Mike alessi crash today?

This exact same thing happened to me at Pala about 6 years ago. I was the guy in front going much slower than the guy behind me who had no clue I was even in his way until it was too late. I ended up in the hospital with a shattered arm.

Having 6 years to reflect on the incident - it was entirely my fault for going slow and drifting into a fast line on the backside of a blind jump. I should have anticipated this and got to the far right sooner but I was tired and not aware of who was coming up behind me at warp speed.

In retrospect, I had no business being on the big track that day and should have stayed on the vet track where I belonged.

Definitely not just a California thing. A since closed track here in Michigan used to mix big bikes with little bikes. Guys on 450s would scream past kids on 50s. Made me a nervous wreck when I’d come up on one.

Blame pie:

65% Rider that got landed on
30% Glen Helen
5% Mike Alessi

Most important thing is I hope the guy is ok other than being sore as a mother effer.

0% Mike Alessi . How can you put any blame on him .
Hahaha I only put any blame on him to keep from getting skewered by the Vitards. I don't put him at fault but ultimately his bike hit the other bike so there has to be something there. If he took a different line, no crash. Not his fault but his bike hit the other guy.

Do we know how "the other guy" is doing?
Is he in the hospital?

Thank you Johnny.
This is about all I am worried about at the moment.
Let's not lose sight of a person and family that is going through a hard time right now.

No one cares about Alessi. Any update on the rider in the hospital at the moment?

I would have hated to be in either one of those guys boots at that moment, hopefully the injured rider is recovering well!
However, I still crack up listening to the guy recording this video when Alessi is getting up and moving, "Alessi's like fuck this, I'm getting out of here!!" LOL!!

Discussed on PULP.... if anyone is interested.

After watching this video this morning, I'm going make some unpopular, but I believe true statements and a conclusion.

When Alessi was finishing the jump prior to the table top, the slow rider was perfectly in view. You can see this in the video above.
The slow rider kept his line. That's what he's supposed to do.
Since the slow rider kept his line, and Alessi could see him well before approaching the jump, it was Alessi's responsibility to go around him.
Alessi approached the jump from the right hand side, and landed on the rider left of center. He drifted a lot.

Whether he drifted intentionally to setup for the next corner and was distracted and didn't notice the slow rider, or he did notice the slow rider, but simply hit something or accidentally drifted, Alessi is responsible for the incident.

Pretty lame that mike blames the injured guy for drifting left when it’s obvious from this video that he could see the other rider and that mike is the one that went from right to left.

I agree The rear angle makes it seem like mike could see him, but short of a GoPro it’s all grassy knoll angles and guessing

I'll pitch in the 17th post inquiring how the injured rider is doing.
How is the guy? Does anyone here know?

In the rear angle, it appears Mike turns his head and focuses his attention on the flagger momentarily to see/confirm the 1/2 way flags. The timing of this attention redirect appears to be unfortunate.

That's about the best explanation of what happened.

The MXA video confirms that Mike drifted left.
Clearly not intentional, but clearly Mike's mistake.
I hope both riders heal up well and quickly.
Praying for them both.

I agree with this. The rider was in the center or left/center of the track the whole time.

Mike had plenty of room to stay far right.

you can really tell who is at fault because of how it shows it

Obviously nobody would do that on purpose. I think Mike either didn't see him till it was too late or maybe thought he was going faster than he was so he didn't change up his line.

Mike definitely saw the guy up ahead, but probably didn't know the 2nd gate was 50+ 125 2-strokes and wasn't expecting the lapped rider to be going so slow in the middle of the track (watch the video again, the guy didn't merge into the main line, he was in the main line the entire time). Mike's been racing long enough at a high level to expect someone riding in the main line to be riding at a decent speed (once again, he probably didn't know the 2nd gate was a class so much slower), so I'm sure it caught him off guard.

Praying for Scott Oltman. Seems strange there hasn't been an update on his condition.

Last I heard he was getting his C collar off? Not sure what that means from a progress stand point
