Did this to us at Santa Clara last year. Everyone is so scared of getting blown up or shot that the security ruins the event. I just watch on tv now.

My good buddy had the exact same at Santa Clara last year. Granted his dad is a little kooky at times, but still. They spent a lot of money to fly down there and pay to watch a Supercross race.

With parking a half mile from some of the stadiums, pits a quarter mile away and many tickets well over a hundred bucks each, that's exactly what a lot of people are doing. A lot of the ones who have been going for ages.... Bummer.

Such a bummer, I also quit attending SX a few years back and would attend 3+ With the family as I'm in Ca. I love shooting photos as a hobbie and would always attend and show up early and spend the day shooting but went through all the bullshit "can't bring that camera in" after I'd checked with the stadium several days earlier in person, then the outrageous parking fees. Looked like the stadium was empty. Wonder why??

If I remember correctly it was 45.00 for just regular parking.

HOLY SHIT. I don't ever park in stadium parking anyhow. Just find street parking and walk the half mile or whatever it takes. Gonna be quicker anyways to avoid the cluster of 6000 cars leaving a 2 block radius.

I paid $40 yesterday. It was $30 a year or two ago IIRC. In a couple more years they'll probably be gouging you for $50 and then keep raising it every year. Greedy SOB's.

As for the re entry thing. My group got done with our pit party thing and left the stadium through the re entry gate at 2:30. The gal that handed us our re entry tickets told us to make sure we were back in by 3:00. I also remember there being several signs around the area saying NO re entry after 3:00. They have always had this curfew thing at Oakland. It's a crappy rule for sure. I mean you have to go back through the screening area anyway for re entry, so what is it really hurting.

Took BART roundtrip from Fremont for $8. Re-entered the track from the pits around 3pm with no re-scan. Never had any issues with any of the staff.

Beyond the useless political affiliation BS, I'm really bummed to hear about this for your young son. The only thing I would recommend is to write this to Feld to see if they could make amends for next year. Not sure how they can verify the authenticity, but it would be worth the shot from their end to make things right even though they weren't the ones at fault.

I took my 3 yr old to A1 and he had a great time. We too had reservations about his nap, but he ended up just passing out in my lap for a little bit at opening ceremony.

I'd risk it for almost a full Grant. (I am kind of embarrassed I had to look in my pocket to see who is on the $50 bill Grinning )

So you had a way to get in yet you have to keep posting about how your kid cried himself to sleep? Sounds like Dad dropped the ball, not Feld, Oakland or SX as a sport.

Your kid will be fine. He will see many Supercross races. I actually think you should wait several years to take him back though. I took my son to his first when he was 4 and he doesn't remember anything other than the fact that he was there, he's 26 now. He lost his cool somewhere in the middle of the main as MC and Emig were trading paint. Meanwhile my 4 year old is losing it. That was the 1994 San Jose SX. I didn't take him to anything after that until he was 7 and he loves the fact that he remembers his first outdoor motocross. Much like there's no crying in baseball there's no napping in Supercross. For the record, I think the gray area mentioned above is what creates problems and slows every other process down. No exceptions equals more efficiency. ...and they need as much as they can get. Start adding gray area and now you need more people to manage it. Red light means stop. No reentry passed 3 means, well, you figure it out. I do feel bad you weren't able to reenter but the signs were very obvious and all over the place.

When rules are arbitrary and stupid should we still follow them? Why can't we say, "the rules aren't working to provide a good user experience" and change the rules? It's especially hard when rules are different from venue to venue and enforced differently too. I hope the dude and his s son were able to watch the race.
All rules probably seem arbitrary and stupid. For example, if I pay $40 for my seat, and the guy who is sitting 15 rows in front of me paid $40 for his seat, why can't I take that seat when he runs to the concession stand? It seems rather arbitrary and stupid that we both paid the same amount, yet he gets a reserved seat that's closer to the action.

I feel bad for the OP, but I think anyone who's been to a sporting event knows that there are reentry rules and would at least inquire about them before leaving the stadium. As a father of 4, I don't think that playing the kid card is very persuasive.

It's too bad that they had to miss the event, but the bulk of fault shouldn't be thrown at the stadium or Feld.

He obviously orchestrated the whole thing to save 5 dollars and eat a cheese burger outside of the stadium.

LOL, that is funny as hell!

I can see both sides of this argument, but I have to say if there were huge signs everywhere stating no re-entry after 3 which everyone has pointed out several times, and you dont get back in by 3.....then you rolled the dice and lost. Sorry you missed the race but you are not special, there are reasons for those rules and its not your Stadium. When you own a stadium you can make your own rules. Yeah you payed for the tickets, but that only gives you the right to be on the property according to the rules of the event. You failed to follow the rules and you missed out. I hope you learned something, and I hope you teach your kid too. Pay attention to the rules and procedures and follow them.

Now if you had a real emergency and could not make it back in time, the rules still apply but you could have tried slipping a $20 or two into the gatekeepers hands and maybe you would have got in. Hopefully (doubtful) you carry cash cause your debit card aint gonna work! Sorry you missed the race and I hope this was a learning/growth opportunity for you.

Didn't want to start a new topic about Oakland SX so I will just post this here. Took the family to our first SX and was great even though Oakland is terrible place. The only issue I had was the backpack rule. It looks like some venues allow backpacks and Oakland does not. They do allow the draw string packs though which I thought was odd since some were bigger than my backpack. I do have a couple questions though. I figured to spend some money at the event in shirts or whatever and figured all the teams/manufactures would have stuff for sale. But nothing was for sale at their semis. Is this a Supercross/Monster thing to keep all sales to themselves or is this an Oakland thing? On good news I was given a free lunch for my family of 4 (BUBBA BURGER) from RMATVMC at there tent as long I signed up to win a gift card. Don't know if everyone got this but the lady was super nice. Also maybe the rain kept the pits less busy but my girls got every ones autograph they wanted except Dungy and Moosecan. Even walked up and talked to Anderson and Wilson since know one was at there rig.

There's no doubt it's mostly the stadium controlling parking fees and entry at these events. Parking at Anaheim is $20 and this year there was no time limit on re-entry. Probably the most casual I've seen it in years.
