9/20/2021 7:58pm There isn’t any throttle stop commercially available that I know of. One easy way to limit power is to tape off the airbox. Will not hurt the engine and is easily reversed. First real MX Bike! Remember mine, 76 RM 125. Kicked my butt.

Mx746 Started a new thread Making a 16 crf250x a bit more "R" looking?
9/20/2021 10:35am Not looking to improve power , just want more of an "r" appearance and maybe drop a little unnecessary weight. Just got the bike for my 14yr old novice rider who prefers the "R" styling. Im planning to lose the coolant subtank, kickstand, lights and odometer so far. Any tips appreciated.

9/20/2021 5:12am The supermini sounds like a great idea, but a lowered 125 with shaved seat would be pretty sweet too. What class would she race?

9/20/2021 5:04am I have a 14 yr old novice rider, he's about 5'10 155 and he got bored with a crf230. I just picked up a new to me 16 Crf250x and I'd like to restrict the throttle for a few hours until he has the feel for the bike. Any ideas?

9/18/2021 9:23am I sold my 2015 YZ250FX to a 14 year old that had taken my MSF course. He was riding a DRZ125. I met him and his dad at a local riding area, softened the map as much as possible with a GYTR tuner and watched him ride the bike for 15 minutes. He did just fine and has been enjoying the bike and increasing his skill for a year now.

Mx746 Started a new thread Lock on grip throttle tube compared to stock
9/17/2021 12:42pm Ive got some ODI's on a 20 yz125, I noticed the thickess of the cam surface that the cable rests on is significantly more narrow than stock throttle tubes surface. It hasn't gotten stuck just operating it on the stand but Id rather find lock on grips with a throttle tube exact same width as stock ...anyone else notice this?

9/16/2021 8:19am Yep, regardless of what bar you’re running (assuming it’s oversized and fits the clamps correctly) tighten the front first, then the rear, with the beveled edge facing the rear of the bike.

9/14/2021 5:30pm Follow the Yamaha instructions. You should have no gap on one side that you tighten first, and a gap on the other that you tighten next.

9/14/2021 4:09pm The 125 is the right bike. If they are afraid of it then a 250f is too much. The 125 will bog and gag if they baby it. A 250 f will torque up and go. The 125 is lighter than the 230 as well.

9/14/2021 4:08pm Wayyy different story between a super hard to ride tiddler and a 250f.... 250f feels like a play bike until the higher rpms.... the tiddler dies with low rom, and is full rip every place else.... imo- you probably don't need to do anything to a 250f

9/14/2021 4:07pm My son was the same age but shorter and lighter. He never really took to the YZ125. 125's are not easy to ride for a beginner or coming off a 230. Totally different engine characteristics. He started riding my 250FX when he was 15, guessing about 5' 8", 130 lbs. and it was an unbelievable difference. No tuning necessary. This is a great bike! The power is mellow enough for a beginner We ride off-road, trails, desert, technical.

9/14/2021 4:02pm New to me 20 yz125, (I dont have the paper manual yet, but found an online version) it shows Yam upper bar clamps have one longer leg on the forward bolt location, which Yam says to tighten first, which would leave no gap. Twinwall general install instruction show even gap on front and rear bolt locations...any thoughts?

9/14/2021 8:30am The Yamahas are very tunable, I prefer to get the fueling set and leave it alone. The timing is what I use to get the feeling of a tractor or race bike.

9/14/2021 8:30am There’s some good map threads over on Thumpertalk. I recall one guy running a map that was basically like an xr250 so his wife could ride it.
