Beginning of a project. It's good to share an interest with people who have "the good stuff"! Hopefully the finished product weighs a LOT less than the 50 lb. chunk of billet it started life as. Sure would hate for my trick as shit bike to break the scales like the current crop of highly desired modern 4 jokes.

Then somedays the planets align and you stumble across the ad in a place you wouldn't normally look and low and behold there lays the holy grail of vintage suspension components. A gold anodized DG aluminum arm for the 76-78 CR125 Honda, a complete set of 38mm 12 inch travel Simon's forks, triples, stem and hardware, brake stay arm and two axles, and last but most definitely not least a complete set of 44mm Fox Forx, triples and axle with the brake drum lug still intact for the 78-80 Hondas. Merry F'n X-Mas to me!!! I refuse to even mention the price, because it was actually reasonable. Don't bother looking at the stock XR front end on the right.

Moto X Fox watercooled head for the 77 RM125. Similar to this one for the early Elsinore. Fox only made two of these things and I was lucky enough to get my hands on one to properly replicate.

I have always thought that backing plates needed fins Joe. Good idea for a project.

Fellow machinist here, What are you milling this beauty with? I have 4 matsuuras all over 20 years old and all operate like new, I cant say enough good things about them.
Keep up the good work, looks great!

I couldn't machine my way out of a wet paper bag. That's why I have my two best guys working on this project! LOL I have no clue as to exactly what they are using. And if I knew , I'd explain it all wrong. I purchased a 3 in 1 Smithy a few years back to make misc. small brackets, bushings and such but haven't finished my home shop. It's sitting under a sheet in the corner along with my watercooled tig welder. Keep getting sidetracked and can't seem to ever finish the shop. I do want to learn some basic machining and good quality welding. It's really a pain in the ass to find a local machinist to do a simple small job or someone to weld aluminum where it doesn't look like something my cat left in the litter box.

My dad had one made for my brothers 1980 rm100 back in the day, it was the trickest bike at our tracks back then. Then he barrowed it to a guy that made it to LL and never seen it again.

The milling portion of this head is being done with a mazak 410 A milling center.
The machine is not that big but the new nexus controller is super easy and fast to program making it perfect for one off jobs like this.
