Unless you are really into MTB I don't think most people realize how absolutely insane the speed and commitment needed to go that fast at a World Cup level DH is. World Cup XC is equally gnarly but in a different way, no way a pro in any other sport is coming and qualifying for a world Cup final without commitment to only that. Moto pros would do good at a local XC race though. Downhill racing is probably 20 years behind moto as far as evolution and is now extremely competitive and specialized. Think of like the McGrath era...

The transfer to road cycle racing would be close to impossible. That would require a significant increase in on bike training, a full change in body shape/size and racing well in a pack like that takes YEARS to get right... let alone excel at it. DH is also quite specific as it's the highest end of speed... I'd consider a moto guys most transferable possibility to bikes would be Enduro. A solid base fitness, capable of multi-days and great bike skills and speeds tamed back a little to something manageable over a that time. I'd be willing to bet give...

I meant next career as a clickbait joke. No I cant see that either... However, I've been racing/riding DH/Road?Enduro now for well over 20 years. We have like 2-3 high level motocross races in my area that dabble in bikes as well. Funny thing is when they show up to race or ride, they always either win or hit top steps... This includes road races, against formidable cycling/mtb athletes too I might add. I think with these pro moto guys, the bike skills are so high, and fitness so strong. I wouldnt be suprised at all if given some seat...

The pro moto guys could transfer some of their skills over to MTB, but it's an entirely different beast. Their pros would beat our guys as badly as our guys would wax them at a motocross track. I bet Barcia could make the transition and not embarrass himself completely, though.

Career as in racing? like Pro? Just watch a Nino Schurter XC race video or Amaury Pierron race DH and get back to us on that. But hey, he loves bikes which is awesome and maybe some local elite racing is in order. It was a display bike (aka, Wilson Todd's bike with Deano's graphics on it) His race bike had standard graphics on it, the holographic one sitting next to it for display purposes is the one your see in those photos.

You had me until the "kids nowadays" thing. I can acknowledge generations change, but I know of a few kids doing the same thing "nowadays." You don't have to backhand the current generation to give props to the last.

Not really a fan but mad respect. I raced him on 65s and 85s up in district 34. His parents spent every penny in their bank account to get him to the races. His bikes were duct taped together, they slept in a completely rusted out junk van. The guys an all American success story. Kids now a days wouldn’t make it a second in his shoes. carry on…
