Short answer, yes you can, and I’ve done it. But it has to be a viable business with income/loss statements, otherwise they won’t consider it a real business and won’t consider it tax deductible. My buddy did this with a lawn care business for 15 years. He mowed just enough lawns, and doctored up just enough invoices to make it look legit.
