For someone I never met in person, I considered Joe a dear friend. I "met" him many years ago, most likely through one of the many websites/forums that preceded Vital. We bought and sold parts between us, we exchanged countless emails, and he inspired me and my builds and purchases. I always thought, someday in retirement I would finally meet Joe in my travels, even if I had to drive all the way to Texas (which I wanted to do to see what the master had created). To me, Joe always posted perfect advice. Never once did I ever think, WTF is he thinking.
Most recently, I have been consumed with my life and strayed from staying in touch with Joe other than a few comments on his insightful posts and perhaps one email.
And here is how life kicks us in the ass. Someday never comes.
I am in shock and sad beyond belief.
Joe, I am sorry I never met you in person, may you rest in peace and know that you were respected and admired by many.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Got a call from my daughter yesterday with the horrible news that Joe was gone. Shock isn’t a strong enough word. Unfair isn’t even close enough to a strong enough word. Joe and I met on this forum what seems like forever ago, although we live 2500 miles apart meeting here brought us together as friends and so much to the point that my daughter married Joe’s son. Joe was the kind of guy that we all wish we had in our lives, even though he fueled my Elsinore and Mugen addiction like no other. lol. This isn’t right or fair. Far too young. Rest In Peace sir. Break Pete24 balls for us.
Thanks for the info…Same with most of us, I never met him in person but clearly he left a great impression on all of us. Still can’t process this..

Sucks he wasn’t posting in here over the past several months- feels like we missed out on the last months of his life.

I’d like to pay my respects if the timing lines up (will be in the Houston area next week). Keep us updated..

I may be able to help a little with that. Joe , myself and 3 other's had a 5 man chat group the last couple years. We all spoke with each other almost every day. I still have that chat and most all the pics we all shared. Joe had some awesome ones. It may take me a while to get all the pics saved. And right now I'm extremely under the weather , with fighting this Covid thing myself.

I loved Joe , and he was a dear friend. I will miss him a lot. The past 36 hours , all I thought about was losing him as my friend. Me and the other guys in our little chat group are devastated at the moment. My condolences go out to all his family and friends. He was loved by many.

^^^ I'm trying to recall the joyful moments. We connected way back when he was working with Kenny/TyDog on Joe's epic Pat Richter replica RM125 that eventually ended up in the Fox museum.

I will forever treasure later going through a year or so of Joe, Kenny and I trying to do a group swingarm buy from Karl Landrus with Joe in the lead on "communicating" with Karl. You can imagine Joe's nudging, lol.

And there are a million of those Joe adventures with folks on the board.

Truly heartsick.

This little slice of the internet won't be the same. Joe will always be a part of this place and his legacy will live with us forever.
Really was looking forward to you painting my CL parts. It'll take forever for me to get to that project anyway ...
Say hi to Danny for me.

Rip in Peace Joe ...

Its so sad, Joes passing...
just went to the Gas station and there was a queue, some young kid was packing his basket with crisps and sweets, I said to him, "You got a load of crisps and sweets there mate! Not so good for you¬"- he replied, "Yes I know, but I burn it off because I do motocross!!". Kid was only 11 years old and had a 125cc and was telling me all about his bikes and racing.... we got talking.

Strange rarely meet riders here and the kid was telling me, full of enthusiasm of his bikes and exploits- suddenly I thought of Joe and his passing and kind of choked up badly, whilst chatting to the kid.....

Was like a youngster with life ahead of him and a love of motocross bikes and all the enthusiasm he had- couldn't help thinking of Joe- older but the same or more passion and equal enthusiasm but his life had come to an end as the kids life and passion for bikes was just beginning. Kind of fitting.

RIP in peace Joe and God bless to his family and friends.

I'm shocked. Didn't expect this outcome.

I met Joe online back in the MD days. We shared a passion for old Elsinores and vintage bikes in general.

We sold parts back and forth and I did the same with his brother, Al.

Met him at an AHRMA race at Hardrock in Florida back in 2001 or 2002.. It was a soaker/mudfest day but it didn't matter. We were racing old dirt bikes and having fun. Joe was not only a great restoration person, but a damn fast rider too.

RIP. The world lost a great moto guy. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.Sad

My heart hurts today. It's interesting how you can feel close to certain people without ever having met them. Many spirited conversations in the non-moto. People here that, whether you agree or disagree on a topic, you just enjoy the interaction. You will be missed! I sometimes just don't understand how so many really shitty people just skate through life with minimal problems and then then something like this happens to a good one.
I'm sure you're already helping someone out wherever you are, making friends and sharing some opinions.
God Speed

Want to share a few quick pics of how bad ass my dad is, he will be greatly missed and will leave a gap that can never be filled.

Launching a 100’ triple on his ‘74 CR 250.

Jefferson , one of his favorite races.

Always joked about cleaning all his bikes with a wire brush.

Him and Marty Smith talking about his RC 500!

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

I'm glad to see you posting, Jeff. After you mentioned not feeling well, and needing to get tested in the other thread, I was wondering how you were doing. Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry for the derail.

While this is a really, really sad & emotional time…

When I think of him and his love for 125s? I smile.

Yesterday was a practice/warm up day for Vegas to Reno. I took my beautiful Joe Approved 2007 RM125 and my Dezert CRF450X. The RM was In there ‘just because’; but, after the text I got yesterday, I just unloaded the 125 & rode from Mammoth to Mono Lake and back. Joe would’ve loved it. We all should take a moment and get “a little bit of Joe on” in our daily lives.

Joe, thanks for being my friend and all the history and laughs as we sat and watched the kids race.

Once again…for the second time in these last few weeks…my sincerest condolences to the people of The Great State of Texas.

I never met your dad, but I can tell you that so many people have great respect for him, me included.
For someone I didn't know except on this forum, his passing is affecting me a lot right now. He's one of the good guys.
My condolences to you and your family.
You'll all be in my prayers both now and for the forseeable future.

You're Dad was awesome and this was a perspective from a little ol Motoboard Motodrive/Vital Mx.

His Motorcycles were literally Works of Art and I remember drooling over them and his shop when he had them on display and shared.

I can only imagine in real Life it was much more than that and I knew he had a HUGE Heart when he would tell stories of feeding and taking in stray cats 🐈

He must have been a Great Dad and Father figure to look up to. I know there are no words to ease your pain but he will not be forgotten.

Take care Darrick, this Moto community Luved your Dad and wants you to keep your chin up in these sad times....
That's what the legend "Newman" would want.

i was following the original thread closely thinking that your pops would easily pull through this. I've always read everything he posted and even went back and forth with him about how much he hated his 2001 YZ250F Laughing
Your pops was a class act and he will definitely be missed. Condolences to you and your family and Godspeed to Joe........

Condolences to his family. Like many I never met the man but sure felt a kinship for his love of moto and bikes of years gone by. His knowledge of the men and machines of motocross was impressive and got the impression he was a guy that worked his ass off and enjoyed the fruits of his labour. I always clicked on any thread he either created or commented in. RIP.
