You don’t remember those odd races on Kawi where Tomac looked like a mere mortal all of a sudden? It came out after he went to Yami, that it was usually because the setup was off and he got arm pump. Those races happened semi- regularly and cost him championships.

I absolutely love stew and love his insight, but at times he seems like he is talking for the sake of talking. Or maybe I just don’t get it.. I do think James sees things we can’t, Chase is just a very unique rider and definitely more picky than most when it comes to setup.

It's probably because he has his own genius thoughts but has a challenging time conveying them through speech.

Honestly, it's probably the same problem Prado had. Chase will just deal with it better. And how can you compare Chases Kawi setup to Eli's KTM?

He’s 18 points out of the lead. He’s one of 5 riders that’ve won this year….so far. 11 races left to go (65% of the racing left to go). Man, maybe it’s just me…but…the whole “Panic Button” thing seems silly.

They probably did start on a stock bike to build a base, he was probably pretty happy with the setting they came into A1 with, but you never truly know where you are until you go racing. The night show at A1 was a bit of a disaster and they panicked and made massive changes. I think the pre season races are crucial. Sexton has never really done them, but I think if he had done a couple this year he may have had a bit more confidence in his set up to stick with it and not just throw...

I feel too many people are ignoring Chase's early success on the Kawasaki with qualifying on top at least once and a win at A2. It's easy for people to say the Kawasaki sucks when it's not on the podium, but let's be honest, they only have one star rider out there in the 450 mains that is capable to be on the podium. Chase is under a microscope at this point and I couldn't imagine the pressure he is under to perform, and this might be the bigger part of the problem.

Go back and look at his first season of SX on the Honda 450. Wasn’t much winning going on. I believe he finished 12th in points.

I think there’s lessons to be learned on both sides. From Sexton’s perspective, this is going on 6 years now where he’s been chasing a perfect set up and he’s never managed to find it, so that should probably indicate to him that he’s probably never going to find what he’s looking for in that regard. Interesting. I definitely see where you're coming from, and do agree that the timetable of finding success with that team is past this year alone if it comes. If Chase has incompatibility with that many bikes and Kawasaki only fits a certain type of rider I think that says something about both of them right now that might be worth examining lol. Kawi is going to be the great test and career defining team for Chase, which will be interesting because something was awry with Chase and Kawasaki on individual levels long before they started working together. Roczen and Chase handed off HRC (and all their data) to the Lawrence brothers who probably sharpened it and used it to make great bikes, albeit not without intermittent issues (usually just beginning of season setup stuff). He won his third race ever on the bike. The bike has proven to be capable. Even with an obvious lack of comfort adapting to different track conditions on a new bike (which has been going on throughout his career) I’d say he’s doing ok. For all the talk of the KTM being vastly superior, there is only one KTM (or Husqvarna) that is ahead of Chase in the points, and the rider is one that gets mentioned as a potential for the Mount Rushmore of the sport. Everyone knows it's not easy to win year one of their contracts. However, the elite riders throughout history have done it many times. RC - Honda and Suzuki, JS7 - Yamaha, Tomac - Yamaha, Dungey - KTM*. The issue with Chase is that he has the speed of the legends and has so many of the intangibles too. Hard to believe you're putting that out there. In the past four #1 riders they've signed that rode the 450 class, Three of those four won mutltiple chamionships. Stewart, Villopoto, and Tomac!! The ONLY season they have had since Stewart with their #1 rider not winning multiple championships is Prado! Literally, that's it. Ane he left after one season and breaking a contract. The orange bike has also lost all 5 races so far. It was also beat by a yellow Japanese design that is old enough to drink in most states. The orange bike has also removed one rider from competition and attempted to remove 2 more.

If the factory Kawi "sucked" how did they win a race this season? Last night was a tricky track. Chase didn't push and he kept the bike upright. Not a great result but he remained unscathed. Chase is in an untenable situation. Play it safe and keep the season in mind. Push and potentially crash out. The pitchforks come out in either situation.

This is the start. Year one is the start for years two and three when they will be in championship mode. That’s how it works.
