When I had an F150 I loaded it in straight and on the driver side. I used a bed extender.

Lol thanks, where on the bike do you attach the tie downs?
I’ve only seen people tie down the handlebars but I’ve always preferred to use the chassi. There very well may be some valid reason more people don’t use this method but it’s always worked great for me and have yet to come up with any downside.

Yep! Best way to do one bike. Doesn't require you pull down hardly at all on the suspension.

Every one worries about the suspension being compressed.. If my springs don't return after a few days compressed or my seals leak.

It was not caused by being compressed for a while. Something else was was wrong. A few inches of compression would not effect the suspension, even it was was compressed for months.

Hook one tie down to the hook that's on the back of the bed and hook the other tie down too the hook closest to your cab in a diagonal direction. I have the same pick up and that is what I found to work best, depending which bike you have you can either attach to your frame or the standard handle bar way

When i use my truck (have a van), i load my bike diagonally and place tie down perpendicular so that the bike and tie downs make an “X” form. Use one tie down from the back and one from the front. Pull em tight, and say “That aint goin no where.” Then get your ass to the track and ride!

I can’t stress how important it is to say “that ain’t going nowhere”. It really is the key to the whole operation
you forgot to grab the rear tire and give it a little shake to confirm it aint going nowhere
Agree with the tire shake and I like to also give the truck a little shimmy going down the driveway for an added security check but no one is aloud to say "that ain't going anywhere", it has failed me so much I look at it as a bad omen.

Amen brother! I would not like my springs pulled down for days, but on a trip to the races it won't hurt anything. As far as the seals, unless you have one already leaking it doesn't hurt them to transport pulled down. If it did, air forks like the PS1s and TAC forks would blow all the time.

They're missing your point lol.. I just bought an f150 with the 5.5 bed and the first time I put a bike in it I said the same thing. I think I did it normal but the drivers side I hooked up in the rear of the bed. Only had a bike in it once when I picked mine up lol
We were just having fun!

If you’re worried about the tailgate being down just hook a tie down to the tailgate and pull it up. I always loaded mine straight behind driver so I could use the rear view mirror. With the tailgate pulled up nothing will fall out.

I have a smaller bed (5.5ft) super crew F150 now and want to switch to loading it diagonal and closing tailgate.

Question for you guys that haul this way, How do I secure bike this way so it doesn’t fall over lol?
I put my bike in diagonally so I can close the tailgate, and use 3 tie downs. Two of them hook to the front of the bed, and the third one hooks to the back for stability.

Why do so many people hook to the footpegs? Those things get sloppy from riding let alone from holding tailgates up or strapping in by them. Go to something solid like the frame or subframe.

Doesnt pull down on the forks, is wedged against the truck basically stands up straight on its own, and is rock solid.

The other side straps to the same point on the frame to the opposite corner of the truck.
Very interesting....has that method been "dirt road" tested yet? Seems like it would fling out without being pulled down...

Theres really no where for it to go. Its been 1000s and 1000s of miles tested, try it out youll be amazed how solid it is. It cant budge in any direction. Key is wedging it with the wheel straight and back wheel against the bed side.

Depends solely on what kinda bike ya got.

if its a Ktm/beta/sherco/gasgas - sideways and both bars to the hooks in the front of bed tailgate will close. also run a fork saver before you tighten it down.

Japneze piece of shit - just toss it in on its side, it wont fall out cause its so damn heavy and don't worry about the scratches cause it will be on its side soon enuff..

Only time I ever did this, but my trailer was full with 3 bikes and I was hauling 4 from Michigan to West Virginia and back this past Christmas. Lookin' rather hillbilly but worked like a charm! No disrespect meant to you (us) hillbillies! Cool
My wife's Grom hardly fits corner to corner in this little Colorado crew cab's box so no way is a full sized bike.

I have a F 150 short bed with a tool box. Usually 2 bikes but when I was soloing it I would leave the tail gate down with the bike in diagonal. But I hate a tail gate extendor. So it worked real well. 3 tie downs actually. Probably overkill but my worst fear is seeing my bike go flipping down The freeway ?

LOL Hell no! There's a ratchet strap from the back of the swingarm to the hitch of the truck.

Been using some fork savers with a couple tie downs on the bottom part of the bars to each corner for years. “That ain’t goin’ anywhere” tested and approved. The only difference is mine also has Velcro straps to hold it to the fork tubes.

My Ram with a 6.5' bed I'd usually haul a fullsize bike and either a 70 or 150, it would fit with the front wheel straight and the back angled slightly to the side, could always still close the tailgate.

My current Raptor has a 5.5' bed, roll the bike in straight and just leave the tailgate down. I also have a Ready Ramp, but don't use it much for the tailgate feature, just use it as a sturdy ramp.

Fords also have the bed extender option from the factory, one more reassurance that it's fine to leave the tailgate down.

Currently have a 5.5 f150 so I'm doing bike corner to corner. Straps with soft loop to the handlebars front corner hook and rear corner hook, use a seal saver but really don't need to. When doing it this way the bike isn't being pulled into the corner so the forks don't compress. Swing the back end over to keep it from rolling back and forth. After reading these posts I'm going to switch corner direction to be able to see out passenger side rear window. Like I do when the bike is in straight.

2 bikes

Usually we take a trailer but sometimes the truck is better if the track is far away and is mostly interstate driving. Trailer kills gas and I prefer not to haul ass pulling a trailer.
