Apparently CARB's emission requirements have made Yamaha decide it's not worth selling them in California anymore.
Not that I really care about quads but this hits a little close to home. Whats to stop them from going after 2 wheels next?
Saw Bert's Mega Mall IG post say they wont sell anymore after their inventory is gone and a quick google search confirmed it.

“Although the 2021 YFZ450R, as with previous model years, received a Certificate of Conformity from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), California phased out the Red Sticker program.”
That Red Sticker Program was intended for off-highway vehicles that did not meet California’s stricter emissions standards. Qualifying vehicles receive a red registration sticker from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
"Senator Jones wrote the bill in an effort to save the off-road vehicle competition industry in California. The CARB Red Sticker program is due to expire in 2021 with no replacement, meaning that public lands would be off-limits to these vehicles starting in 2022. By adding a new program, and increasing regulations to nullify common complaints such as off-road vehicles being too noisy."
"“Peaceful views and quiet are often ruined by these kids on dirt bikes revving up their engines and ruining the hike or picnic or what-have-you for everyone,” said Barbara Schaeffer, whose house is next to public land nearby the Salton Sea in Southern California. “This also means we’ll see less of them and that police can finally do something about the noise.”"
What are the odds these people would be satisfied even if all dirtbikes were electric?

Not everyone. It doesn't ruin it for the millions of people who enjoy off-roading in dwindling areas. Go to one of the millions of acres of wilderness-designated land in California if you want peace and quiet. Odds are pretty good it will be closer for you than a legal riding area will be for me.
EDIT: "Next to public land nearby the Salton Sea" means Ocotillo Wells. If you choose to live next door to an OHRV Park, don't complain about the OHRVs.
Hopefully I am still alive to tell my grand children that I once rode a dirt bike, because they won't.
Sad to see this happen down there. I’m sure some other states won’t be far behind as history has shown.
See the problem?

There's much bigger issues that CA needs to address than EPA and CARB regulations for off-roaders. For instance, go down the rabbit hole that is the largest environmental disaster CA has ever faced, only to be swept under the rug. That's right the Salton Sea itself. That body of water is drying up and fast and if something isn't done about it soon all of Southern California is going to pay the price and we'll be living in a constant virtual salty dustbowl. These people in Sacramento have their heads straight up their...well you know. Priorities.
Don't even get me started on Southern California and what they've done to get water.
Sorry, but I've seen plenty of trash throwers on the ground at MX tracks also. If you don't think guys at the track "yolo" for attention, then that tells me you don't spend much time there. I've seen just as many douchebags at the track than I've seen anywhere else. I've also seen bad campers and good campers. Let's not lump everyone into a flannel/Bud Light crowd. Just another sweeping generalization. Go to Truck Haven where there are hundreds of people camping on New Years, they even build a wood bar to burn and you wouldn't know a soul was out there once everyone has left. Many people out there pack it in and pack it out and yes, there are some bad apples, but most folks clean it out. By the way there are large garbage areas placed in designated spots by BLM and campers do use them. Most every camp I've come across out there has been great people. If you're a regular camper you know the drill, if you aren't, you learn.
"red sticker" bikes are predominantly MX and competition based bikes. Thats what OEMs mean when they say "for closed course competition only".
There are plenty of options out there for bikes that are still compliant for use in CA OHVs - Yamaha WRs, KTM EXCs, Husky FEs, Honda CRF Xs, even Suziki got their shit together enough to offer the RMX 450Z as "green sticker" eligible
"Establish new exhaust and evaporative emissions standards for OHRV starting in 2020."
"California's standards for off-highway motorcycles will be identical to U.S. EPA from 2020 through 2026 for evaporative controls and 2022 through 2027 for exhaust controls. Aligning with federal standards will reduce emissions while helping to ensure adequate model availability while the industry transitions from the red sticker program"
So the YFZ holiday will probably be a 1 year one, while Yamaha waits for the red sticker program to disappear after 2021, and no longer have a CARB-specific model cert
"hey guys, please don't steal our ohv funds for your general fund nonsense"
