Why didnt Tomac go to KTM?

Edited Date/Time 3/21/2022 8:18am
everyone on vital wanted Tomac to go to KTM, thats where he could show his potential on the best bike with Roger Decoster. I guess its a good thing he didnt.

Not sure it is the best bike, especially this year. Plus Star let’s him change whatever he wants. And he wanted KYB suspension.

Something tells me if he actually wanted to be on that bike, he would have been.

Seems like it was more about suspension/ chassis than colour of the bike. Knew what he wanted, smart guy.

Most KTM owners are fucked in the head, not just here, at MX tracks across the globe.

You’re all fucked in the head if you don’t think he’d be just as dominant if not more on orange. He just likes his program with his dad so why would he go to a team that wants him to train with Aldon instead?

I just can't see Tomac on any Austrian bike. I don't think the riding style meshes with the bikes, even though I'm sure he could rip it.

I said he should beg to go to KTM back in 2019 when he was struggling at times in supercross.

I dont recall anyone else saying it lately.

Well thankfully nobody of any consequence makes their professional decisions based on the boys on this forum.

Can't blame anyone for doubting a chassis that has never ever won a SX championship can you?

Um, not to throw a wrench in all your spokes, but if you listened to the recent interview with John Tomac, you'd know. There's a suspension guy nicknamed "Gilly" that now works at Star. He once worked at Kawasaki with Eli, and before that at Geico with Eli. To Eli, this guy is a Merlin-like wizard with suspension and chassis setup. When Kawasaki canned him, it broke Eli's heart. It was only a matter of time before they got back together, and now that they have, the results speak for themselves. Eli appears genuinely joyous, and almost seems to toy with his competition.

What we'll never know, is how dominant he would have been on the green bike if they just hadn't fired that Gilly guy. The mind fairly spins at how dominant he COULD have been and what Kawasaki COULD have had.

Ah, the corporate world.

PPG would like to clarify that Eli actually loves painting frames and just painting, in general. Tomac's hobbies include painting, drinking Monster, and lubing Yamas.

Monster and Gilly are the two reasons he is where he is. KTM was never a thought.

Pretty sure there was a meeting with ktm and one the big bosses from ktm Robert Jonas at Dallas last year. And monster was a big reason why bc Redbull wouldn’t match what monster pays.

I agree. As hard as tomac hits everything, the ktm forks would probably snap off on the rollers

This. Red Bull, Rock Star and Monster seem to control where the riders go now these days.

Listen to Matthes interview with John Tomac 2 shows ago. Lotta answers to your questions there.

Because Tomac doesn't give a fuck what vital wants maybe? He may not even know this place exists.

Weird question to ask when he is winning the championship and looking ultra comfy.

I'm pretty sure nearly every team had a spot available for Tomac.
