Not free, you pay that hefty DirecTV bill each and every month.
Nope...It was on my Spectrum cable...That my wife recently got discounted $90.00 per month bundled for phone, tv, internet. when she called and bitched about the recent price increases...

In the past few years I've "wasted" a lot of Saturday afternoons by sitting down and watching all four motos rather than doing other things. This might be the year of the replay for me. I wasn't able to even try to watch live this past Saturday and from the sounds of it I am really glad I didn't suffer through the frustration.

Worst moto coverage I've ever seen in my life. I unsubscribed from MAVTV before the 2nd motos even started. That should tell you everything about that dumpster fire network. We PAY MONEY to watch LIVE racing. NOT for ads and features during the racing and never go back to watch what everyone missed. Its the biggest money grab in MOTO.
Except... I just logged in to my Mavtv Plus one year premium subscription on the computer at work, to play the replay, and the 250 1st moto is the only race available for replay. WTF did I pay for?

... and a non-clickable, nearly invisible link to copy/paste to find the rest...

This MavTV app really sucks, it only has archives of races back to 2014.

You watch a F1 or MotoGP race and get spoiled with how good and technologically advanced a racing production CAN BE when done correctly.

Then we get hit this absolute steaming pile of a production that costs $99 per year. Garbage.

But priorities though....they for sure had their commercials, promos, and corporate rider segments nailed down. Cuz who actually cares about the racing?

Like night and day in difference. Makes it difficult to watch AMA in comparison.

Forget the technical issues, YouTube worked great. But the product DC and Lucas Oil put out was not good.

Seriously guys, if you watch it on replay there’s no commercials, no freezing, you can skip the human interest features etc. yeah it’s not perfect but it is a better experience, at least for this past round

Must have been watching last year's Pala race on Peacock Premium.

Every one bitching about commercials when being paid,, TV providers have always done it. So what's new about that?

No man, I'm usually on that side as well when people complain, but this was different.
Even without the commercials, there was a conscious decision to play features DURING the races.
Streaming issues like quality and bandwidth are understandable on the first event. Running commercials during a pay-to-view event is ridiculous, then further shortening the actual live racing coverage by putting features on is unacceptable.
I'm not hanging DC out to dry either, I think he'll invoke whatever power he has to fix it. Why would he come on here and say anything? Either everyone will praise him for what he's already done, or call him a liar if he says it will be fixed and he didn't know exactly what the broadcast would be.
It's a lose lose for him.
Bro….you can’t be in here talking that kinda logic

Because on network TV or cable, the channel is paid by the service provider a certain amount, let’s say $2.99 per person who has that ‘Package’….then the channel must subsidize the rest of their income through adds to have an effective billing rate of….oh….like $6.99 per customer/month.

If the channel is charging the total effective billing rate direct to the customer, than one can surmise that no further subsidization through adds would be needed….

That’s literally the whole point of paying them direct.

Anyone found the broadcast footage of how Shimoda ended up passing 2-3 guys at the end of moto 1? I’d say the same for the Mcadoo crash but in fairness that may have just been while I was watching the official, paid for stream I purchased and it went to commercial, before I was able to find the free one which hadn’t cut to ads.

No, it has not. Cable tv was originally commercial-free. That was part of the concept of the pay-for-play plan. Maybe you're too young to remember that.

Really it was? Haha Too young to remember? I’m so old I can’t remember I’m the 2nd gate drop.

I don't know what you're arguing about on the TV side, but that 💩 is funny. I can remember being an intermediate and going on the first gate, looking over and seeing a pro and thinking "ohhhhhh shiiiiiiiiii....." 😂
Also, I'm 40 and don't really remember cable bring commercial free either....

People are missing the point. The problem is NOT the technical difficulties and resulting commercials. That is easily fixed.

The problem IS the production. The cameos and promos shown DURING THE RACE. It happens over and over again. Also the inability to read the timing screen, to see where the action is and give it some coverage. Much like supercross, the production team wants to tell a story - coverage of the race is secondary.

The production is compromised because of the cable broadcast that reaches the casual fan. If it was subscription only you wouldn't have to worry about pandering to new viewers stumbling across it, like the motogp stream.

What casual fan? Watch other Motorsports and you get a different vibe. We are the only ones who continue to do the same production year after year. Cater to those who actually watch the show and understand that the racing is what draws people in. Not the dumb stories or pandering to the “new” audience.

Then what is the point of even worrying about having it on a TV channel?

I'm on team racing. I don't even watch any of the other crap on the mx or sx broadcast. The streaming option is a godsend, I watch it when I want, where I want and don't have a monthly cable bill except for the line bringing the internet to my house which is used for way more than watching races.

MAVTV posted a commercial free version of the races in the archive of their app. Hopefully they work out the issues and get that going live this week. It sucks that moto has gone to this second rate TV channel, but MX/SX has been through FOX, NBC, ESPN, OLN, SPEED and they none of them have been chomping to get it back it seems. NBC saw exactly how many streams MX/SX has gotten the past couple years, I wonder if they were impressed?

Correct me if im wrong, but reading their responses it seems like they somehow are surprised, or at least not prepared for such backlash. Interesting stuff. Like, i understand technical issues - shit happens. But to start talking to their sponsors now to find a compromise? Hmm, no one at mav thought there would be a potential shit storm if they ran ads on a paid service?

Also interesting how NBC Gold worked so well for years. SX used to be the weirdo service (for international viewers) but the Nationals always had a rock solid service. It's a bummer for sure, first season in a decade i won't be a subscriber.

PS. Yes its probably better than cycle news. Why anyone would settle for that answer beats me though.

I grew up with a “why go see it when you can watch it on tv” dad. Bet your ass when I turned 16 and could drive I was all over the place going to races and damn was he wrong. Sure you can see more of the racing (unless it’s Mavtv) but nothing beats being there. I’d rather watch Tomac roost me with dirt with the 50 yards of track I can see, instead of being on my couch.

I never fully appreciated MXGP-TV until the Sunday after Pala, but I've made the (duh!) conclusion that MAVTVplus is made for a different audience than MXGP-TV

MXGP-TV is made for enthusiasts; it is not trying to grow the sport via media and commercials. Even the brief 15 second commercial when logging on is a moto commercial; not an energy drink or extreme sports corporate commercial trying to bring in the masses. It is priced high (relative to media generalists Peacock or MAVTV), but delivers high value content.

US MX/SX media coverage is geared towards casual fans who are interested in motosports or extreme sports, is offered at a lower price but with either commercials or infomercials. It used to be more geared towards enthusiasts, but has drifted over to the generalized "grow the sport" message where the legends of the sport need to be introduced and whoops explained as being more difficult than flat ground.

I am hoping to a return to sanity this next weekend for MAVTVplus. Thankfully I'll be at Hangtown and don't need to worry.
