Times are not tough if you have a motocross bike or side x side, boat etc etc in the garage. Gas might get more expensive but if you can afford to ride then it shouldn't be a deal breaker just a minor inconvenience and with the amount of jobs out there you could always get a part time gig to help finance your riding. You know things are bad when the garages are empty and no toys, then its time to bitch. Cool
Plans can still change without bitching, Mutually exclusive

If you work for a business or yourself, it doesn’t matter. Now is the time to raise your prices. You should be angling for a 10-20 percent raise on any rate you do work for.

If your job won’t pay you more, find an employer that will. Inflation isn’t stopping for another few years, you have to get out in front or it’s going to drown people.

Most Vital polls aren't well thought out, but this would be a good poll. I plan on cutting back elsewhere and delaying spending on non-essentials. These crunches make you realize where your priorities are. I finally got back to riding after a couple years of surgery and have been having a blast.

My local is £1.60 per litre which works out close to $10 per gallon and thats a relatively cheap price in the uk currently compared to some areas that are close to £1.90 per litre.
Problem is most of our states are larger than where you live.

It’ll impact me not just because it’ll cost a bit more to go to the track, but because total fuel expense for all purposes (work, other travel, etc) is going to cut into disposable income

I’ve put 22k on my box van in 10 months and only drive it to ride and race. Will likely be over 25k for the year, I’m scared to do the math on that for $5/gal or more. Looks like no more eating out or hotels while on the road.

What difference does that make??
Most of you guys drive big trucks with big engines that have stupidly poor mpg. i think thats a bigger problem, not the size of your states 😂

It,s a great time to purchase a gas hog tho. G20 vans stock r pretty bad. I,ve added a few bolt ons like alum under drive pulley kit, 2 tbi spacers, port the intake, hotter coil , turbo muffler, playing with the timing is huge. I got 29mpg on a 35 mph windy day keeping up with traffic driving 75 mph. Air up the tires also. At Chicago trk yard now , crazy as always.

I'm at $500 a month just to drive to work and back everyday at $5.25 a gallon. Will be asking to work from home 3 days a week starting next week.

I will complain about it, but it will not change my riding habits. Current average in PA...Unleaded $3.79, Diesel $4.34,
VP C12 $80/5 gal.

I’m feeling the effects of increasing gas prices already as I get ready to pull my toy hauler from Chattanooga, TN to Orlando (9 hour drive).

Food for thought: My Transit when loaded CAN get 18-20mpg if I chill out and take it easy...

But, I usually get 15-16 when loaded...which is all based on my right foot! Grinning

I hope this helps you decide to go ride and enjoy your vacay.

Manny
I've got a Ram 1500 that I can get over 20MPG if I drive with a feather foot while loaded. But with two bikes, gear, a chick and a heavy foot through the middle of the country I'm looking more like 15-16MPG and at roughly 3600 miles for the total trip looking like about $1k in fuel.

Certainly not life changing money, but still a pretty penny. Luckily my work schedule is flexible, so I can wait it out and see where it goes. $4.75/gallon is my breaking point haha.

i just filled up in sweden for 23 sek/L. its about 2,4$/litre, not sure what that gives in gallon. they think the prices will reach 25-28 sek/L soon with our taxes that increases the prices alot when oil price goes up.

Gas prices are obviously high and given what's going on with oil and gas futures this week on the back of Ukraine, they are heading higher (possibly significantly higher in the coming days and weeks). Just curious if this has anyone re-thinking their moto plans this year? Less travel which means attending fewer races, less practice, etc? The moto scene has been really strong for a couple of years now. Could gas prices start to reverse this?
Wont affect my moto plans but most likely will impact my boating plans. More time anchored in a cove, and less time out ripping around.

Learned lessons from 2008-10. I remember that year the all the cool kids had a Toy Hauler, new bikes and some golf cart or pit bike thing. I used to think those were the ones that had money, but not the case just financed to the max. My wife and I had our 10 year old trailer and 1992 Class C camper. Come 2010 when the economy went to shit the cool kids lost a lot and were either showing up in an old pickup truck or done racing. We were close but got lucky neither one of us lost our jobs, it was scary. Now my wife and I still have the same camper and trailer, new bikes of course lol, but moto is what we do. We are extremely fortunate that we can live below our means so we dont have to sacrifice moto, albeit we may give up other stuff make up for the extra cost. So no we wont stop. I even went so far to put a trailer hitch on my Subaru Impreza so during the week I dont use the truck and save on gas.
Just sucks thats people have to give up something they love in a situation like this.

I am just saying you can cover most of the country on a tank of gas. I drive a 1.5 liter scion xb and a 2000 s10.

Costs me $134 to fill my f150 right now. Probably wont do much riding as driving to the track and back will cost me $60 plus the $30 to ride. Well, not even factoring in gas for the bike either……

I dont mean to get political but we need to go back to being energy independent. All of this could have been avoided if we werent relying on russia so much.

If your track is 75 miles away and your truck gets 15mpg, then you will use 10 gallons of gas (round trip) to go ride.

At $4/gallon, that's $40.
At $5/gallon, that's $50.
At $7/gallon, that's $70.

So if gas went crazy up to $7/gallon, you are talking about $30 extra compared to the price of gas (about $4 in So Cal) a year ago.

Doesn't seem substantial when you put it that way.

But...if the price of gas goes to $7/gallon that is going to greatly affect the cost of all of our every day goods, life in general will be considerably more expensive. This is going to lead to less disposable income for most folks = less riding.

Yeah, I think people see high prices at the pump without doing the math of what the real magnitude of the difference is. It's usually not as bad as it seems.

I average driving about 15,000 miles per year in my truck at 15mpg. So that's 1,000 gallons/year.

So my annual gas cost at various pump prices:

$3/gallon = $3,000 = $250/mo
$4/gallon = $4,000 = $333
$5/gallon = $5,000 = $416

Yeah, I prefer the lower prices. But the price I'm paying now is only about $166 more per month than I was paying two years ago when gas was really cheap during early days of COVID.
$166/month x 12 = $1992/year more. Spending $2k more per year for the same identical product blows. $166/month more in the old IRA would be better...

It is also not just fuel prices, but everything else. You check tire pricing lately?

Unless I’m wrong , Canada by far is America’s #1 fuel supplier.

Governments on both sides of the border here love it. More tax money in the ole coffers.

Canada is the #1 importer. But USA uses more domestic oil than it gets from Canada.

Also, I believe USA exports more oil than it imports.
