Lowlander Added a reply to How long were motos when you were a kid
5/3/2026 4:33pm Scotland / Northern England in the mid 80's through to late 90's. Kids raced on Saturday, adults raced on Sunday. Laptimes at most tracks were arount 1.45 to low 2's. Gates were always full and sometimes running second row starts, and a few additional classes to get everybody on the line. Autos were always run on a separate small track...

Lowlander Added a reply to 1985 Honda CR80 Build
2/27/2026 4:32pm That is a work of art. Got some questions. Rims and pipe. Just about to embark on an 85 CR80 project and looking for a fresh pipe and the classic factory honda gold wheels from the mid 80's. Having no luck what so ever finding them.

10/29/2025 7:31pm After almost 4 years of owning this bike & it still not being finished, I'm back on it & hoping to have it built back up for Christmas ! One last little bit of repair work to do on the subframe and then the frame will be painted. Carb needs rebuild when the kit arrives, bar that maybe a few little bolts to buy & I think that's the parts sorted. I've just rebuilt the calipers, both master cylinders this last week. More pictures to follow once I start building it back up.

Lowlander Added a reply to What 250F for beginner
8/31/2025 3:46pm If I were starting with a new bike. I'd be looking at a few aspects, especially when reading bike tests. From a riding standpoint. Handling and suspension. The 2 best things a beginner can get right to start with. From a purchasing standpoint. Pick a preferred colour if you're not too fussy about what bike, as they are all very...
Lowlander Added a reply to Dads....No Time To Ride?
8/19/2025 3:35pm The air cooled bikes are fun. If your wanting a bike that can go slow but still have fun. Look at a small bore 2 stroke xc-w bike and stick a radiator fan on it. Can be run around at a few mph all day with the kids, is fast enough to enjoy when on your own and has suspension...
Lowlander Added a reply to Riding a bike you can’t get parts for
8/4/2025 3:45pm With all old cars and bikes, you have to decide what to do with them. Some bikes or cars will go up in value dramatically, others do not and are not worth babying. If it's a run-of-the-mill bike, use it the way it was intended and retire it when the time to repair it comes and is completely uneconomical. I...
Lowlander Added a reply to It’s time to slow bikes down
6/30/2025 12:26am There are a few easy solutions to slow the bikes down. That doesn't cost much to the manufacturers. 1. Sound limits - Drastically reduce the db's and set the test limits to a much higher rpm/throttle position 2. Introduce RPM limitations - drop 2000 rpms from the 250 current peaks of around 14,000 and reduce the 450's to 10500 and...
Lowlander Added a reply to CR250/500 Collector Values in 5-10yrs
4/29/2024 11:11pm I would like to think that post-Covid collecters madness will be the prices realised in 5-10 years. Some bikes went up 100% here in Australia (typically steel frame CRs). Like said up a little. The bubble has burst by say 20-25%. But it won't drop much further than that. People who have overpaid will not sell on the market unless...

3/17/2024 6:22pm KR was the first to use that technique and Jett picked up on it. Ken bailed on it after it got rough. It worked for Jett this time, I’m not sure if he should have dialed it down in the 3rd race, but that can lead to errors too

Lowlander Added a reply to 125 vs. 150 For Vet Rider
8/17/2023 4:15am The gearing on a 150 is where the magic happens. It can pull a lot longer by going down 1 or 2 teeth in the rear. engine wise, a good pipe and silencer. A 5.5 slide and clean jetting helps dramatically also. makes it run a lot longer up top with a much beefier mid range and low end torque...
Lowlander Added a reply to How can Bennick race pro sport classes at LL having scored 54 points?
7/29/2023 2:14am From an outsider looking in. I see it as a great opportunity. Almost a pro am card where you can dip your feet in the pro class, finish off your amateur career before going full time. or if you don’t quite make the grade at pro level you can still race for national titles at the level you either are...

2/5/2023 1:50pm Didn’t see it posted, but for once they busted out a real quad at Houston. I know there was a huge thread debating what a quad was, didn’t see any mention of the real one last night. I’m surprised Ricky didn’t call it something else since they call a single table single a quad. He probably said it barely looked like they were trying when they jumped it though.

Lowlander Added a reply to !!!!!!2 BIKES STOLEN in CT
1/4/2023 10:47pm sorry to hear this mate. Such a common thing to see across the world now. Easy to steal and easy to move on. Unfortunately, if they want it they will generally get it. However, I do recommend spending 5 mins removing the front wheel and forks as well as a good lock/chain combo through the frame. Making it hard to...

1/4/2023 4:29pm Traded the 450 in and went back to a two stroke for the first time in 15 years. At (almost) 48 years young, I finally decided that while I'm probably faster racing on a 4 stroke, I will have more fun on a 2 stroke...if I finish a couple spots further back, who really cares? Let the build begin!
