I’m looking for a new bike for my wife. Her previous bike was a CRF 150f. She’s getting a little more serious about motocross, she’s 5’3” and doesn’t quite feel comfortable on a full size bike yet, so I’m looking at a supermini. I guess the question is would she be better off on a CRF 150RB, KX 100, or a KTM 105sx. Also she just had our 3rd kid, and she gained about 80 pounds, I figure the Ktm would be a good fit with the air forks to make it easier to adjust the suspension as she gets back down to pre baby weight.

I vote CRF150R, with zero experience with that bike. Just seems like the perfect option to me. Also, I've been day drinking, soooooo.

That’s the other option I’m thinking about. I could throw a Kobua link on it and let her ride. She’s ridden my Yz450f around our yard, and she likes the electric start, but dosnt feel confident about being able to get going again after a tip over. The lowering link and E start could negate those issues, and the suspension and power would be easier for her.

It jus the height of the bike, not really the power. She just wants to be able to get both feet on the ground.

Super minis are awesome and she is the perfect size for one. Any of them will do. The TM is probably the highest performing. The new kx112 may be the easiest to live with. Send the suspension to FC or someone to get it setup and rock on. My wife has had a tricked out kx100 for 15+yrs. she loves it and I certainly don’t mind taking it for a spin either Smile . I’m 185lbs and 5’10” and it hauls me around pretty well.

What type of riding ? Track or trail ? My grown daughters are 5’ and 5’1” , and they are both on lowered crf250x’s with short seats as well for riding off-road. They had big wheel kx100’s , but were held back by the small wheel diameters.

There was a lady, fairly short like your wife, ripping a 105sx around recently at a track over here, looked a good fit and wheel size aside probably as good as a dude on a 125 with power/weight?

My GF is a little taller, she got a 150sx after having barely ridden a bicycle, we trimmed a little off the seat, probably 3/4" and followed the original shape so it didn't look shit, and lowered it just slightly and she's loving it.

The supermini sounds like a great idea, but a lowered 125 with shaved seat would be pretty sweet too. What class would she race?

KTM 125xc. Electric start, air forks, and lots of lowering options.

I have made the mistake twice with my kids buying and building supermini offroad bikes.

Both when they hit 5ft2-5ft3 I debated if I should have gone for full-size bikes. Bought the supermini, went the tall seat, high bars, low peg route twice. Bikes were physically still too small and nervous behavior on the trails due to the wheel size and short wheelbase.

Bought 150's for them.

Lowered my daughter's bike 30mm internally front and rear, plus the 20mm lower seat and she can put both feet down (not flat - but not far off) and she is 5ft4 / 5ft5.

Son's bike is standard height.

I would buy either a 150 TE/XCW or 125xc. Both can be lowered very easily and will be a much more comfortable and safer bike to ride.

Not the CRF150R. I had the big wheel version (adult but short) and the jetting was too temperamental for me. Hard to start too.

Along with the X-Trainer I would recommend looking into the Beta 200RR. Great power on the bottom and top end, easy to ride not being peaky like a 125 and still much lighter then all the 250f's. Plus a hidden benefit of Beta's is most of their bikes have 1 inch or more lower seat heights then other brand. The combo of lighter weight and lower seat height help out a ton for shorter riders and those with less experience.

The kickstand, headlight and taillight probably fool most however the 200RR is a great bike for new riders and still is a legit weapon on the race track both woods and moto.

I completely misunderstood. I read the thread title and said to myself "Seems like a good trade to me."

Sorry, I can't believe you wrote she had gained 80 pounds, if I had written that I,d be looking over my shoulder till the end of days!
Anyway, my vote is an older CRF250x.

My wife (5'1") has a CRF150RB and loves it. She started on a ttr 125 and quickly moved to the CRF. We recently bought her a ktm 125 but she could not come to terms with the 2 stroke riding style and went back to the 150. She's a torque rider and hardly ever revs. We have had the bike for 6 years and it's been perfect for her riding needs and super reliable.
