He cased a quad and hit head/shoulders first. They didn’t try taking his helmet off and they carted him off.

Damn shame, he was going well and seemed to have a podium shot tonight.
That's one guy I'd like to see have an entire healthy year inc. preseason.

Edit: phantom posted originally, dunno how that happened

I took a closer look at it frame by frame and it doesn't look like he hit his head/neck all that hard, fortunately. He lands directly on his left knee, comes to complete stop and body slams. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a femur like mentioned earlier.

Anyone with a medical background know why they’d lay him on his side on the backboard? They had him lying on his left side, on top of the leg that looks to have taken all the impact.

Let's hope it's just a clean bone break.... something simple for a change. God, I feel terrible for him.

Likely for a position of comfort. Typically everyone gets cervical spine immobilization (ie neck collar, long spine board, although there’s a movement away from the LSB which is whole thread in itself). Side lying is probably to get some relief off his hip? You can also position someone side lying when they have a pneumothorax, but I’ve never seen that applied in an acute trauma patient and doubt they would find that. I ll also say that since I’ve started watching SX and MX the care and management of these guys is unconventional in regards to street medicine. Real world medicine is far to litigious

There's doctors out there too. Nobody's license on the line but theirs. I've done the POC before, especially when someone had no movement or feeling in the legs. Not more than a couple times though.
