Don't overthink it - OEM piston, gaskets, cam chain, ride on without an issue. Keep the oil fresh - drain it whilst its super hot. I had a customer's motor tighten up due to blocked oil ways in the crankshaft. His oil changes needed more careful monitoring. When I took the crankshaft out & blew air down the end of the crankshaft, it was blocked solid!

I did the top end both on the 21 and 23 at the 50 hour mark, piston was still decent but had not much left, likely 10/15 more hours. Top 5 B class speed, always treated like a queen. Do it if you plan tro keep the bike. I sold both the 21 and 23 around 100 hours, never had issues (not even on the clutches)

OEM is Wossner, hard to go wrong there. I've used a bunch of brands and never had any issues, I'm pretty meticulous with maintenence, though. OE, Pro-X, wiseco and even namura. Pick one you're comfortable with, don't overthink it and let her rip tater chip!

If you're taking the head off, I would always replace the cam chain.

Good info guys. Appreciate it. I’ve always been a Honda/Yamaha guy. How the valves and seats holding up in these things? You guys doing timing chains when you’re doing pistons too? I’m a A class woods guy. Fast woods though, GNCC type stuff.

What are you guys using for replacement top ends in your KX250Fs? How much time you getting out of these things? Picked up a low hour 2023 model. Don’t really want to do a big bore but feel free to share your opinions on them too. Thanks!

I have a gently used, custom IMS Dump Can Stand used for holding IMS Dump Cans. This was custom made and will stand the test of time. It has spikes that allows you to push into the ground so that your dump can wont fall over. Also has a grip for ease of holding during transportation. The new plastic stands on IMS are $150. Get this one for $100 plus shipping.

Haha, no, if it goes anywhere it would likely be back to Coop. I have no real desire to let it go but he’s got some old Indians and I may be up for a trade of the trade is right. It would take real money or a pre1950 Indian or HD trade to entice me.
Thanks for the input. Kinda what I thought, $20k on the starting point side. So hard to know with stuff like this. Funny, years ago posting a factory bike on here woulda had 5 pages of comments. Guess we really needed my boys Pete24 and Newman to keep this place going… miss them every day.
