As already mentioned a couple of times Hawkstone has a savage down hill that makes you worry all lap!!!!
I will look for a photo.

Ha yes I'm with you on hawkstone. I remember my first time there, around 2005, every time I got to the bottom all I could think of was 'oh shit I've got to go round and do that again'.
That first pic I believe is David guaneri (maybe wrong) I remember watching that in complete awe how on earth anyone could ( or even want to) double down that hill.
Edit. Just enlarged the pic and now see it's actually Everts. My bad

The downhill at Echo Valley (far left of the pic) was horrible! Really steep and reeally long you'd gain so much speed by the bottom
but where I've put the yellow line was where my brother hit another guy and he fell onto the other guys back wheel then got sucked into the back of his bike like Tedesco did that time except he had his hips in there and was facing upwards! The guy didn't stop, well couldn't stop till about 3/4 of the way down that hill, they had to take the rear wheel off to get him out.. Only injury he got was a broken pinky finger haha

Yeah that is not a jump you can case !

I was not a big fan of Everts, he won so many titles in front of frenchies, but probs to him, that is technical !

What makes the double step down at Namur even scarier is it came out of a tight left with maybe two bike length run up over wet tree roots, the guys doubling (most of the GP field) had to come out of the turn with full commitment, that's why Everts is front end high, then stamp on the rear brake to land near vertical nose down hard on the brakes into a 90 degree right. The whole track was insane.....
BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!

Mammoth was always gnarly. I remember getting a really good start one moto and bombing my way down the hill only to find myself flipping into the corner at the bottom. Good times lol

Honeylake would get really rough too. I ran over a snake (pretty sure it was a rattlesnake) going down this hill one time.

Hawkstone park. This is the drop off into a long bumpy downhill that sweeps round a left hand bend before it levels out.
You can not roll off this and no matter what happens you are gonna end up right at the bottom on the bike or not.
I will give another shout for Hawkstone , been a long time since I rode there , and they didn,t use the hill too much for non championship races , but initial drop off was very steep , and rest of decent was rough and rutted .

Just slightly off topic , but the opposite side going up was just as bloody steep , and I can remember attending a few " train with wade " camps were Bryan and his ex para mate Jim , would make us run up and down the bastard until we were physically sick .

The track in Cingoli Italy has a few. Old school in PA...Foglesville, Slatington and Freemansburg had big, long and nasty down hills.

Definitely the secret canyon tracks out west might top them all. Railroad canyon and some killer track north of magic mountain.

What about Godzilla down / uphill at Sand Hill Ranch in California 1990's? Also Hollister had a nasty steep downhill in the 90's as well. I only raced in the early 90s so I don't know how or if they changed those tracks.

While I’ve never been to Glen Helen or Carlsbad I don’t see how those hills could be any worse than Unadilla’s "Elevator Shaft" or "The Wall". I moved away so I don’t know if they still use it, but in the 80’s Trans-USA, National, and GP races it was incredibly intimidating.

It was damn near a vertical drop, tight left turn at the bottom, and then right back up it with almost zero run up. Both the down and up side were so steep you could not even think about walking down it.
Yeah they still use it and it may be one of the steepest. Last time I was there I saw people who had to crawl up the path next to it on their hands but it's really short that's why I wouldnt list it as one of the badass downhills. Also you would think it has gnarly breaking bumps but it doesn't because it's so steep you're basically just dragging your back tire the entire descent so it smooths it out in a way.

Banzia and Carlsbad were so fast and that's what made then gnarly, but GH is still gnarler because of its combo of speed and roughness.

After a full day of motos, Mammoth has the gnarliest roughest down hill.

Wow.
That looks steep but if you tilt your head and flatten the angle it looks not so bad. Maybe it's because I frequently ride gnarly trails with steep hills though. I realize not everyone has access to trails like that.

Ah yeah I see what you are saying. Seems a bit more reasonable, It's like an optical illusion when you go back and forth. Still though, with those old school brakes!? Pretty steep.

Yamaha Mtn. and/or Mt. St. Helens at Glen Helen during the 24 hour race. At night, 12+ hours in...it's no freaking joke.

the carlsbad freeway down hill was not knarly in and of itself. if you pinned it, you needed to pay attention. Saddleback was dangerous because of the dust

Phil Larson doubling down Suicide Mountain during a Golden State (or was it a Trans cal) when they ran the Saddleback track backwards. That was the most insane thing I had ever seen at the time, because if he catches his rear wheel on the lip, it would have been a long flight down!

My pick is Hawkstone park, Glen Helen is a walk in the park.

No, I have only walked them.

Hawkstone downhill. Always difficult to find photos that do the hill justice.

And the uphill:

Wow, that has the gravity cavity beat in my book! haha Also, I love this thread, pure moto. We need more gnarly downhills and less 150 foot quads imo.

I see a couple of hills leaning against a tree that look way more treacherous. Wink

The kids around here don't know BANAZI or SUICIDE downs hills from SADDLEBACK or the downhill at CARLSBAD.
Banazi was not difficult you were in the air over all the rough rocky stuff in the middle although the the g out on the bottom was fun on the start.

GNCC, for me easily snowshoe. Was a couple years back and I fell at least twice in one trip down it. It was real narrow, steep, and soft. Only downhill I have dreaded every lap.
I'm sure it's the same one I'm thinking of but it was brand new that year. I went down it on a utility quad on Wednesday and almost rolled from it pitching me sideways. Did it again the first time I went down it Thursday, then after that I figured out a good line down it.

Then that Friday I went down it on a bike doing a helmet cam lap for RacerTV, it pitched me sideways and I highsided into a tree. Good times!

I got my revenge on it though. Barry Hawk and I were at Snowshoe a few weeks ago getting a head start on the layout for this year's track. We actually went UP that hill on utility quads. Not going to lie, it was a bit sketchy!

OMC in Boise has a very very steep and sandy downhill on its summer track, but is only open for pros, if I remember correctly. It's not very long but it gets nasty and most average riders wouldn't even be able to make it down without crashing. I wish I could find a picture.

Omc is pretty wild. I went down it on an open practice one day. Didn't really care to do it again hahaha

I raced two 4 stroke nationals at OMC back in the day, and going down those things for 30 minutes was gnarly.
Did you ever race Fossil Bowl in Clarkia Idaho? I seem to remember a steep short downhill if they ran the track the right way. Sometimes they went up it.

The wall at Unadilla was a steep fucker as I recall as well. We walked up it in 2012 I couldn't believe that actually rode motorcycles up a hill that steep.
