If anyone thinks this is an employer decision then you’re kidding yourselves. This is a sport where the individual athletes have a lot of say in what they do. Kawi wouldn’t dare losing either one of them so if they wanted to go then Kawi would be there supporting them.
Ummmm....you're wrong....This is a Bruce Stjerstrom decision...

That’s my point, I don’t think they did any harm at all. Do you actually think anyone, outside of a few butthurts on Vital really care? I would guess most of Kawi’s customers couldn’t care less if they are represented. In fact most of them probably don’t even watch anything outside of supercross.

Does anyone think that KHI, a multi-billion dollar conglomerate, doesn't have some of the brightest business analyst minds and systems in the industry to analyze decades worth of data to see if spending tens of thousands of dollars to send a rider to the MXoN translates to sales? I can guarantee you that if it did, Kawasaki would be sending two riders to this year's MXoN.

It's really easy to sit back and spend other's people money. I'm going to reiterate what I posted in another thread that every USA fan needs to take their patriotic glasses and stop being force fed the national pride propaganda that Youthstream has perfected and realize this is the sports entertainment business. The promoter is making a lot of money and giving peanuts to some of their main attractions of the show.

If you want to be upset with anyone, then direct your anger and frustration to FIM & Youthstream for their pathetic assistance for what many consider the biggest race in the world.

Ok so you proved my point. To be good at sx you need to practice it. If you dont then you cant win.

If that were not the case then anyone from MXGP could ride sx if they were close.
Maybe you missed my point, then. I mean that by racing the MXDN, the riders aren't significantly diminishing their practice time for the SX series. They'll still be ready for A1.
Especially among the riders who are already adept at Supercross (the U.S. - based ones,) missing a week of Supercross testing because they raced an event in Europe will have a negligible impact on their readiness.

Most of Kawasaki's customers don't even know what supercross is, let alone the MXDN.

How many KTM’s do you think were sold because Coldenhoff won both motos at the MXdN last year? I’m guessing very few.

It doesn’t take a business degree to see why Kawasaki has decided not to go and I genuinely feel sorry for those who can’t comprehend that.
Ya see, I think its you who can't comprehend the 'business decision'.

You're thinking short term cash in vs. cash out.

But think long term- Representing your brand and sponsors, capturing the hearts of fans across the world. Selling bikes for generations... You won't sell bikes by leaving them at home in the factory!

Racing a dirt bike on a motocross track vs. racing one on a supercrossy motocross track is barely any different. Not even as different as running vs. cycling.
Furthermore, the riders we are talking about can and should be able to "switch gears" pretty quickly between disciplines. They do it in two weeks between the SX and MX seasons. You don't think November and December are enough time to dial in the SX settings?

In fact, I have raced both. Never professionally, and I can't truly speak to the rigors of either discipline at the pro level. Can you?

What I can attest to is that a supercross track is a wildly different kind of riding which requires a huge amount of commitment, setup changes, and mental adjustment. It took me hours of riding a SX track to get my bike and mind dialed into the right place to race the class I do. I could easily see it taking days for a professional rider and his race team to do the same, maybe even a week or two, even though they have far more resources at their disposal. Beyond that, conscientious teams would continue to test to eke out the 1/10ths here and there. After all, they have a lot riding on their success and want to get it right. But to say that racing one outdoor MX race in September will ruin a factory pro's chances to be ready at A1 in January is a ludicrous excuse.

Kawasaki can decline to race the event all they want, as can Adam and Eli. I'm not trying to force anyone to race. Just don't tell me it's because the bikes and riders can't be ready.
Yes I’ve raced both! The main difference is the speed Outdoors that everything is coming at you as opposed to the technical skill of indoors.

Getting used to going that fast Outdoors takes some guys awhile to get used to

There's no way that this decision comes only from Kawasaki US. If it is, and I'm a Kawasaki HQ (Japan) guy, I'd be royally pissed and give Kawasaki US a slap on their entitled bums and just tell KRT (GP factory Kawasaki) to prepare a bike for Eli and buy him some plane TICKETS to get him there. There's 0% chance that Kawasaki HQ wouldn't make it happen if Eli actually wanted to go. Actually, I'd be really pissed at Eli, possibly their top payed motocross athlete on the planet, too for not going on the single most important race of the year.

No, this is a poor cover-up for either Eli/Adam themselves not wanting to go, or more likely, Kawasaki US forbidding them to go.

Once again, KRT would easily provide bikes for them if Kawasaki HQ told them to do so.

Yeah I'm sure KTM weren't happy that they won the biggest motocross event of the year with tons of people watching. Kawi don't care because they probably aren't going to win anyway, hence why they aren't going. I guess it is a smart business decision to save the two best US riders and their brand from embarrassment though.
I never said they weren't happy, I asked how many KTM's were sold because of that day? I'm guessing not many, if any at all.

If Kawasaki's results, if they sent their riders to the event would be an "embarrassment" (your words, not mine) why do you even care if they go? I'm guessing it's so you have something to run your mouth about afterwards. Which I'm sure you will do either way.

To you and I it's a great event, obviously not to Kawasaki. Get over it.

It doesn’t work that way! Kawasaki would need to have it wrote in their agreements with the US Teams to do it, to make them do it.

Not liking the decision is one thing but claiming to know why the decision was made or by whom is absurd.

I get what you're saying, but for Tomac and AC to foot the bill themselves isn't practical. Yeah those guys have a lot of money, but they'd stand no chance in hell on stock bikes or anything close to stock. They'd need the best of everything including machanics and well..... let's say they spent this major ass money, went there, and got injured. Then what? Their season is ruined in America AND they've left the ones who pay them screwed. Without Kawasaki's support, it's not practice or wise for them to race mxon. I agree that it sucks to not see the very best Americans go up against the very best Europeans, but that's just the way it is because Kawasaki decided what they did. I fully believe AC and Tomac would go if Kawasaki was ok with it.
Proving to be the "best in the world" takes more than one weekend event. It takes a series. I don't think gp elites come to the u.s. looking to prove they're the best in the world. It's about the money and fame. Herlings (when healthy) is probably the fastest outdoor rider in the world, but to make it 100 percent official, he'd have to come beat Tomac in the ama series. I know Herlings is not afraid of the challenge and would love to give it a shot, but his bosses at ktm want him in Europe only, so he complies. That's just how it works.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't saying it was remotely practical, but they could do it if they wanted to prove a point to Kawi. In fairness to stock bikes, wasn't Tommy Searle running a stock engine in last years mxdn and doing quite well?

I like Eli and I like AC, but I just don't fully believe it was Kawi who made the decision. If 2 of the top riders wanted to do something and a brand disagreed, then I can imagine there would be a brand out there willing to oblige them come contract time.

I completely agree that it takes more than just 1 weekend of racing. I also agree with you about Herlings probably the fastest outdoors rider. The only thing I don't like the idea that Herlings should have to ride in America to prove himself the fastest against Eli. Why (money aside) couldn't Eli go to europe?
I doubt if Searl's engine was totally stock, but in a mudder it's not gonna make any difference. It's the suspension and chassis where the biggest difference between a works bike and stock bikes lies. Factory stuff is way better, and in normal weather the horsepower advantage of a works bike would be a factor as well.
You can't put money aside when asking why Tomac won't come to Europe and race the GP's, because that IS the answer to the question. There's less money in it than what he makes here, and this is his home. Why take a huge pay cut and go to a foreign land/tracks you're not use to? Tomac isn't that desperate to prove himself.
In saying that I think Herlings is probably the best outdoor rider in the world, I only mean when he's healthy and in race shape, which is less time than Tomac is. I also believe Tomac is the better rider on hard surfaces. Then there's his supercross skills which are incredible. The overall best and most skilled rider on the planet is Tomac. I just give Herlings the nod in outdoors on more surfaces, and of course only when he's not injured and at peak form.

Mxon is to mxgp what mec is to sx with exception of getting paid.
The USA has less affiliation and attraction to Europe racing.
It seems the European riders want to come here more than we want to go there.

So many people here just dont get it. No races in our country but our riders are expected to go there in their offseason. Im shocked people arent organizing an area 51 style raid of the US Kawasaki headquarters and beating down AC, Eli, Dylan, Marv, and Kennys doors.
