For most riders and tracks this is probably not an issue but like every other bike it's not going to suit everyone.
You fly a dude all the way over there, to post a shit edit like that and call it a day. I really don’t get it.
I'm actually glad the sx\mx (4-stroke) sound will be gone!
All that bravado to grab a handfull is a lot easier when it's another object controlled by joystick versus when it's you in the cockpit choosing to hurdle that 50 footer.
I would guess an average B/C MX rider spends less than 5% of their time at full throttle. Probably a bit more than a Tesla (maybe 2% of the time for an aggressive driver), but somewhat close to the use profile. I would bet a B/C equivalent RC driver is probably at full throttle 60% or more of the time, which would be patently insane for most dirt bike riders.
Pit Row
And you are reacting like I’m calling the bike crap and that it will ruin the sport or something, which couldn’t be further from the truth. Simmer down bro…
After reading and watching the opinions from the beginning of this Stark thing, I have come to the conclusion that this thing, like every other dirt bike of it's time, is MORE than enough for the 99% of us ham and eggers. I'm thrilled to have another player in the industry, and I hope Triumph brings another viable option. I love the fact that I could ride the Stark on a small piece of property with my buddies and not bother a soul, as we take frequent breaks and pretend that we were really on the gas.....
I'm not riding Lommel, but I would sure love to make the trip to watch Herlings work his magic. The Stark will be gas to ride (see what I did there?), and I am quite confident that I will not be left stranded at the far end of the track because I ran out of charge. I put a deposit on one and I intend to follow through based on everything I have seen. Pass the koolaid and my extension cord. Looks like a blast. From a 1975 Suzuki TM100 to this bad boy-cool beans.
That’s like saying I can’t use my ktm 300 tpi when I dual sport ride in Colorado because it doesn’t have the fuel range or the top end speed my Husqvarna 501 has.
Well it would still do the job, just not as well as my 501, so I ride my 501 there.
Same reason I hard enduro ride my ktm 300 and not my Husqvarna 501.
Same reason I MX my crf250r and not the other bikes I just mentioned. It’s what it’s built for.
There is a tool built for every job for a reason.
And I don’t think from what I can tell that Stark built theirs for your application. But what it was built for, it appears it will work well.
But even so, if you do hard enduro and everyone is over the moon about the new husky 501, and how it’s the best thing ever…and you say it looks like an awesome bike, one day you’d like to own one, but you wouldn’t buy one now because you do hard enduro, and someone starts claiming you said the 501 is trash, and that you need to have more blind faith, and buy it as a badge of honor…wouldn’t you think they were kind of crazy, and try and explain yourself?
I like going to practice, seeing who is putting in a heater and pointing it out to my friends. Watching a guy eye up a new rhythm and again pointing it out.
My most recent supercross, was my wife and kids going for the first time (they aren’t heavy into Moto). Sure would have been nice to point out what’s happening or explain the flags, but that ain’t happening in today’s Moto.
Growing the sport by having new people not be able to hear a damn thing is not the way.
When I was a kid, I used to put a gas can in a back pack because I wanted more RANGE.
I'm not just speculating here. I've got more technical knowledge about electric motorcycles than 99% of the folks on this site. But I too wanted to believe that the future was here when the Alta was released despite of what my education (engineering and physics) and practical experience dictated. If the future is here AGAIN, it's going to be limited to a very narrow scope of operation.
The industry needs a major breakthrough in battery cell technology before the future will actually arrive. It's fine in certain applications (automotive) where the car can weigh 6000 lbs and have powered accessories to actively cool the battery pack(s), onboard chargers, etc. But it'll be another 5 years before you see an electric bike line up at a National.
Anyway, just one man's opinion.
Note: The Alta podium'd pro Endurocross where they were allowed to compete.
