Is the glorification of Ronnie Mac good or bad for the sport?

If I was a new fan of the sport and if I saw Ronnie Mac competing, I would not take the sport seriously. I would rank it right down there with Monster Truck Racing and WWE or some local fairground silly event.

Already there are people who consider all Motocross riding as a redneck, hillbilly sport. I have neighbors who say it all the time.

Exactly. The powers that be in this sport need to take notice that they are being overshadowed by some guy acting like a dumbass.

Anyone complaining about Ronnie must be a PC snowflake. PC snowflakes are ruining America and now Vital. It's a joke people, either you get it or you don't. But for those of us that do get it, please shut up so we can enjoy the Ronnie Mac show!

Thats because it is. You gotta have a bit of a screw loose to ride and most people just arent wired that way.

Take 95% of the American public and show them the Motogp race from phillip island last weekend. That is the most prestigious form of motorcycle racing and anything but redneck. They will watch it for 2 seconds and say "those guys must have a death wish" or " they will die as soon as they fall off". Watching a respectable race will not change these opinions for most people so why not say f it and just have some fun?

I dig it.

By trying to be more presentable and cookie cutter, there’s little personality being shown from riders which is odd to me since most people I’ve ran across on a bike are blue collar with a bit of a unique personality. Ron’s character taps into what a lot of us think is funny and what we might have seen out riding decades ago. It’s refreshing since the sport has become such a predictable machine.

There were some Nascar folks that got mad about Ricky Bobby and Talladega Nights. I thought it was funny as Hell and so is Ronnie Mac.

The real question is, where does he get those lightweight inner tubes?
Dude rips Holeshots with no HS device and we're trying to find ways to dislike him?

Been a fan for a long time, and my son knows it is satire and thinks they are funny also. He has gone out as RM69 for 3 years for Halloween, and last year when they had a costume contest at the BMX track, he showed up like normal, went into a backroom got dressed as Ronnie and found an old POS bike to ride and went out and threw some airwheelies and that shit......funny as hell. And only a couple people knew it was him.

As someone said earlier, it really depends on whether you like clowns or not. Just because some people don't find him in the least bit funny, it doesn't automatically mean he's offensive/damaging to the sport either. His performance is not for me personally. His act comes across as trying to make everyone laugh with all and everything that will possibly stick, and I therefore find it cringey rather than funny - too low-brow and crude. But all that said the majority DO seem to enjoy it and it does seem to work. So whatever floats your boat, and fair play to him.

Where Jimmy absolutely does deserve all the credit in the world is with his riding. His performance on that 98 CR 250 is by far the most entertaining riding on the track and, again for me, the highlight of the event. Phenomenal skill to go as fast as he does on such old technology (of course it's tuned up nicely, but still...). I also think he does some good for the sport there in perhaps encouraging those younger riders with less money and older bikes etc.
A 20 year old bike known mostly for a harsh frame. Incredible performance by that guy.

The "sport" being full of well-rounded mature and professional individuals has brought how many new riders into it? I know I didn't go out and buy my first bike because I thought it was the responsible thing to do.

Some of you must be a real hoot at a party...

Whats bad for the sport is well represented in this post. Seems like we cant unilaterally get behind anything. Try watching 3+ hours of Straight Rythm WITHOUT Ronnie Mac and then tell me if its good for the sport or not.

That event had the worst field ever, it was like watching NFL scrubs during the strike. If it wasnt for Ronnie and the 2 stroke challenge...I would not have been able to watch it as it was I didnt make it to the final, they might as well have put Marvin up against no one.
^^^^^^^^^

Ronnie and the 2-stroke challenge made the event successful and is guaranteed to next year as well. The other two classes were the side show as far as I'm concerned.

When RM first started out I thought it was a funny routine; the hick from the sticks that could really ride a dirt bike. But at this point with his vulgar language and "props", he uses in his videos, he's strictly adults only entertainment in my book. His antics on the broadcast were tame but if any parents/kids decide to view some of his videos online they may be in for a shock. From what he's posted since the race, it doesn't look like he's cleaning things up at all.

I dont mind the character and the humour he brings. But sometimes he goes a little bit too far. So it isnt clear whether it is about riding or other stuff.

Well, if u want this sport to mirror F1, totally serious, Dungey style, drug, booze, fan and fun free, Ronnie is bad.
If you want it to grow again, start getting those Monster Truck and WWE attendance numbers again, Ronnie is good.

You want a Polo meet, that only the upper crust can afford and attend, or caged rasslin' with face paint and masks?

Seems u can't have both....

Ps... In Ronnies case, shouldn't matter what anyone likes, thing is, he kicked everyone's ass but one.
Put that in a pipe and smoke it.

I think he was running a hs device, during the broadcast I seen them set it and a few pics also show the ring on the fork. Either way was impressive

He fitted perfectly with RBSR and added to the event IMO. I could even see him at a SX opening ceremony, some of the Monster flat bill crowd could wear the overalls in the bleachers and wave the number 69 at the cameras during the Mexican wave.

Wouldn’t like to see him at the nationals though and would be embarrassing for the sport at a GP or the Mxdn. The Euro scene really doesn’t have that redneck image to poke fun at, its a respected sport over there so it wouldn’t go down well with the crowd and rightly so.

If you haven't found the stick yet I'd suggest digging a little deeper bro, it's still there somewhere.
