Max HR is purely genetic. If someone is at 170 and another at 210 doesn't tell you shit. They could both be at 80 or 90% of their generic max heart rate. That's why it was so useless when they decided to show heart rates in SX a few years ago. Just confusing trying to explain one rider is not in as bad shape compare to another just because his HR is higher at the same time.

This unfortunate situation is something out of everyone’s control. When there’s lightning, there’s no racing. Period. This isn’t unusual or unheard of in professional sports. Baseball and football games are sometimes called due to weather and played on entirely different days - even playoff games. But the game is eventually completed. SMX is a fucking joke

It wasn’t considered too dangerous to ride after the rain. The race has to be suspended if lightening is within a certain amount of miles. That’s not FELD, AMA or anyone having absolutely anything to do with racing making that decision. That’s the policy for literally every single stadium in the country (which is a requirement through their insurance companies). Literally any event taking place at that venue would have been suspended due to the lightening. I don’t like that there was only one moto per class either. Just going to state the obvious and take the heat for it..... but this is why you don't rush back from a concussion in a sport that requires extreme focus and precision and where being even slightly off can have catastrophic consequences. Not a great idea for a football player either but there's not an extensive list of football players who have died or been paralyzed playing the game.

I remember when my kids were young and something like weather interfered with something they wanted and they would have a meltdown.
