as much as we talk/hear about bike set-ups and riders trying to get comfortable on their machines in a season, it's crazy to me that people can think it's a good idea to take your top rider off of his bike and put him on a 250, which he hasn't ridden in like 10 years. I can't follow the logic. Same reason I would take Craig over Barcia. The tie-breaker for me is Craig raced on won on a 250 this year (I don't care if it was SX.) Barcia, it's been quite a long time. So what Barcia did on a 250 8 years ago is somewhat irrelevant now (since he hasn't ridden one since.) With the short time window to test I leave Eli and Chase on their 450 and put CC on 250. Just my logic but I'm just some random who doesn't make the decision.

Yes, it matters. It certainly mattered when the U.S.A. was winning. Then -- POOF -- just like a magic trick, when the GP riders honed their skills, rode on any and every condition, and starting kicking ass and the U.S.A. team starting losing circa 2012...well then some said it didn't matter.

GP riders stepped it up and now it's time for U.S. riders to try to do the same.

I was all about sending Eli on a 250 a couple weeks ago, but that's only because we had 2 other 450 guys that were killing it. Anderson hasn't been himself lately, so that throws a wrench in everything.

I wish this year they could wait until the end of the season to decide on the team because at this point I'd like to see how JMart looks at the last 2 rounds.

Think about the scores the team could put up.
Chase and Eli on 450’s could probably go 1-2-1-1, the 250 guy would probably need at least a 7th.

Let’s say it was Chase and Craig, moto scores might be 1-1 (Chase) 6-7 (Craig) with Tomac 250 scores maybe around 5th (say 5-5). So drop Craig’s 7th and your taking 1-1-5-5-6 for a score of 18 which might be tough to win with?
I think the best bet is to keep Eli and Chase on 450 to put up 4 low scores and then hope whoever is on 250 can put up one good moto finish.

This right here. Plus we have seen that Eli needs to be comfortable to win. First outdoors of the year he wasn't comfortable and was struggling. How is putting him on a different bike going to get him to gel right away? DV just wants people to be talking about him again since DF14 hasn't been around all year.

If Anderson wasn't already out of the picture I could see pulling this off. I'd love to see Eli ride the guts out of a Star 250. That being said I think the best bet is Eli and Chase 450 and assuming he progresses some more in the coming weeks with no big setbacks you have to choose Justin Cooper if nothing else for his starting prowess. If Eli and Chase do their thing on the 450's we only need Cooper to pull one great start and hang for 30 +2 which he is more than capable of.

Would he need to use the clutch less to control his speed on a 250? Isn’t that why he’s had clutch problems a few times over the last several years, pin the throttle and use the clutch to reduce thrust? Maybe he wouldn’t have to ‘slow’ himself as much on the 250…..

I’m just glad to hear DV calling out the Barcia/250 idea, I’ve been thinking the same thing all along. Yeah, dude lived on the rev limiter in the 250 days, but revs don’t equate to speed and he’s been nowhere near the front at the end of these motos this year.

I understand his reasoning for putting Tomac on a 250 since its the weakest link. But he's the fastest guy on a 450 right now. You need your best rider on his winning equipment. Anderson is out. Craig would probably be the best choice over Barcia. But I would think Barcia would do just about as good as long as he doesn't blow the bike up. He has good history at Red Bud.
