Nope. Johnny Borders was a Sprite factory rider for awhile too. But that ain't him either. The dude's initials were GB and he was from Ireland.

Mr. Bowden was the first guy I ever met from outside NC. He was still fast in the mid '70s. Imagine the culture shock to me of his accent! I couldn't understand half of what he said but I couldn't quit listening. He had a very tidy style. Feet up most all the time. I remember one race at Elkin, NC, my buddy Keith Smith ran over him to take the win. Mr. Bowden was a pretty big guy, I thought he might take exception to Keffus. Instead, he was a gentleman and, a sportsman. He designed the first Silver Creek track in Morganton, NC. It was super cool back then. Interesting cat Mr. Bowden. Thanks for the memories Winn!

I think there was a Gordon Bowden in the Palmetto Georgia area near Holiday Downs who sold riding gear at his clothing store. Not the same guy Winn is talking about though.

Hi Guys Thanks for the kind words , still riding and having more fun ( I now ride trials on a Montesa 4rt ) live in York SC ,still remember Elgin NC back in 71 was ask to teach a school in the Snow and remember how everyone thought that it was awsome that I could do a wheelie in the snow covered field . (easy when you come from Ireland) Cheers Gordon Bowden

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm curious.

wreckitrandy or GeeMan
Either one of you remember a track around 1971-73 timeframe that was close to the NC and SC border in the area of Boiling Springs, NC or Gaffney, SC?
My uncle used to take me to a track in that area when we lived in Spartanburg and he remembers well known riders such as DiStefano and Bailey racing there. I recall going to a track and watching but I was too young to remember any details.

He's getting up in years and always talks about going there.
