Your last paragraph is exactly what R.J. talked about. Not a huge fan of Gypsy tales, but at times he has people who are very much worth listening to for the entire interview. His is one of them.

His talent will outride the musical chairs issue. He is a good dude, who is simply passionate and placed it in the wrong areas. Maturation happens and careers blossom. Sounds like Kawi is restructuring the team some so I think everything has been true at certain points. He absolutely wanted to leave, had informal talks with other teams (PRMX, Yamaha, HEP/Suz/Tedder maybe), Kawi in the meantime got Malc as insurance and then started to implement changes to satisfy Chase (which take a while to get done in the corporate world) and in that time Chase realized how limited his options are, and that Kawi is actually changing his team, mechanic etc and they have a new bike, so his latest set of data to make a decision on tells...
