The only reason Ducati and Triumph got into MX because they were fooled, like everyone was, into thinking KTM was making a fortune. Well, as it turned out, KTM was SPENDING a fortune. Not making it. ducati and triumph probably are wondering the same thing the OP asks. Was this the right decision??

Price of gas doesn't matter. They're burning dyed diesel, which is a dollar more per gallon, and burning lots of it. Plus they have to pay someone to operate the equipment, etc. People act like it's cheap to maintain facilities and put on events. It's not.

If $10 is a deciding factor for you sounds like Mx is the wrong sport for you. Tracks have different costs just as you and I do. The average tiller I sell to the bigger tracks cost about $17,000.. Oh yea, that tiller also takes a 120-150 hp tractor which costs 50-90k. At $30 a head and zero other expenses it takes 3100 riders to pay for just those 2 tools. I would say the higher prices also keep away the riff raff away and that’s fine with me. I’ve been to the Punta Gorda Moto Bros probably 30+ times...

You visited the south from California, you hauled at least one bike with you, and $50 is too much money for you to ride 5-6 hours? This is a joke, right?

There is so much to do in US. That view that you have, is part of why the sport isn't getting that much safer quicker. "Nothing to do, we are aware about the risks so why do anything about it". No one would give their kid a car without seatbelts, airbags or abs in today. Neither let them drive under the influence or without driver license. Yet, everybody did it ~50 years ago. Things evolve. Start with mandatory track safety inspections (at change and every other year), and common track design and obstacle guidance. Official area and track managers, divided/setup...

I know this won't be a popular question, but what if the track was actually negligent? Would anyone that lost a child in this manner say, "oh well, it's a dangerous sport". Just because it a dangerous sport and a sport that we love doesn't make negligence ok. Before you flame me, I'm not saying that they were negligent, I'm just saying "What if".

It is simply unacceptable that the race continued for 2 laps while he was down. There was no flagger at a particularly vulnerable section of the track. Not only that, but the parents were given conflicting and contradictory information which led them to believe they were covering their asses and not being forthcoming. What is going to force track operators to think more carefully about flagger placement and perhaps better procedures for halting a race? Did they have good comms? A lawsuit doesn’t necessarily mean the family is trying to get money. Lawsuits can force change. Everyone said something needed...

Were you there? Do you know all the details of what happened? IF it's true that no flaggers were present in the area, and he got run over multiple times when he should have been protected, then yes, I'd be suing the sh1t out of the organizers too. It's a dangerous sport, and poor track operations are often a contributing factor. Having raced Mammoth, one of the first things I saw was it's a tough track to cover and there are a lot of places where speeds are high but access to the track is difficult. Plus getting a seriously...

I've done both certain years, and the majority of the consensus I received was that full of fuel mattered more. I tend to agree as a bike with no fuel in it can't go anywhere. I've also yet to meet a person at the track who measures the amount of fuel they put in a bike to choose the weight...
