What an absolutely superb race- Never seen that one before and follow I alot of the old stuff! Super stuff!

Man- the speed they were hitting some of those bumps on those old bikes- amazing really.

Remember also Dave Bickers son, Paul, he was fast in like the mid 80's, think he had an exotic Mugen or maybe kit back in the day.
Also remember Vic Eastwood's lads- Mark and Scott. Raced them both a few times- similar regions.
Mark got very fast as he grew up, becoming a serious quick GP rider and contender.

Those Vic Eastwood Hagon framed bikes were very cool and exotic from back in the day, love these ex. riders with resources and shops who would mod bikes to their own specs back then!

I restored a 61 Greeves 250 MCS Dave Bickers replica. About 5 or 6 years ago I took it to the annual Steve McQueen motorcycle and car show. I guy comes up and asked me “You know why I like this bike” I said no why, he said “because my dad was Dave Bickers”. I couldn’t believe it. What were the chances. Paul gave his card for the family stunt business his dad started. It was pretty cool. He was pretty moved that someone in America even knew who is dad was.

This pic has always caught my eye, as it looks like the class is filled with men who spent as much time on the bench press as on the track. Today's racers pursue a different type of fitness. And, of course, there's no water on the track.

Sorry, no credit for the pic...

Wow how cool is that and what a beautiful bike!
Yes- I think I maybe raced against Paul a couple of times, like 1983-84- think he beat me...both times.. Smile he had a trick Mugen seem to recall.
He was getting quick like around the mid- 1980's... memory is foggy but think he may have had a bad leg break possibly that stopped him progressing further? Not sure but think it may have been injuries that stopped his progress. Not sure if he got into the top 40 here- like the National Championship back then. He was fast though, as his Dad was for sure.

Man- also you would think more people would know of Dave Bickers! Was as fast as you like- as the video shows.

Maybe though Dave did go abit under the radar though and did not get the recognition he should have achieved.

It's a Great picture as an example of pure focus and determination!

Thanks for the I.D. as Bickers - I couldn't work it out.

My dad was in the Air Force and was stationed in England from 1960 - 62. I was only 5 but I remember going to my first MX races over there. That’s where I new I wanted to ride dirt bikes. During that time Dave was the man and most of any starting line were Greeves. I’ve always had a warm spot for those bikes.

You look up any old photos or movies from the early to mid 60s and it’s all Dave Bickers. He won the 60 & 61 European 250 Championship before it was called the World Championship. After 62 he wanted to stay closer to home otherwise I think he could of won a couple more. But he did well in a lot races after that for many years. He was one of the Europeans to come to America with Hallman, DeCoster, Roberts etc. to show Americans what MX was in the late 60s. I got his signature on the front number plate f my Greeves about a year before he passed.

Brian Stonebridge also was classified as abit of a legend also- but abit older than Dave. Very sad that he passed away in the road accident way back then.
This video is very good- think it may have been posted on here before, where I first saw it but has to be good to include given the super Greeves stuff in the thread.

Yes Brian was the one who made Greeves in the beginning. His life ended way to soon.

Yes the Greeves story and history is very cool- you are knowledgeable of it! They did though export alot of bikes to the States back in the day- there again alot of the Brit manufacturers did..... come 1970's ... 'boom ... ¬¬¬!!' and it all disappears... and goes tits up... big time !

Also should be mentioned- your Greeves riding gear- how cool is that- you look like a Greeves works rider from back in the day! Superb! and such a lovely looking bike.

I also got a Goldstar abit like the one in your avatar- a 350cc though- sadly in bits somewhat but has the clubmans engine- abit earlier than your 500cc. I must try and restore it one of these days (years!) ... hahah

Thanks for the compliments. I have a passion for Greeves. It took me a couple years to find all the original parts. When I show it I thought it would be cool to show the period correct riding gear with it. I have a mannequin for it.

When I joined the Air Force in 76, I was talking to my dad a few months later and he said oh by the way I sold the Gold Star for $500. I was devastated. I would of paid him $500 for it. I wish I had it to this day. Gold Stars are worth a lot now in any shape so don’t let that 350 go.

For sure- can imagine your pain in seeing that lovely Goldie being sold....

Me also- similar story. Dad had 2 other DBD34 Gold Stars- sold off through time for money that doesn't bear thinking about now- alongside some of the parts (RRT2 Boxes etc!!) aah... it was years back though, I guess when the values were not so crazy as of now. Dad also had other BSA and Tritons/ Tribsas- all sold off in the 1970's -80's thereabouts.

Me also (like an idiot) 15 years ago sold off the racing GP10 carb for the Goldstar Clubmans 350cc, alongside the racing Lyta tank for peanuts. Luckily though I still kept the whole bike and engine- but really should have kept the GP10 carb and Lyta Tank.
Luckily I kept most of it- got a couple of standard Gearboxes and standard carb still- also I kept some other cool stuff- Super Leggera top fork clamp and other stuff... still pissed though at selling the GP10 racing carb- think sold it for like £100 quid!! Think my 350cc had abit of racing history, albeit very early one, had quite a few special parts.

I remember the day Dad got it- was like 1972, was summer... Dad came home with it and him, my Sister and me (both just young kids) started taking it apart in the back garden to start restoring it! .... We never finished it... hahahUnsure The bike holds alot of memories for me- as your Goldie also did!

Such a shame you not got yours still- but at least you have the Greeves! I can see how Paul Bickers was so impressed with it and understand his and your passion for them! Proper stuff!!

Dave Bickers progressed onto CZ and spent many years campaigning them, eventually becoming the UK importer.

Incredible shot Ted. Sidehack racers are a whole different breed.

I had a good friend who raced professional sidehacks he was quite a character, lived in the Palmdale desert in Acton and had his own track and shop.

I literally stumbled upon it one weekend and we became good friends.
I went out there many weekends, one time he offered me a ride on his Sidehack, the dude was completely nuts! It was one of the most fearful rides I've ever been on as I
had no idea what I was doing and he was going WFO laughing his ass off! Laughing
