Dear Glen Helen...

5/16/2019 6:03am Edited Date/Time 5/16/2019 6:04am
A couple of days ago Glen Helen posted a list of the gnarliest tracks with themselves at the top dated 2016. Not sure if that thread lasted.

Clearly this is a dog at Pala. I’m sure they feel like a staple in the outdoor series and feel as if they were wronged by MX sports. It’s been “their day” for decades. Not the most mature way of handling it but I can certainly understand GH frustration.

You may have actually just persuaded me from buying a ticket to Pala with this post. When you work on other people's stuff all week so they can go ride that weekend, sometimes paying $40-$50 just to get through the gate to watch a bunch of other dudes ride is the last thing one wants to do. Then I see a smug post like this from someone running this site?

Props to Glen Helen for having this, I'll gladly pay more than the $10 donation to support the mentioned charity if I do make it up there and don't have to work. The Saturday that Pala happens to also be hosting the National isn't a sacred date, and other local tracks can still do things. I'd say even starting this thread calling them petty is more petty than anything Glen Helen is doing.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, including you.

My opinion is that the sport’s too small to start raining on each other’s parade, and that it’s ill-timed. That’s all.
Closing in on 20 years since the death of the 125 class, I'd say that the industry doesn't really seem too concerned about growth or the size of the sport. Just my view from a thousand miles away. .

I'll probably do neither option and go ride another track... BOOMSHACKALACKA

A bit petty, but it could be worse. The could be having a big money Pro race with free entries, gate, food, beer, and moto hoes.

I'd go riding over going to watch a National any day of the week.

The folks that run GH clearly approach life with a chip on their shoulder that clouds their judgment about how to handle things like a grownup. It wasn’t too many years ago that, after loosing the National, they approached Youthstream and got themselves a GP. Clearly this was a middle finger towards MXsports. The fact that it backfired and hardly anyone showed up to watch was poetic justice. They probably lost their asses on that deal and the fact that they approached the whole situation from such a cynical position makes me think they deserved it.

Maybe I'm in the minority here ( as I didn't read any replies ).......but if I lived down there , I'd be there in a heart beat! Screw the live national , when I can get home after riding all day , I can watch it later that evening. I do that all summer long anyways. The only way I'm missing a ride day is if I'm over worked ( which I am right now ) or if the weather sucks ( which it does right now ) .

I know there is some animosity between GH and MXsports.......but seriously , who gives a shit? Go ride your brains out on an awesome track all day , then watch the motos when you get home. Who the hell " doesn't " do that?

Exactly; very few of the guys I ride with could rattle off who is currently at the top. Half of them think Dungey is still riding....they're too busy riding vs. spectating. Very few of them even know what Vital MX is...Blink

It always makes me do a doubletake when a business starts essentially blaming their customers for their own shortcomings. I totally get that the sport is small, but the idea that GH is going to cause Pala to suddenly hemorrhage pro national spectators seems like a bit of a stretch.

The fact you have to choose makes neither a winner. Douche move by GH .

I can and do ride moto any day of the week living here. I can only see a national in my area once a year. I love hanging at the track drinking beer, bull shitting with my buddies and watching guys earn thier pay on the track. I could easily go ride GH next week if I wanted to.

Look.....if I had a choice of sitting in traffic for 3 hours to go watch the national , or go ride a charity practice day , where I could basically just drive right in , I'd pick going riding and watching the races on TV later. Washougal can get hectic with traffic as well , but I still go every year. I leave really early and leave there late , so traffic doesn't ever affect me much.

I also wasn't just talking about Pala......I'm speaking about watching all the races on TV here , as I'd rather go ride all day or do something else outside on my day off and then enjoy the races on TV later that evening.

So Milestone, Perris, Cahuilla, Racetown(or whatever they call it these days), Glenn Helen, I5 and all of the other tracks in SoCal should not hold events and shut their doors for the day? I dont think so. I paid $75.00 for the NBC Gold pass. I guess I'm not supporting the sport. They had to have the race somewhere. I don't care for Pala as a venue for a national, but where else could you go? DC ownes the nationals. He can have his race where ever he wants. That said I am not going to lie to people about the bad traffic, the bad parking and the terrible viewing with Pala and Elsinore on on the three they have hosted. I was cheated out of money and had a bad experience. It's a fact. Best of luck to everyone putting on the race and those that want to attend.

I guess the fact every track in SoCal is open on the 25th means it’s only wrong that one track is donating it’s gate fee to a great program called High Hopes and making it available to watch the National makes only them putting up the middle finger to MX Sports.
It’s funny people only see the side they want to make a decision but I guess that’s today’s way.
I know for the sport, Glen Helen Raceway hopes it’s a great success for the riders and fans and everyone else involved. Let’s leave it at that because the race needs no more negative press. Let’s look to the positive things coming. Round 2 of the Lucas MX Nationals at Pala Raceway please go and enjoy.

Every other track is going about business as usual, not promoting a special event on that day. Saying there is no ulterior motive is just a lie.

Glad you have your opinion. Guy maybe your post has caused a lot of negative and positive news for the Pala race and best pull it off it’s not going to change anything either way.
I can say for a fact that the majority of the people posting have no clue about why contracts are negotiated and that both sides don’t always agree just like the trade deal with China. One side does not want to spend as much and the other side wants all they can get. And either way this is the story of contract. Both sides generally can lose something. It’s business let it go.

Before the national was "officially" at Pala we were all about making a weekend of it. So I called to get a room for Friday and Saturday nights. That was when I found out the "Special event" room rates skyrocketed to 700+ bucks for 2 nights Blink . That's when going to the National went out the window for us this year. So now I can ride GH on Saturday, watch the race in the barn, camp overnight and race OTMX on Sunday ? Fuckin done and done. Thanks GH ! Weekend salvaged. You know who else won't be going to Pala ? Anyone who spent hours idling in traffic only to get turned away at the last one. We were going to avoid that by gettings rooms..... oh well A for effort. I'm not cheap but I know when I'm getting hosed, and 350 a night to stay at Pala is getting hosed, and then some. See ya at GH. Cool

ps. I don't care one way or another about the politics involved, I really don't.

making it same day...douche move. calling/making it a fundraiser is an attempt to make criticizing it "off limits" or legitimizing the scheduling of it.

say what you want...the history of them doing this stuff is there...

and whoever said Mr. Info is valued member here?...that comment made me laugh. he comes off as a Glen Helen cheerleader every time he posts here...very rarely posts or contributes to anything other than Glen Helen controversies.

Well no flaggers when you pay to get in, so guessing that would be a big fat no on a day you don't have to pay to get in...

Ha ha. Agree, didn't now about it until it was posted. Well played, sir. Also not everyone who rides goes to the National series. I would rather also go to GH then fight to get in / out of Pala if I still lived in CA. DVR is my friend.

ML your issue is you want to be a big player in the Industry so keep reaching and I hope you get there.
I can say what I want cause I don’t care. I have no ass to kiss and be on someone’s good side. Do You?
Young man I wish you the best playing the games you have to play to fit in.

Answer this one simple question. Why would you not hold a charity event on a day in which most of the moto industry could attend and support, rather than a day in which they are all occupied in the same vicinity?

I’d go to that. Better than sitting in one lane traffic for several hours trying to get into Pala, then being told there’s no more parking and you have to turn around and drive home. That’s what happened to me when Pala held the national.
Ever hear of a map? Numerous ways to get to Pala besides the main route off I-15

Another option is to set a alarm and get moving a little earlier. If you go to any major sporting event and show up right before it starts you are going to be screwed.

Dude, the issue is that GH decides to announce a week and a half before the National that they are doing a free "charity benefit ride" the same day as the National. You really expect people to believe that it wasn't planned as a "fuck you" to MXSports? Come on man. Pull your head out of Glen Helen's ass. I stopped going there long ago for many reasons and this doesn't make me want to go back anytime soon.

Why wouldn't you guys do something like that this Saturday for the opener or the following weekend? The public isn't as stupid as you guys think. I'll tell you, it's a great idea! I'd gladly support it, if it wasn't just being done as a "fuck you." Pretty pathetic of GH.
