Then we get hit this absolute steaming pile of a production that costs $99 per year. Garbage.
But priorities though....they for sure had their commercials, promos, and corporate rider segments nailed down. Cuz who actually cares about the racing?
If the channel is charging the total effective billing rate direct to the customer, than one can surmise that no further subsidization through adds would be needed….
That’s literally the whole point of paying them direct.
Pit Row
Also, I'm 40 and don't really remember cable bring commercial free either....
The problem IS the production. The cameos and promos shown DURING THE RACE. It happens over and over again. Also the inability to read the timing screen, to see where the action is and give it some coverage. Much like supercross, the production team wants to tell a story - coverage of the race is secondary.
I'm on team racing. I don't even watch any of the other crap on the mx or sx broadcast. The streaming option is a godsend, I watch it when I want, where I want and don't have a monthly cable bill except for the line bringing the internet to my house which is used for way more than watching races.
MAVTV posted a commercial free version of the races in the archive of their app. Hopefully they work out the issues and get that going live this week. It sucks that moto has gone to this second rate TV channel, but MX/SX has been through FOX, NBC, ESPN, OLN, SPEED and they none of them have been chomping to get it back it seems. NBC saw exactly how many streams MX/SX has gotten the past couple years, I wonder if they were impressed?
Also interesting how NBC Gold worked so well for years. SX used to be the weirdo service (for international viewers) but the Nationals always had a rock solid service. It's a bummer for sure, first season in a decade i won't be a subscriber.
PS. Yes its probably better than cycle news. Why anyone would settle for that answer beats me though.
MXGP-TV is made for enthusiasts; it is not trying to grow the sport via media and commercials. Even the brief 15 second commercial when logging on is a moto commercial; not an energy drink or extreme sports corporate commercial trying to bring in the masses. It is priced high (relative to media generalists Peacock or MAVTV), but delivers high value content.
US MX/SX media coverage is geared towards casual fans who are interested in motosports or extreme sports, is offered at a lower price but with either commercials or infomercials. It used to be more geared towards enthusiasts, but has drifted over to the generalized "grow the sport" message where the legends of the sport need to be introduced and whoops explained as being more difficult than flat ground.
I am hoping to a return to sanity this next weekend for MAVTVplus. Thankfully I'll be at Hangtown and don't need to worry.
