yes I do. What I dont know are the parts diagrams for modern 4 strokes as I'm an old 2T guy, so no need to be a dick. I've seen plenty of burnouts but had never seen one shooting that much steam directly out of the engine. Thus my post. I figured that bike was on its last leg post burn-out.

If you have a fresh motor for every race like these guys do, it's a wash at best.

Long term like regular people ride them, 2T lasts much longer.

No they do not. Typical wear and tear two strokes do not last longer, they are just cheaper to replace items with and easier to rebuild.

Ask JA21 if he agrees with your statement. Dude had to limp his bike to the finish earlier this season because of said clutch 🤣

Clutch abuse amounts to high engine revs and a high generation of heat.

As much steam as it was bellowing in the burnout I don’t think it was close to giving up the ghost in the race.

Yamaha has always been a very dependable bike. Yes the 10'-13' bike was a turd but still very bulletproof. I did love the ergos of the 10'-13' 250f just wasn't efi but the wr450 with those ergos, non-reverse motor and EFI was an underrated thing of beauty, not talked about enough.

Grew up on Yamahas. Some of the most durable engines bar none. Overall bike as well. Might not win all the magazine shootouts. But one thing Yamaha is good for is build quality.

I think they've been doing alright in the magazine shootouts for the last 4 years... Except MXA

Everyone says that about the 10-13 yz450f, but it did get 2nd overall in 2011.

Steam not smoke. Hose didn’t let go, the engine was hot and venting excess pressure. As long as there was steam, engine was fine.
I know the whole ‘….as long as there’s still steam…’ thing seems to be the trendy to say; the commentators say it all the time, but I’ve seen lots of engine components fail due to overheating while there’s still coolant in the system.

It’s a risky business keeping an overheated engine loaded up like Tomac was. Of course the risk is worth it with only a few laps left, but you can’t just simply say it’s going to be fine because there’s still steam.

I’m curious if there is an oil cooler on the Yamaha like the Kawi. Wasn’t the purpose of the Kawi cooler to mitigate Eli’s heavy clutch abuse and heat generated?

I Wonder if they had the electric water pump set up on there if it would hold up better if sand/mud loaded the louvers up 🤷🏼‍♂️ Maybe we’ll see one on there soon??

You could do it too- just hold the clutch in and hold the throttle wide!

Which is effectively what Eli is doing. If he didnt abuse the clutch and monitored his speed with the throttle instead, the bike wouldn't get so hot.

Dont misunderstand me- Im not telling Eli how to ride, im simply stating fact about how heavy use of the clutch contributes to heat build up.

Eli can ride exactly how he wants all the time Yamaha are confident they can keep the bike running.
If things escalate and the risk of DNF's are real, then it is likely the team would ask him to dial it back a notch. But like all things, constant development should see the problem get better with time.
