alien Added a reply to 1978-1980 CR250 Red Rocket kick Starters!!

As I was reading through this post I was wondering what all the fuss is about . Ask yourself, what makes a factory bike so trick? Is it the parts made of exotic materials or the hours it took to make them? To me a works bike is special due to the fact it was built to be raced by...

OK Hillbilly is that when you started racing wearing the blue lifejacket ? If you fell into that 55 gallon barrel of oil you would just float back to the top. Saftey has no quiting time. Now to be serious there is nothing better than the ability to valve your own suspension, no shipping back and forth and no down...

I was at the last millcreek race and 48 riders seems about right. Now this was a make up race for one that was rained out, and it did run against the muddy creek top gun showdown. I have to praise the promoter, knowing he was losing money the track was still prepped to perfection and they watered all day...

It looked like once again the track defeated our riders. This track wasn't a one off sand track that only a few can master , it was a super rough version of our tracks in the USA. If we care about this event and would like to win in the future the promoters of our outdoor series need to take...

That bike looks like the '85 RC 250. I think all 250 class bikes and sx 250 class used white back grounds. If that is a 1985 it must be Jonny O's SX bike since he was SX champ in 1984. I think that is the greatest bike of all time we are just now catching up to it with...

alien Added a reply to Rider's union a no no ?

Anyone remeber James Eikel ? He tried to organize the riders in the early 90's and was swiftly shut down. I seem to recall he fought it for a while but eventually gave up . Others may know more about his case than I do but he didn't have any luck with a riders union.

Joe the 125 is looking really great. It's nice to see all the parts come together at last. I was curious how you were going to seal the finned cap to the head and make it leakproof? In all your research on this bike did anyone mention if FOX ever watercooled a 250? I know there would be no performance...

Sweet looking tanks. Thank you Joe for your hard work. My 78 rm 250 isn't worthy of a tank like that. I bought the bike off a friends Dad, he was the orignal owner. It had been sitting in an old building behind his house unridden since 1980. The sun had done it's usual damage to the plastic and rubber...

The milling portion of this head is being done with a mazak 410 A milling center. The machine is not that big but the new nexus controller is super easy and fast to program making it perfect for one off jobs like this.

alien Added a reply to For you "machinist types"

I'm happy to see all the intrest in machining trick parts. The true hand built works bikes of the 70's to mid 80's were real eye candy to a machinist. In the vintage years a cheap conversaional CNC machine wasn't to be found in the back shop of every aftermarket product company so cool stuff like machined triple clamps, linkages...
I have a question for newmann about the water cooled head project. If you get the head machined and everything what are you going to use as the radiator? Can it be made from scratch or do you plan to alter something else? I always wanted to do a project like this but i am just too lazy. Good luck...

alien Added a reply to How Cagiva WMX 500 was like

It's funny you bring up the cagiva team out of florida. I remember in the late eighties( not sure of the year) McElroy and maybe Kevin Foley raced the 250's in the national at gatorback. Then later that year they came as a team (all on cagivas) to loretta lynns in a school bus. They all slept in the bus...

Im happy to see Eric Gorr get some press in these 4 stroke days. He builds some great big bore kits but his fame was built with the two stroke engine. Living in the midwest he didn't get the high profile treatment of the west coast tuners , yet his knowledge and talent are equal to the best in the...
