Been riding with earplugs forever (starting from screaming inline fours) but too many rock shows and festivals in my youth got me tinnitus anyway. As others have said, earplugs will shed so much more noise than any quieter helmet could (and for much less). In my experience foam earplugs (orange 3M for the win) are the best at attenuating sound for everyday use but they suck for riding. Try a couple of earplugs designed for riding, they fit much better under the helmet, they use filters so don't block your ear and all sounds as much as foam, you can...

Problem with talking to any dealer, even a mom and pop type shop, is you are needing specific results from actual wearing of multiple helmets back to back. Unless the individual behind the counter has personally worn all the helmets (incredibly doubtful) you are getting the same anecdotal responses there as you are here. I've been behind the parts counter in a shop before, and even then I would only wear the helmets we carried for quick spins around the block. Been on Wellbutrin and lexapro for about a couple years and it has been a game changer for my mood stability and OCD racing/ intrusive thoughts and panic attacks. I tried it, and it did NOT agree with me. Increased anxiety, insomnia, paranoia, etc. Meds have never really affected me much, but the side effects were very real with that for me. Side effects ceased as soon as I stopped taking it. Wife also tried it, very similar story.

First off, its great to know there are people in the moto community especially men that are honest about anxiety. This is an I interesting one that I'd love to discuss with you. A little drunk currently but I have had experiences with this that are possible what you're going through.

I just got off it after a few years. 1 it made my blood pressure noticably higher. 2. It made me feel like I had no emotions generally or just feel very “blah” all the time aside from daily anxiety 3. Per my doc Wellbutrin actually makes my anxiety worse. One thing I’ve taken for anxiety that I found actually helped was a beta blocker. You just take them as needed (when you feel anxious) vs all of the time.
