2) You have about 3-4 hours to get medical treatment before it can be life threatening, unless you have an allergic reaction, and in that case, say a prayer.
3) Whatever you do, don't "suck out the poison" - or have a buddy suck it out.
4) Best thing to do is hydrate, hydrate, hydrate and keep your heart rate down as much as possible to minimize pumping the poison throughout your body. The venom will dehydrate you fast as will your anxiety. Just keep drinking water and get to a hospital as soon as possible.
Most people don't die from rattlesnake bites. But the pain is brutal (if you get some venom). I have had 2 buddies get bit, both in the leg. One was hunting the other was hiking. One was a dry bite, the other was not. He was laid up from work for about 6 months. He said the pain was excruciating.
Snakes are one of the few animals that all babies fear.... It is in our dna ....
Edit: after a little research, we are more likely to develop a fear of snakes/spiders, as opposed to any other random object/creature, but it isn't hard wired into our DNA.

These were encountered last night by my brother in North Scottsdale just north of the 101 on Hayden... I told him to run and scream like a little girl!
Pick up the King Snake and check it out... not going to hurt anyone and they will eat the smaller Rattlers too.
Treat all Rattlesnakes with respect and you will be fine and they will let you know if you are too close. We have the Sidewinders in our area and once in a while find one in the yard. They are skittish and are really cool as the rattle and zig zag there way away from you.
One night we went out in the Teryx and saw 15 (that we saw) Sidewinders in the Dez during a 1.5 hr ride.
I have run across a few Mojave Rattlers out MT Biking and they have a short fuse...!
.
15 sidewinders in 1.5 hours?!?!?!
Pit Row
I see them a lot MTB. I've only seen one rattling, it was not happy. Surprising how loud it was.
Never saw a Sidewinder in the wild until we moved to Buckeye 5 years ago.... now I have seen at least 20 of them..! Not very big but really cool to watch them move. 5 in the front yard.
Our area is a sandy base soil. It's a Sidewinder Ranch south of our house... LOL.
Had a baby SW coil up by my foot one evening when I was watering some of the plants in the front yard....
The Mojave was seen in the rocky harder dirt / hills area when MT Biking. Still waiting to see a good 6 foot RS..!
Holy Hell, I've never felt such a large hit of adrenaline in my life. I could've bean Nino Schurter up that hill after that.
I was sitting next to a flat bed trailer and a baby Mojave green slithered his way under the trailer and right underneath my lawn chair. I thought I was about to get bit in the ass. I got up and moved away slowly which pissed it off and my buddy took his head off with a bike ramp once I was out of the way. Those little bastards are no joke.
Mick ran over a Brown Snake and it flung up onto his lap and bit him on the knob.
They pull over and Baz calls Emergency Services.
Baz explains the situation and the operator says, "you have to suck the poison out or he'll be dead in 10 minutes."
Baz get's off the phone and Mick asks him what they said?
Baz replies, "Sorry mate, they said you'll be dead in 10 minutes".
asking for a friend...
Work, moose story..
Most of my crew was French and I’m a “square head” Anglophone.
Most of us got along well, I did tell a guy who came at me with a “big” garter snake saying “won’t hurt you” told him I was gonna f him up here and now, crew worker or not.
Me and one big dude became fast friends. He was pretty huge and always wanted me to lay him (some others were the same) off in September to hit the woods, and live in them, for hunting season. Didn’t usually hang around the crew usually, but he was funny as f and I was up there for over two years.
My crew and I were surveying in northern NB, and we were about a half hour from the truck.
It was misting and then started to rain pretty good. So I said let’s head back to the truck and see what the weather does. All of us except my worker buddy were back at the truck, raining a bit but we are standing outside. 8 of us, two trucks. No Victor for quite a while, but he knew these woods well. Where’s Victor?
Suddenly running down the road was Victor my bud, probably 270 of not in shape belly, pastier than printer paper.
He is yelling “mooth, MOOTH”. Between the whiteness and juggling belly going in my directions at once.....one of the funniest things I have ever seen. A site to behold.
“After I could gain my composure, I said, “should have called Randy Richardson”.
j/k, I said, “Vic Buddy, where is your shirt?”. He said he was up close and personal with a mooth he startled, decided when he was running he could run faster without his shirt, 😂
