5/21/2020 8:48pm Went from a 79 RM125 to an 83’ 250. The brakes were OK but the engine was great! I put an ‘82 head on it for more compression. Porting by Tony Smith racing.

5/21/2020 8:46pm To me, this bike was one of the greatest of all time. The '81 case reed motor was a rocket when slightly modified. When the '82 came out, the chassis was slightly better (I think it had lost a little weight), but the new reed valve motor was nowhere near as good. The front end was just average, but once you road the Full Floater, you figured out that the magic was all in the rear end, and rode it rear-biased. If it even began to swap, just grabbing a handful of throttle always straightened it out. Yeah, you could...

5/21/2020 8:44pm Had a 87 and 88 kx 250. The 87 was so much of a better bike. Speed ahead to 2015 and I bought a 87 Cr 250 to restore and God I wish I had one when I was 20.

5/21/2020 8:43pm You nailed it. Lined up(on my '87 Honda) against plenty who chose that '87 KX. Always liked the look and sound of those barky KX's...unless I was behind one!
In '88, picked up an '88 KX250 and it took a while to adapt to it from my '87 250 Honda. It was big, powerful, stable, but not nearly as nimble or as good in suspension (particularly the fork, even after a Race Tech re-valve). It felt heavier too. Curious if anyone's weighed an '88 KX250 vs a '87 CR250. Felt 10 pounds heavier than the Honda to me. But...

5/21/2020 8:02pm Not trying to pawn off work either just to clarify, I just wanted to include something more positive. This whole Varner thing has been so stressful and I’ve lost sleep over it I figured I could show something enlightening until my parts show up.

5/21/2020 8:02pm Sorry guys for not getting back sooner, I do Cerakote and motorcycle services on the side for extra cash and it’s been super busy I barely keep up with the Cerakote work right now! So update is he sent me a picture of a box with my address and a tracking number. It’s still in California as far as I know but it’s definitely on its way, well I hope. He was in good contact last week and although kept buying himself time finally got around to shipping my YZ125 and YZ250 cylinders I believe. I know for sure my...

5/21/2020 7:52pm I beleive the OP tried repeatedly to "handle it at the lowest level". Paid in advance and got no communication. It wasn't until some people on Vital that know Varner contacted him and told him about these posts. Suddenly a phone call was returned after many weeks. There is no excuse for treating custome s like this. The Corona virus didnt turn off Varners phones, Facebook, Instagram and email. He just plan out refused to communicate with a good and patient customert.

5/21/2020 7:51pm I can’t stand the hive mentality the internet breeds. Everyone’s quick to talk shit behind the security of a keyboard. You hear a lot more bashing than you do positive feedback. However, I ain’t mad about this guy sharing his experience. He’s not talking shit to talk shit. He’s actively being fucked around by an engine builder. Not saying it’s malicious. Not saying it’s not explainable. But it’s been a piss poor experience to say the least. And it seems like the only reason he’s got any traction at all is because he made this thread. Varner has earned himself...

5/21/2020 7:33pm Full voicemail is a shady construction contractors best friend. When I did sub work, I noticed the venn diagram between crooked/ dishonest contractors and dudes with full voicemails was a perfect circle.
