Says it does not affect MX, but insurers being what they are.

I saw that on Twitter a couple hours ago. Huge loss to motorcycling. Hope they can find a solution ASAP
That sucks. I am somewhat surprised that they still run true road races like that. They’re awesome but with the way this world is going there’s gotta be Karens lined up to shit them down.
I am guessing that they will try to kill MX and sports like it by allowing health insurances to exclude it from coverage.
Self insure.sign waivers releasing liability… f… the Insurance companies…

No insurance here in the south of Ireland for Motocross atm . No tracks open. Looking bad to start racing in march or at all this year
It doesn't affect MX in the north. But it does affect MX in the south
depends on the countries laws, most places don't let you sign your way out of legal responsibility like the USA does,
Possibility, but, sure there's legal requirements for promoters regarding other aspects of the event. Spectator is injured or killed, property damage etc etc.
In the article about this crisis, Trials was mentioned as well as Real Roads Racing. Perhaps a lot of their Trials events require Road use ( and, many Enduros generally do - that's the case here in OZ, and most other countries)?
As, from what I've read over some time, a major part of the Insurance problem relates to Road Usage , and the danger to Spectators, and, Home and Business damage possibilities, as well as Competitors . There's so much more 'risk exposure' when it comes to Real Roads Racing, than Closed Circuit Racing of any type.
I've been lucky enough to get to Eire many times over the years, all centered around Real Roads Racing. I don't think most here would know just how Big the sport is in Ireland - this insurance situation is dire for the sport, coming after these last few years of turmoil.
I so hope this can be resolved - to lose the sport of Real Roads Racing in Ireland, would be a dreadful thing.
The main issue is that when you have bikes doing 200mph on public roads, anyone within 100yards is at risk.
And because most of these races are impossible to charge for entry, there is no way to recoup the costs.
They want £400k to cover it, in today's society, i dont believe that is a stupid number, seeing as one instance could cost that.
I’m actually surprised that the insurance companies have any claims at all. This is truly the last bloodsport in the civilized world. All the participants know this going in. I mean seriously, what other major sporting event anywhere in the world has multiple guaranteed fatalities every year? I have to imagine that spectators being struck by 200mph flying bikes and bodies are what led to this, and there is no way to effectively get them all to sign a waiver.
Unfortunately waivers are not iron clad. How many mx tracks have been shut down because the were sued? Everything works great until lawyers get involved.
Last years Northwest 200 ran smoothly finishing on time with no major events. Sadly not always the case. We didn’t feel safe in the video,(will upload later need to convert to jpeg
) and moved to the golf course near York corner 200 yards back from the road. Pet friendly
This is going to be an unpopular opinion with some, but as soon as you abdicate your personal responsibility and hand it over to the government, they get to set the terms of what activities are acceptable and which ones aren't. The amazing thing about public healthcare is that you have these absolutely grotesque fatties with Type II diabetes and a host of other health issues because of their eating habits, but no one blinks an eye at the massive burden they are on healthcare. I'd way rather go out in a violent crash than have the life slowly seep out of me through one health crisis after another of my own making....
Speaking of which, I was actually on this trail when this poor sod went off: Motorcyclist falls from Southern Utah cliff, rescuers dispatched via Apple watch – St George News (stgeorgeutah.com)
That can be a recipe for losing everything. Even a sound waiver does not insulate from defense costs, and the insurers duty to defend often is more valuable than rights to indemnity.
It also varies by state in the US (California actually has good law on assumption of risk and waivers). And people often don't draft effective waivers, or nullify them by how they operate.
Damn that sounds exciting and dangerous. Just what draws some of us to motorcycles.
I hope they don’t go after other venues but I suspect they will. Isle of Man?
Really disappointed in this decision. I follow road racing more than I follow dirtbike racing. They have tried to stop road racing for years I didn't think they'd be priced out of insurance though. Losing some real historical races. So what if people die, that's what motorsport use to be like. Make a mistake and your dead. The road circuits in Ireland and the Isle of Man are the last homage to where tarmac racing came from, massive closed off road circuits. Build up to TT this year is going to be shit. Also all that money wasted by the teams getting ready for this season. I'm absolutely gutted. I've been wear my north west 200 hat all week

I was just being rebellious…. I worked in the Insurance industry for 25 years……enjoy your golf Ireland…
Nothing new to the mx world. Insurance has been killing off mx parks for years. Blame it on those who can't accept risk and responsibility for their own actions. Sure, some level of insurance is required....but not stupidity. You stand along side a road where bikes are passing by at 100+ MPH...you've put yourself at risk. Riding/racing....obviously, you need to understand and accept the risks.
Look for more closings as time passes.
Those wonderful 60-80hp e-motox bikes....going to be a whole new assload of injuries/deaths...and you guessed it. More lawsuits, more closures.
I know plenty of people who say the same about motocross as they do about road racing. Y'all think electric bikes will save the sport, when all it'll do is make the snaps of broken bones audible. Everyone needs to get behind the road racing lads, because it'll be us next.
The US doesn’t really either. Track owners constantly get sued despite waivers being signed. They’re better than nothing, don’t get me wrong, but the whole culture of “I got hurt, somebody owes me millions” is the problem that isn’t getting any better. If anything, it is only getting worse.
I knew people died at Isle of Mann. I didn’t know 6 died last year alone.
Go Fund Me link for anyone who wants to support one of the last true forms of racing. Even $5 will go a long way in ensuring these events take place. This is organized by the MCUI (governing body). Anything helps! Let's do this https://www.gofundme.com/f/mcuiucinsurance-shortfall-for-racing-in-2023…
I think it averages 3 deaths a year. The guys who race Isle of Man are insane. I'm scared just watching the gopro footage.
Wait, does this affect the Isle of Man TT?
Yeah that does suck, but I can understand the business decision of the insurance companies. I don’t like it but understand.
The Isle of Man however is not your average road race! They also mentioned Joey Dunlop, that legend was not adverse to risky behaviour….
No, the TT is government run and has its own insurance policy. However if Irish Road Racing dries up then there is no feeder path for TT riders...
