You do realize that the pilot jet blockage is usually thru the center of the jet (like the main jet) NOT the side ports. And what you see is pretty much standard varnish from old gas, the carbs need a good cleaning (carb dip).

Sounds like the water pump impeller seal is bad.
Any idea on how many hours on this bike? When was the top end rebuilt and were everything in spec (clearence). Did anybody port this cylinder?
Do what Paw suggests and besides checking the electrical connections and using electrical grease, also disconnect the kill button and see if that helps.
Check the fuel pump filter (in the fuel tank).
Go to either TRANS WORLD MX or You tube video's on how to mount the device. You will need some time to see what works for you on starts.
Verb did that series last year but they are no longer.
You said you installed the power valve correctly but have you checked to see if they open and close while the engine is running?
The piston is toast, but I would be more concerned about what shape the cylinder is in and then what clearances do you have?
You do know that Dungy doesn't have to win to repeat? And considering how many KTM's and Husky's are in the class if needed they could have a tip over contest.

Sounds like you need to go smaller on the pilot jet then readjust the air screw.
Has the bike been sitting very long? What kind of gas are you using? What do you have the air mixture screw set at?

Check the kill button (disconect) , then all electrical conections

Then inspect the cable for kinks or pinch marks then use a good lube and lube the cable and make sure it moves smoothly thru the entire length of the cable.
